Coherent States for Isospectral Hamiltonians
We show that for the strictly isospectral Hamiltonians, the corresponding
coherent states are related by a unitary transformation. As an illustration, we
discuss, the example of strictly isospectral one-dimensional harmonic
oscillator Hamiltonians and the associated coherent states.Comment: RevTeX, 9 pages, no figure
More cat than cute? Interpretable Prediction of Adjective-Noun Pairs
The increasing availability of affect-rich multimedia resources has bolstered
interest in understanding sentiment and emotions in and from visual content.
Adjective-noun pairs (ANP) are a popular mid-level semantic construct for
capturing affect via visually detectable concepts such as "cute dog" or
"beautiful landscape". Current state-of-the-art methods approach ANP prediction
by considering each of these compound concepts as individual tokens, ignoring
the underlying relationships in ANPs. This work aims at disentangling the
contributions of the `adjectives' and `nouns' in the visual prediction of ANPs.
Two specialised classifiers, one trained for detecting adjectives and another
for nouns, are fused to predict 553 different ANPs. The resulting ANP
prediction model is more interpretable as it allows us to study contributions
of the adjective and noun components. Source code and models are available at

A case of atypical disseminated herpes simplex virus 1 with hepatitis in a liver transplant recipient: the need for dermatologic evaluation
Disseminated herpes simplex virus (HSV) is mainly seen in immunocompromised individuals. Atypical lesions can be present in both primary infection and reactivation disease. Compared with the general population, inmunocompromised hosts are at greater risk of increased persistency and severity of clinical manifestations, including severe systemic involvement such as esophagitis, meningitis, and hepatitis. Herein, we report the case of a liver transplant recipient with atypical disseminated herpes simplex virus-1 complicated by HSV-related hepatitis. Dermatological consultation and histological assessment were crucial for a correct diagnosis and treatment
A multilayer method for the hydrostatic Navier-Stokes equations: A particular weak solution
In this work we present a multilayer approach to the solution of non-stationary 3D Navier-Stokes equations. We use piecewise smooth weak solutions. We approximate the velocity by a piecewise constant (in z) horizontal velocity and a linear (in z) vertical velocity in each layer, possibly discontinuous across layer interfaces. The multilayer approach is deduced by using the variational formulation and by considering a reduced family of test functions. The procedure naturally provides the mass and momentum interfaces conditions. The mass and momentum conservation across interfaces is formulated via normal flux jump conditions. The jump conditions associated to momentum conservation are formulated by means of an approximation of the vertical derivative of the velocity that appears in the stress tensor. We approximate the multilayer model for hydrostatic pressure, by using a polynomial viscosity matrix finite volume scheme and we present some numerical tests that show the main advantages of the model: it improves the approximation of the vertical velocity, provides good predictions for viscous effects and simulates re-circulations behind solid obstacles
A component library to improve the reusability in the development of converged services
The evolution of communications networks to Next Generation Networks (NGN) has encouraged the development of new services. Nowadays, several technologies are being integrated into telecommunications services in order to provide new functionalities, resulting in what are known as converged services. The objective is to adapt the behavior of the services to the necessities of different users, generating customized services. Some of the main technologies involved in their development are those related to the Web. But due to this type of services implies the combination of different technologies, their development is a very complex process that has to be improved to reduce the time and cost required, with the aim of promoting the success of such services. This paper proposes to apply software reuse through the utilization of a component library and presents one focused on ECharts for SIP Servlets (E4SS). It is a framework, based on the SIP Servlet specification, which uses finite state machines for the definition of converged communications services. Also, to promote the use of the library, a methodology is proposed in order to facilitate the integration between the library operations and the software development cycle
Coherent states for a generalization of the harmonic oscillator
Coherent states for a family of isospectral oscillator Hamiltonians are derived from a suitable choice of annihilation and creation operators. The Fock-Bargmann representation is also obtained
Time representation in reinforcement learning models of the basal ganglia
Reinforcement learning (RL) models have been influential in understanding many aspects of basal ganglia function, from reward prediction to action selection. Time plays an important role in these models, but there is still no theoretical consensus about what kind of time representation is used by the basal ganglia. We review several theoretical accounts and their supporting evidence. We then discuss the relationship between RL models and the timing mechanisms that have been attributed to the basal ganglia. We hypothesize that a single computational system may underlie both RL and interval timingâthe perception of duration in the range of seconds to hours. This hypothesis, which extends earlier models by incorporating a time-sensitive action selection mechanism, may have important implications for understanding disorders like Parkinson's disease in which both decision making and timing are impaired
