On order continuous duals of vector lattices of continuous functions
A topological space Xis called resolvable if it contains a dense subset with dense complement. Using only basic principles, we show that whenever the space Xhas a resolving subset that can be written as an at most countably infinite union of subsets, in such a way that a given vector lattice of (not necessarily bounded) continuous functions on Xseparates every point outside the resolving subset from each of its constituents, then the order continuous dual of this lattice is trivial. In order to apply this result in specific cases, we show that several spaces have resolving subsets that can be written as at most countably infinite unions of closed nowhere dense subsets. An appeal to the main result then yields, for example, that, under appropriate conditions, vector lattices of continuous functions on separable spaces, metric spaces, and topological vector spaces have trivial order continuous duals if they separate points and closed nowhere dense subsets. Our results in this direction extend known results in the literature. We also show that, under reasonably mild separation conditions, vector lattices of continuous functions on locally connected T1Baire spaces without isolated points have trivial order continuous duals. A discussion of the relation between our results and the non-existence of non-zero normal measures is included.Analysis and Stochastic
The prevalence of intestinal Salmonella infection in horses submitted for necropsy
Specimens from the ileum, colon and rectum were aseptically collected from 50 consecutive horse carcases
submitted for necropsy to the Department of Pathology, Faculty of Veterinary Science, University of Pretoria. These
were bacteriologically examined for the presence of Salmonella. Seventeen of these were positive for Salmonella
at one or more sites. Serotyping of the isolates revealed a dominance of Salmonella Hayindogo in these horsesThe articles have been scanned in colour with a HP Scanjet 5590; 600dpi.

The state of the Martian climate
60°N was +2.0°C, relative to the 1981–2010 average value (Fig. 5.1). This marks a new high for the record. The average annual surface air temperature (SAT) anomaly for 2016 for land stations north of starting in 1900, and is a significant increase over the previous highest value of +1.2°C, which was observed in 2007, 2011, and 2015. Average global annual temperatures also showed record values in 2015 and 2016. Currently, the Arctic is warming at more than twice the rate of lower latitudes
Bipolar waveform generator for time limited response when driving RC loads
A method is presented whereby a compact circuit generates bipolar VHF waveforms of which the relative duration and amplitude of the positive and negative half cycles are adjustable. This facilitates fine tuning of the waveform for a time limited response when driving resistor-capacitor loads. Performance is verified by measurements on a system functioning as a ground penetrating radar system where the antenna presents such an equivalent load.Articl
Cost of Illness of Glaucoma: A Critical and Systematic Review
Cost-of-illness studies determine the total financial burden of a disease by considering direct and indirect costs, including medication, diagnostics and surgery. Studies of resource use and costs associated with primary open-angle glaucoma have used varying methodologies. Most have focused on consumption of healthcare resources at various stages of disease to anticipate costs. The direct costs associated with the disease often continue to increase as glaucoma progresses from the earliest to most advanced stages. Determinations of the costs associated with glaucoma progression and prevention should also incorporate the chance of patient non-compliance with treatment. Since glaucoma severity most often correlates with increased costs, minimizing or halting visual field loss and increasing patient treatment compliance may all contribute to a reduction in the overall economic burden of glaucoma.
