    Los recursos naturales en ecosistemas áridos, son condicionantes para el desarrollo de las actividades socioeconómicas de una región. Su conocimiento general, la situación actual y su estado, permiten diseñar políticas de manejo y uso de éstas áreas, contribuyendo al conocimiento del medio físico y su vulnerabilidad, ante acciones presentes y futuras.En éste sentido el estudio del paisaje se vuelve esencial si reconocemos que el mismo resulta de la combinación de factores físicos y biológicos, además de la incidencia de las alteraciones de tipo natural y de las modificaciones antrópicas.El paisaje expresa las características y particularidades intrínsecas del terreno, así como las generadas por las diferentes formas e intensidades con las que la naturaleza y el hombre han transformado su territorio.Teniendo en cuenta estas consideraciones, se planteó un proyecto para aplicar una metodología, apoyada en técnicas de percepción remota y la aplicación de sistemas de información geográfica. Esto permitió sistematizar y ordenar la información geoambiental y definir Unidades de Paisaje en la localidad de Huaco, ubicada en el Departamento Jáchal, a 190 km de la ciudad capital de la provincia de San Juan, República Argentina.Esta zona, rica en recursos naturales, mineros, culturales y terapéuticos, históricamente marginada por las políticas públicas, ahora enfrenta el desafío de integrarse a la economía provincial, nacional e internacional a partir del desarrollo y construcción del Corredor Bioceánico Central, que unirá los océanos Atlántico y Pacífico.Las Unidades de Paisaje quedaron definidas como una expresión integrada de los componentes físicos, biológicos y culturales, que se presentan en este espacio geográfico, y constituyen la base para la gestión de un desarrollo sustentable de la zona de estudio. AbstractThe natural resources in arid ecosystems, are determining factors for the development of the socio-economic activities of a region. Your general knowledge, the current situation and your state, allow you to design policies of management and use of these areas, contributing to the knowledge of the physical environment and their vulnerability, before shares present and future.In this sense the study of the landscape becomes essential if we recognize that it is the result of the combination of physical and biological factors, in addition to the incidence of the alterations of natural and anthropogenic modifications.The landscape expresses the characteristics and intrinsic characteristics of the field, as well as those generated by the different forms and intensities with which nature and man have transformed their territory.With these considerations in mind, it was a project to implement a methodology, supported by remote sensing techniques and the application of geographic information systems. This allowed systematize and sort the geo-environmental information and define landscape units in the town of Huaco, located in the Department Jachal River, 190 kilometers from the capital city of the province of San Juan, Argentina.This area, rich in natural resources, mining, cultural and therapeutic, historically marginalized by public policies, now faces the challenge of integrating to the provincial economy, national and international from the development and construction of the Bioceanic Central Corridor, which will link the Atlantic and Pacific oceans.The landscape units were defined as an integrated expression of the physical, biological and cultural components, which are presented in this geographical area, and form the basis for the management of a sustainable development of the study area

    Galician consensus on management of cardiotoxicity in breast cancer: risk factors, prevention, and early intervention

    This Galician consensus statement is a joint oncologists/cardiologists initiative indented to establish basic recommendations on how to prevent and to manage the cardiotoxicity in breast cancer with the aim of ensuring an optimal cardiovascular care of these patients. A clinical screening of the patients before treatment is recommended to stratify them into a determined risk group based on their intrinsic cardiovascular risk factors and those extrinsic arose from breast cancer therapy, thereby providing individualized preventive and monitoring measures. Suitable initial and ongoing assessments for patients with low and moderate/high risk and planned treatment with anthracyclines and trastuzumab are given; also, measures aimed at preventing and correcting any modifiable risk factor are pointed out .TEVA Farma Españ

    Efficacy and safety of trabectedin in metastatic uterine leiomyosarcoma: A retrospective multicenter study of the Spanish ovarian cancer research group (GEICO)

    Objective: We assessed trabectedin in patients with advanced uterine leiomyosarcoma (uLMS) in real-life clinical practice given according to the marketing authorization. Methods: Thirty-six women from 11 tertiary hospitals across Spain who received trabectedin after anthracyclinecontaining regimen/s were retrospectively analyzed. The primary endpoint was progression-free survival (PFS). Results: Median PFS and overall survival (OS) since starting trabectedin treatment were 5.4 (95%CI: 3.5–7.3) and 18.5 months (95%CI: 11.5–25.6), respectively. Median OS was significantly higher (P = 0.028) in patients receiving trabectedin in ≤ 2nd line (25.3 months) than in ≥ 3rd (15.1 months) and with ECOG performance status ≤ 1 at trabectedin start (19.8 months) than ECOG 2–3 (6.0 months, P = 0.013). When calculating OS since diagnosis, patients had longer OS with localized disease at diagnosis (87.4 months) vs. locally advanced (30.0 months) or metastatic (44.0 months, P = 0.041); and patients who received adjuvant therapy (87.4 months) compared with those who did not (30.0 months, P = 0.003), especially when receiving radiochemotherapy (106.7 months, P = 0.027). One patient (2.8%) had a complete response (CR) and nine patients (25.0%) achieved a partial response (PR) for an objective response rate of 27.8% with median response duration of 11 months (range: 4–93). Eighteen patients (50.0%) had disease stabilization for a disease control rate (DCR) of 77.8%. More patients receiving trabectedin in 1st-line of advanced disease achieved CR (16.7%) and PR (50.0%) than those in ≥ 2nd line/s (0.0% and 20.0%), whereas the DCR was similar across treatment lines. Reversible neutropenia was the most common grade 3/4 laboratory abnormality (19.4%). Conclusions: Trabectedin confers clinical benefit in patients with recurrent/metastatic uLMS, given after failure to an anthracycline-based regimen being comparable to those reported in clinical trials and with a manageable safety profile

    Empathy, engagement, entrainment: the interaction dynamics of aesthetic experience

    A recent version of the view that aesthetic experience is based in empathy as inner imitation explains aesthetic experience as the automatic simulation of actions, emotions, and bodily sensations depicted in an artwork by motor neurons in the brain. Criticizing the simulation theory for committing to an erroneous concept of empathy and failing to distinguish regular from aesthetic experiences of art, I advance an alternative, dynamic approach and claim that aesthetic experience is enacted and skillful, based in the recognition of others’ experiences as distinct from one’s own. In combining insights from mainly psychology, phenomenology, and cognitive science, the dynamic approach aims to explain the emergence of aesthetic experience in terms of the reciprocal interaction between viewer and artwork. I argue that aesthetic experience emerges by participatory sense-making and revolves around movement as a means for creating meaning. While entrainment merely plays a preparatory part in this, aesthetic engagement constitutes the phenomenological side of coupling to an artwork and provides the context for exploration, and eventually for moving, seeing, and feeling with art. I submit that aesthetic experience emerges from bodily and emotional engagement with works of art via the complementary processes of the perception–action and motion–emotion loops. The former involves the embodied visual exploration of an artwork in physical space, and progressively structures and organizes visual experience by way of perceptual feedback from body movements made in response to the artwork. The latter concerns the movement qualities and shapes of implicit and explicit bodily responses to an artwork that cue emotion and thereby modulate over-all affect and attitude. The two processes cause the viewer to bodily and emotionally move with and be moved by individual works of art, and consequently to recognize another psychological orientation than her own, which explains how art can cause feelings of insight or awe and disclose aspects of life that are unfamiliar or novel to the viewer

    Geochemical vs. microbial approach to the new production of the coastal upwelling system of the Ría de Vigo (NW Spain)

    Symposium GLOBEC–IMBER España, Valencia, 28-30 marzo 2007The fate of the inorganic and organic N trapped in the coastal upwelling system of Ría de Vigo (NW Spain), accumulation/export versus production/ consumption, was studied at the short time–scale (2–4 d) during July 2002. A transient geochemical box model was applied to the measured residual currents and concentrations of inorganic (NT), dissolved (DON) and particulate (PON) organic N to obtain the i) net balance of inputs minus outputs (i – o); ii) the net accumulation (V·dN/dt); and iii) the net ecosystem production (NEP) of NT, DON and PON. The average NEP during July (107 mg N m-2 d-1) indicates an autotrophic metabolism of the ría. About 25% of this material was exported to the shelf and the remaining 75% was transferred to the sediments or promoted to higher trophic levels. Measurements of oxygen production (Pg) and respiration (R) were performed in a single site twice a week at five depths. In addition, microzooplankton grazing and sedimentation rates were measured for first time in the Ría de Vigo. The high grazing rates observed reduces the efficiency of the ría to transfer organic matter directly from phytoplankton to the metazoans Comparison of the metabolic state of the Ría de Vigo derived from these in vitro measurements (Pg, R, grazing and sedimentation) and the in situ geochemical budget shows that they agree in 2 of the 3 study cases. Both methods are complementary and their simultaneous application allows obtaining a better knowledge of coastal upwelling ecosystems functioningN

    Novel quinoxaline 1,4-di-N-oxide derivatives as new potential antichagasic agents

    As a continuation of our research and with the aim of obtaining new agents against Chagas disease, an extremely neglected disease which threatens 100 million people, eighteen new quinoxaline 1,4-di-Noxide derivatives have been synthesized following the Beirut reaction. The synthesis of the new derivatives was optimized through the use of a new and more efficient microwave-assisted organic synthetic method. The new derivatives showed excellent in vitro biological activity against Trypanosoma cruzi. Compound 17, which was substituted with fluoro groups at the 6- and 7-positions of the quinoxaline ring, was the most active and selective in the cytotoxicity assay. The electrochemical study showed that the most active compounds, which were substituted by electron-withdrawing groups,possessed a greater ease of reduction of the N-oxide group

    Introduction: Increased cardiovascular (CV) morbidity and mortality is observed in inflammatory joint diseases (IJDs) such as rheumatoid arthritis, ankylosing spondylitis, and psoriatic arthritis. However, the management of CV disease in these conditions is far from being well established.Areas covered: This review summarizes the main epidemiologic, pathophysiological, and clinical risk factors of CV disease associated with IJDs. Less common aspects on early diagnosis and risk stratification of the CV disease in these conditions are also discussed. In Europe, the most commonly used risk algorithm in patients with IJDs is the modified SCORE index based on the revised recommendations proposed by the EULAR task force in 2017.Expert opinion: Early identification of IJD patients at high risk of CV disease is essential. It should include the use of complementary noninvasive imaging techniques. A multidisciplinary approach aimed to improve heart-healthy habits, including strict control of classic CV risk factors is crucial. Adequate management of the underlying IJD is also of main importance since the reduction of disease activity decreases the risk of CV events. Non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs may have a lesser harmful effect in IJD than in the general population, due to their anti-inflammatory effects along with other potential beneficial effects.This research was partially funded by FOREUM—Foundation for Research in Rheumatolog

    The evolution of the ventilatory ratio is a prognostic factor in mechanically ventilated COVID-19 ARDS patients

    Background: Mortality due to COVID-19 is high, especially in patients requiring mechanical ventilation. The purpose of the study is to investigate associations between mortality and variables measured during the first three days of mechanical ventilation in patients with COVID-19 intubated at ICU admission. Methods: Multicenter, observational, cohort study includes consecutive patients with COVID-19 admitted to 44 Spanish ICUs between February 25 and July 31, 2020, who required intubation at ICU admission and mechanical ventilation for more than three days. We collected demographic and clinical data prior to admission; information about clinical evolution at days 1 and 3 of mechanical ventilation; and outcomes. Results: Of the 2,095 patients with COVID-19 admitted to the ICU, 1,118 (53.3%) were intubated at day 1 and remained under mechanical ventilation at day three. From days 1 to 3, PaO2/FiO2 increased from 115.6 [80.0-171.2] to 180.0 [135.4-227.9] mmHg and the ventilatory ratio from 1.73 [1.33-2.25] to 1.96 [1.61-2.40]. In-hospital mortality was 38.7%. A higher increase between ICU admission and day 3 in the ventilatory ratio (OR 1.04 [CI 1.01-1.07], p = 0.030) and creatinine levels (OR 1.05 [CI 1.01-1.09], p = 0.005) and a lower increase in platelet counts (OR 0.96 [CI 0.93-1.00], p = 0.037) were independently associated with a higher risk of death. No association between mortality and the PaO2/FiO2 variation was observed (OR 0.99 [CI 0.95 to 1.02], p = 0.47). Conclusions: Higher ventilatory ratio and its increase at day 3 is associated with mortality in patients with COVID-19 receiving mechanical ventilation at ICU admission. No association was found in the PaO2/FiO2 variation

    Measurement of the t(t)over-bar production cross section in pp collisions at root s=7 TeV in dilepton final states containing a tau

    The top quark pair production cross section is measured in dilepton events with one electron or muon, and one hadronically decaying tau lepton from the decay t (t) over bar -> (l nu(l))((sic)(h)nu((sic)))b (b) over bar, (l = e, mu). The data sample corresponds to an integrated luminosity of 2.0 fb(-1) for the electron channel and 2.2 fb(-1) for the muon channel, collected by the CMS detector at the LHC. This is the first measurement of the t (t) over bar cross section explicitly including tau leptons in proton- proton collisions at root s = 7 TeV. The measured value sigma(t (t) over bar) = 143 +/- 14(stat) +/- 22(syst) +/- 3(lumi) pb is consistent with the standard model predictions
