    Das Flussneunauge (Lampetra fluviatilis Linnaeus, 1758), das im Anhang II der FFH-Richtlinie als Tierart „von gemeinschaftlichem Interesse“ aufgeführt ist, lebt in den Küstenregionen europäischer Meere und wandert als erwachsenes Tier zum Laichen in die einmündenden Flüsse. Daher kommt bzw. kam es in Sachsen-Anhalt nur in der Elbe und größeren Nebenflüssen wie der Havel, Mulde, Saale und Schwarzen Elster vor (Kammerad et al. 1997). Hier war es aber durch die starke Abwasserbelastung und den Bau des Elbewehres in Geesthacht (Niedersachsen) ausgestorben. Erst nach der Verbesserung der Wassergüte und der Errichtung von funktionsfähigen Fischaufstiegsanlagen in Geesthacht konnte es wieder in der Elbe aufsteigen. Am 1.5.2002 gelang der erste Nachweis für den erfolgreichen Aufstieg dieser Art in den Bereich der Mittelelbe durch den Fang von 34 Flussneunaugen am Stadtwehr Dessau (Gaumert & Zuppke 2003)

    Prevalence and Correlates of Cognitive Impairment in Kidney Transplant Patients Using the DemTect—Results of a KTx360 Substudy

    Cognitive impairment in kidney transplantation (KTx) patients is associated with allograft survival and mortality. However, the prevalence of cognitive impairment after KTx is still understudied. Thus, we aimed to assess the prevalence of cognitive impairment in KTx patients and to identify sociodemographic, medical, donation-specific, and psychological variables associated with cognitive impairment. In this cross-sectional two-center study, 583 KTx patients participated in a structured post-transplant care program. The DemTect was used to assess cognition, and cognitive impairment was defined as a score of 30 kg/m2). Using logistic regression analysis, all variables except age remained significant. Our results suggest that cognitive impairment affects a significant number of patients after KTx. Transplant centers may consider screening for cognitive impairment using objective tests, especially in patients with a high-risk profile. Furthermore, studies with longitudinal designs are required in order to assess moderators and mediators for cognitive trajectories

    Wir erkennen die Wichtigkeit von Forschungsdaten und -software für unsere Forschungsprozesse an und ordnen die Veröffentlichung von Forschungsdaten und -software als wesentlichen Bestandteil der wissenschaftlichen Publikationstätigkeit ein. Dafür unterstützen wir als Verbund unsere Forschenden im Umgang mit Daten und Software nach den FAIR-Prinzipien in Einvernehmen mit dem DFG-Kodex “Leitlinien zur Sicherung guter wissenschaftlicher Praxis”. In Zusammenarbeit mit unseren Institutionen und Fachcommunities stellen wir adäquate Forschungsdatenmanagement-Werkzeuge und -Dienste bereit und befähigen unsere Forschenden zum Umgang damit. Dabei bauen wir vorzugsweise auf existierenden Angeboten auf und bemühen uns im Gegenzug um deren Anpassung an unsere Bedürfnisse. Wir streben Maßnahmen für die Definition und Sicherstellung der Qualität unserer Forschungsdaten und -software an. Wir verwenden vorzugsweise existierende Daten-/Metadatenstandards und vernetzen uns nach Möglichkeit für die Erstellung und Implementierung neuer Standards mit entsprechenden nationalen und internationalen Initiativen. Wir verfolgen die Entwicklungen im Bereich des Forschungsdaten- und -softwaremanagements und prüfen neu entstehende Empfehlungen und Richtlinien zeitnah auf ihre Umsetzbarkeit

    Mobility in a Globalised World

    The term mobility has different meanings in the following academic disciplines. In economics, mobility is the ability of an individual or a group to improve their economic status in relation to income and wealth within their lifetime or between generations. In information systems and computer science, mobility is used for the concept of mobile computing, in which a computer is transported by a person during normal use. Logistics creates, by the design of logistics networks, the infrastructure for the mobility of people and goods. Electric mobility is one of today’s solutions from engineering perspective to reduce the need of energy resources and environmental impact. Moreover, for urban planning, mobility is the crunch question about how to optimize the different needs for mobility and how to link different transportation systems. The conference “Mobility in a Globalised World” took place in Iserlohn, Germany, on September 14th – 15th, 2011. The aim of this conference was to provide an interdisciplinary forum for the exchange of ideas among practitioners, researchers, and government officials regarding the different modes of mobility in a globalised world, focusing on both domestic and international issues.     The genetic architecture of the human cerebral cortex

    The cerebral cortex underlies our complex cognitive capabilities, yet little is known about the specific genetic loci that influence human cortical structure. To identify genetic variants that affect cortical structure, we conducted a genome-wide association meta-analysis of brain magnetic resonance imaging data from 51,665 individuals. We analyzed the surface area and average thickness of the whole cortex and 34 regions with known functional specializations. We identified 199 significant loci and found significant enrichment for loci influencing total surface area within regulatory elements that are active during prenatal cortical development, supporting the radial unit hypothesis. Loci that affect regional surface area cluster near genes in Wnt signaling pathways, which influence progenitor expansion and areal identity. Variation in cortical structure is genetically correlated with cognitive function, Parkinson's disease, insomnia, depression, neuroticism, and attention deficit hyperactivity disorder

    Revealing the nature of radar reflections in ice: DEP-based FDTD forward modeling

    Successful simulation of ground penetrating radar (GPR) traces in polar ice is achieved bynumerical finite-difference time-domain (FDTD) forward modeling.Properties of the modeled medium are taken from high resolution dielectric profiling (DEP)of the upper 100~m of an ice core from Dronning Maud Land, Antarctica.The GPR reference trace is calculated from stacking of a normal moveout correctedcommon-midpoint survey, carried out near the borehole location.The excellent agreement of synthetic and GPR-based results demonstrates the capability ofFDTD models to reproduce radargrams from ice core properties forinterpretation of radio echo sounding data, and emphasizes the exploitation of radar datafor improved interpretations of glaciological climate proxys.In addition to the presentation of modeling results, we perform sensitivity experiments toinvestigate the nature and origin of radar reflection in ice,discuss reasons for the failure of modeling studies in the past, and indicate new approaches
