Twenty-One New Light Curves of OGLE-TR-56b: New System Parameters and Limits on Timing Variations
Although OGLE-TR-56b was the second transiting exoplanet discovered, only one
light curve, observed in 2006, has been published besides the discovery data.
We present twenty-one light curves of nineteen different transits observed
between July 2003 and July 2009 with the Magellan Telescopes and Gemini South.
The combined analysis of the new light curves confirms a slightly inflated
planetary radius relative to model predictions, with R_p = 1.378 +/- 0.090 R_J.
However, the values found for the transit duration, semimajor axis, and
inclination values differ significantly from the previous result, likely due to
systematic errors. The new semimajor axis and inclination, a = 0.01942 +/-
0.00015 AU and i = 73.72 +/- 0.18 degrees, are smaller than previously
reported, while the total duration, T_14 = 7931 +/- 38 s, is 18 minutes longer.
The transit midtimes have errors from 23 s to several minutes, and no evidence
is seen for transit midtime or duration variations. Similarly, no change is
seen in the orbital period, implying a nominal stellar tidal decay factor of

Pharmacokinetics, Safety, and Antiviral Effects of Multiple Doses of the Respiratory Syncytial Virus (RSV) Fusion Protein Inhibitor, JNJ-53718678, in Infants Hospitalized With RSV Infection: A Randomized Phase 1b Study
BACKGROUND: This phase 1b study evaluated the pharmacokinetics, safety, and antiviral effects of the respiratory syncytial virus (RSV)-specific fusion inhibitor JNJ-53718678 (JNJ-8678) in hospitalized RSV-infected patients aged > 1 to /=6 to /=3 to 1 to < 3 months) were randomized to oral JNJ-8678 or placebo once daily for 7 days. Dose increases followed data review committee recommendations (cohort 1: 2/6/8/9 mg/kg; cohort 2: 1.5/4.5/6 mg/kg; cohort 3: 1/3/5 mg/kg). Cohort 1 included a 9 mg/kg dose, as target exposures were not reached at lower doses. Sparse pharmacokinetic samples were assessed using population pharmacokinetics modeling. Safety was assessed by adverse events (AEs), laboratory tests, and electrocardiograms. To assess antiviral effects, RSV RNA viral load from nasal swabs was quantified over time using reverse-transcription quantitative polymerase chain reaction. RESULTS: Patients received JNJ-8678 (n = 37) or placebo (n = 7). Pharmacokinetic parameters were similar at the highest doses for cohorts 1-3 (area under the plasma concentration-time curve from time of administration up to 24 hours postdosing at day 7: 35 840, 34 980, and 39 627 ng x hour/mL, respectively). Two grade 3 AEs were reported (both bronchiolitis; 1 JNJ-8678, 1 placebo), reported as serious AEs; all other AEs were grade 1 or 2. Two additional serious AEs were reported (rhinitis [JNJ-8678]; pneumonia [placebo]). No deaths, grade 4 AEs, or AEs leading to discontinuation were reported. Median RSV viral load change from baseline in JNJ-8678 vs placebo by day 3 was -1.98 vs -0.32 log10 copies/mL. CONCLUSIONS: In RSV-infected infants, JNJ-8678 was well tolerated. Near-infrared integral-field spectra of the planet/brown dwarf companion AB Pic b
Chauvin et al. 2005 imaged a co-moving companion at ~260 AU from the young
star AB Pic A. Evolutionary models predictions based on J H K photometry of AB
Pic b suggested a mass of ~13 - 14 MJup, placing the object at the
deuterium-burning boundary. We used the adaptive-optics-fed integral field
spectrograph SINFONI to obtain high quality medium-resolution spectra of AB Pic
b (R = 1500-2000) over the 1.1 - 2.5 microns range. Our analysis relies on the
comparison of our spectra to young standard templates and to the latest
libraries of synthetic spectra developed by the Lyon's Group. AB Pic b is
confirmed to be a young early-L dwarf companion. We derive a spectral type
L0-L1 and find several features indicative of intermediate gravity atmosphere.
A comparison to synthetic spectra yields Teff = 2000+100-300 K and log(g) = 4
+- 0.5 dex. The determination of the derived atmospheric parameters of AB Pic b
is limited by a non-perfect match of current atmosphere spectra with our
near-infrared observations of AB Pic b. The current treatment of dust settling
and missing molecular opacity lines in the atmosphere models could be
responsible. By combining the observed photometry, the surface fluxes from
atmosphere models and the known distance of the system, we derive new mass,
luminosity and radius estimates of AB Pic b. They confirm independently the
evolutionary model predictions. We finally review the current methods used to
characterize planetary mass companions and discuss them in the perspective of

Clinical characteristics of patients hospitalized with COVID-19 in Spain: Results from the SEMI-COVID-19 Registry
Background: Spain has been one of the countries most affected by the COVID-19 pandemic. Objective: To create a registry of patients with COVID-19 hospitalized in Spain, in order to improve our knowledge of the clinical, diagnostic, therapeutic, and prognostic aspects of this disease. Methods: A multicentre retrospective cohort study, including consecutive patients hospitalized with confirmed COVID-19 throughout Spain. Epidemiological and clinical data, additional tests at admission and at seven days, treatments administered, and progress at 30 days of hospitalization were collected from electronic medical records. Results: Up to June 30th 2020, 15,111 patients from 150 hospitals were included. Their median age was 69.4 years (range: 18-102 years) and 57.2% were male. Prevalences of hypertension, dyslipidemia, and diabetes mellitus were 50.9%, 39.7%, and 19.4%, respectively. The most frequent symptoms were fever (84.2%) and cough (73.5%). High values of ferritin (73.5%), lactate dehydrogenase (73.9%), and D-dimer (63.8%), as well as lymphopenia (52.8%), were frequent. The most used antiviral drugs were hydroxychloroquine (85.6%) and lopinavir/ritonavir (61.4%); 33.1% developed respiratory distress. Overall mortality rate was 21.0%, with a marked increase with age (50-59 years: 4.7%, 60-69 years: 10.5%, 70-79 years: 26.9%, ≥ 80 years: 46.0%). Conclusions: The SEMI-COVID-19 Network provides data on the clinical characteristics of patients with COVID-19 hospitalized in Spain. Patients with COVID-19 hospitalized in Spain are mostly severe cases, as one in three patients developed respiratory distress and one in five patients died. Métodos: Estudio de cohorte retrospectiva, multicéntrico, que incluye pacientes consecutivos hospitalizados con COVID-19 confirmada en toda España. Se obtuvieron los datos epidemiológicos y clínicos, las pruebas complementarias al ingreso y a los 7 días de la admisión, los tratamientos administrados y la evolución a los 30 días de hospitalización de las historias clínicas electrónicas. Resultados: Hasta el 30 de junio de 2020 se incluyeron 15.111 pacientes de 150 hospitales. Su mediana de edad fue 69,4 años (rango: 18-102 años) y el 57,2% eran hombres. Highlights from the Pierre Auger Observatory
The Pierre Auger Observatory is the world's largest cosmic ray observatory.
Our current exposure reaches nearly 40,000 km str and provides us with an
unprecedented quality data set. The performance and stability of the detectors
and their enhancements are described. Data analyses have led to a number of
major breakthroughs. Among these we discuss the energy spectrum and the
searches for large-scale anisotropies. We present analyses of our X
data and show how it can be interpreted in terms of mass composition. We also
describe some new analyses that extract mass sensitive parameters from the 100%
duty cycle SD data. A coherent interpretation of all these recent results opens
new directions. The consequences regarding the cosmic ray composition and the

Ultrahigh-energy neutrino follow-up of Gravitational Wave events GW150914 and GW151226 with the Pierre Auger Observatory
On September 14, 2015 the Advanced LIGO detectors observed their first
gravitational-wave (GW) transient GW150914. This was followed by a second GW
event observed on December 26, 2015. Both events were inferred to have arisen
from the merger of black holes in binary systems. Such a system may emit
neutrinos if there are magnetic fields and disk debris remaining from the
formation of the two black holes. With the surface detector array of the Pierre
Auger Observatory we can search for neutrinos with energy above 100 PeV from
point-like sources across the sky with equatorial declination from about -65
deg. to +60 deg., and in particular from a fraction of the 90% confidence-level
(CL) inferred positions in the sky of GW150914 and GW151226. A targeted search
for highly-inclined extensive air showers, produced either by interactions of
downward-going neutrinos of all flavors in the atmosphere or by the decays of
tau leptons originating from tau-neutrino interactions in the Earth's crust
(Earth-skimming neutrinos), yielded no candidates in the Auger data collected
within s around or 1 day after the coordinated universal time (UTC)
of GW150914 and GW151226, as well as in the same search periods relative to the
UTC time of the GW candidate event LVT151012. From the non-observation we
constrain the amount of energy radiated in ultrahigh-energy neutrinos from such

A search for point sources of EeV photons
Measurements of air showers made using the hybrid technique developed with
the fluorescence and surface detectors of the Pierre Auger Observatory allow a
sensitive search for point sources of EeV photons anywhere in the exposed sky.
A multivariate analysis reduces the background of hadronic cosmic rays. The
search is sensitive to a declination band from -85{\deg} to +20{\deg}, in an
energy range from 10^17.3 eV to 10^18.5 eV. No photon point source has been
detected. An upper limit on the photon flux has been derived for every
direction. The mean value of the energy flux limit that results from this,
assuming a photon spectral index of -2, is 0.06 eV cm^-2 s^-1, and no celestial
direction exceeds 0.25 eV cm^-2 s^-1. These upper limits constrain scenarios in
which EeV cosmic ray protons are emitted by non-transient sources in the

Reconstruction of inclined air showers detected with the Pierre Auger Observatory
We describe the method devised to reconstruct inclined cosmic-ray air showers
with zenith angles greater than detected with the surface array of
the Pierre Auger Observatory. The measured signals at the ground level are
fitted to muon density distributions predicted with atmospheric cascade models
to obtain the relative shower size as an overall normalization parameter. The
method is evaluated using simulated showers to test its performance. The energy
of the cosmic rays is calibrated using a sub-sample of events reconstructed
with both the fluorescence and surface array techniques. The reconstruction
method described here provides the basis of complementary analyses including an
independent measurement of the energy spectrum of ultra-high energy cosmic rays

Azimuthal asymmetry in the risetime of the surface detector signals of the Pierre Auger Observatory
The azimuthal asymmetry in the risetime of signals in Auger surface detector
stations is a source of information on shower development. The azimuthal
asymmetry is due to a combination of the longitudinal evolution of the shower
and geometrical effects related to the angles of incidence of the particles
into the detectors. The magnitude of the effect depends upon the zenith angle
and state of development of the shower and thus provides a novel observable,
, sensitive to the mass composition of cosmic rays
above eV. By comparing measurements with predictions from
shower simulations, we find for both of our adopted models of hadronic physics
(QGSJETII-04 and EPOS-LHC) an indication that the mean cosmic-ray mass
increases slowly with energy, as has been inferred from other studies. However,
the mass estimates are dependent on the shower model and on the range of
distance from the shower core selected. Thus the method has uncovered further
deficiencies in our understanding of shower modelling that must be resolved
