    The direct conversion of simple and sterically hindered Nα-protected amino/peptide hydroxamic acids to O-benzyl hydroxamates employing K2CO3, tetrabutylammonium bromide and benzyl bromide is described. In addition, Cbz-Ala-CONHOH and Cbz-Phe-CONHOH derived acylaminoxy peptides 3j and 3k have also been prepared. The method is of importance in the view of easy availability of precursors, catalyst and reaction conditions. All the products are obtained in moderate to good yields

    An efficient one-pot synthesis of Nα-protected S-linked 1,3,5-triazine tethered peptidomimetics is described. The protocol involves a three-component condensation reaction employing Nα-protected amino alkyl isothiouronium salt, formaldehyde and amino acid ester or aryl amine as reactants. Various aryl amines with substitutions and amino acids with simple as well as bifunctional side chains were employed to obtain triazine tethered peptidomimetics in good yield. © 2014 Published by Elsevier Ltd

    Abstract: A solid phase synthesis of a cyclic peptoid bearing (1H-tetrazol-5-yl)methyl as N-substituent has been developed employing the monomer approach. The requisite monomeric Nosyl-protected N-(1-trityl-1H-tetrazol-5-yl)methyl substituted glycine was accessed by a convenient synthesis involving Click reaction of Nosyl-protected N-(cyanomethyl)glycine methyl ester and sodium azide as a key step. This building block was then employed in the solid phase synthesis of a tetramer peptoid. The linear tetramer was subjected to macrocyclization using PyBOP to obtain a cyclic peptoid with (1H-tetrazol-5-yl)methyl pendants in good yield. © 2017, Springer Science+Business Media New York

    Measurement of the B0-anti-B0-Oscillation Frequency with Inclusive Dilepton Events

    The B0B^0-Bˉ0\bar B^0 oscillation frequency has been measured with a sample of 23 million \B\bar B pairs collected with the BABAR detector at the PEP-II asymmetric B Factory at SLAC. In this sample, we select events in which both B mesons decay semileptonically and use the charge of the leptons to identify the flavor of each B meson. A simultaneous fit to the decay time difference distributions for opposite- and same-sign dilepton events gives Δmd=0.493±0.012(stat)±0.009(syst)\Delta m_d = 0.493 \pm 0.012{(stat)}\pm 0.009{(syst)} ps−1^{-1}.Comment: 7 pages, 1 figure, submitted to Physical Review Letter

    Burden and risk factors for Pseudomonas aeruginosa community-acquired pneumonia:a Multinational Point Prevalence Study of Hospitalised Patients

    Pseudornonas aeruginosa is a challenging bacterium to treat due to its intrinsic resistance to the antibiotics used most frequently in patients with community-acquired pneumonia (CAP). Data about the global burden and risk factors associated with P. aeruginosa-CAP are limited. We assessed the multinational burden and specific risk factors associated with P. aeruginosa-CAP. We enrolled 3193 patients in 54 countries with confirmed diagnosis of CAP who underwent microbiological testing at admission. Prevalence was calculated according to the identification of P. aeruginosa. Logistic regression analysis was used to identify risk factors for antibiotic-susceptible and antibiotic-resistant P. aeruginosa-CAP. The prevalence of P. aeruginosa and antibiotic-resistant P. aeruginosa-CAP was 4.2% and 2.0%, respectively. The rate of P. aeruginosa CAP in patients with prior infection/colonisation due to P. aeruginosa and at least one of the three independently associated chronic lung diseases (i.e. tracheostomy, bronchiectasis and/or very severe chronic obstructive pulmonary disease) was 67%. In contrast, the rate of P. aeruginosa-CAP was 2% in patients without prior P. aeruginosa infection/colonisation and none of the selected chronic lung diseases. The multinational prevalence of P. aeruginosa-CAP is low. The risk factors identified in this study may guide healthcare professionals in deciding empirical antibiotic coverage for CAP patients

    Search for Gravitational Waves from Intermediate Mass Binary Black Holes

    We present the results of a weakly modeled burst search for gravitational waves from mergers of non-spinning intermediate mass black holes (IMBH) in the total mass range 100--450 solar masses and with the component mass ratios between 1:1 and 4:1. The search was conducted on data collected by the LIGO and Virgo detectors between November of 2005 and October of 2007. No plausible signals were observed by the search which constrains the astrophysical rates of the IMBH mergers as a function of the component masses.     Search for the Zγ decay mode of new high-mass resonances in pp collisions at √s = 13 TeV with the ATLAS detector

    This letter presents a search for narrow, high-mass resonances in the Zγ final state with the Z boson decaying into a pair of electrons or muons. The √s = 13 TeV pp collision data were recorded by the ATLAS detector at the CERN Large Hadron Collider and have an integrated luminosity of 140 fb−1. The data are found to be in agreement with the Standard Model background expectation. Upper limits are set on the resonance production cross section times the decay branching ratio into Zγ. For spin-0 resonances produced via gluon–gluon fusion, the observed limits at 95% confidence level vary between 65.5 fb and 0.6 fb, while for spin-2 resonances produced via gluon–gluon fusion (or quark–antiquark initial states) limits vary between 77.4 (76.1) fb and 0.6 (0.5) fb, for the mass range from 220 GeV to 3400 GeV

    Search for heavy resonances decaying into a Z or W boson and a Higgs boson in final states with leptons and b-jets in 139 fb−1 of pp collisions at s√ = 13 TeV with the ATLAS detector

    This article presents a search for new resonances decaying into a Z or W boson and a 125 GeV Higgs boson h, and it targets the ÎœÎœÂŻÂŻÂŻbbÂŻÂŻ, ℓ+ℓ−bbÂŻÂŻ, or ℓ±ΜbbÂŻÂŻ final states, where ℓ = e or ÎŒ, in proton-proton collisions at s√ = 13 TeV. The data used correspond to a total integrated luminosity of 139 fb−1 collected by the ATLAS detector during Run 2 of the LHC at CERN. The search is conducted by examining the reconstructed invariant or transverse mass distributions of Zh or Wh candidates for evidence of a localised excess in the mass range from 220 GeV to 5 TeV. No significant excess is observed and 95% confidence-level upper limits between 1.3 pb and 0.3 fb are placed on the production cross section times branching fraction of neutral and charged spin-1 resonances and CP-odd scalar bosons. These limits are converted into constraints on the parameter space of the Heavy Vector Triplet model and the two-Higgs-doublet model
