    O artigo em questão aborda a transição do paradigma tradicional para o paradigma emergente, enfocando a educação e sua relação com as novas tecnologias da informação e comunicação (TIC). Por meio de uma revisão bibliográfica, busca refletir acerca da importância desses meios interativos no processo educativo e sua influência numa formação transdisciplinar. Ainda, aponta a necessidade da escola se conectar com essas novas tecnologias, tão presentes na vida dos alunos, e por vezes alijada do ambiente escolar.   PALAVRAS-CHAVE: Paradigma; transdisciplinaridade; tecnologias da informação e comunicação.     ABSTRACT This article tackles the transition from the traditional paradigm to the emerging one, focusing on education and its relation to the information and communication technologies (ICT). By way of a bibliographical revision, it seeks to reflect upon the importance of these interactive media in the educational process and their influence on transdisciplinary education. Furthermore, it shows the need for the school to connect with such new technologies, which are so present in the pupils’ lives, but which are far from the school environment at times.   KEYWORDS: Paradigm; transdisciplinarity; information and communication technologies.     RESUMEN El artículo en cuestión se analiza la transición del paradigma tradicional al paradigma emergente, centrándose en la educación y su relación con las nuevas tecnologías de la información y la comunicación (TIC). A través de una revisión bibliográfica, tiene como objetivo reflexionar sobre la importancia de estos medios interactivos en el proceso educativo y su influencia en la formación transdisciplinario.     Interaction of Vibrio cholerae non-O1/non-O139 with Copepods, Cladocerans and Competing Bacteria in the Large Alkaline Lake Neusiedler See, Austria

    Vibrio cholerae is a human pathogen and natural inhabitant of aquatic environments. Serogroups O1/O139 have been associated with epidemic cholera, while non-O1/non-O139 serogroups usually cause human disease other than classical cholera. V. cholerae non-O1/non-O139 from the Neusiedler See, a large Central European lake, have caused ear and wound infections, including one case of fatal septicaemia. Recent investigations demonstrated rapid planktonic growth of V. cholerae non-O1/non-O139 and correlation with zooplankton biomass. The aim of this study was to elucidate the interaction of autochthonous V. cholerae with two dominant crustacean zooplankton species in the lake and investigate the influence of the natural bacterial community on this interaction. An existing data set was evaluated for statistical relationships between zooplankton species and V. cholerae and co-culture experiments were performed in the laboratory. A new fluorescence in situ hybridisation protocol was applied for quantification of V. cholerae non-O1/non-O139 cells, which significantly reduced analysis time. The experiments clearly demonstrated a significant relationship of autochthonous V. cholerae non-O1/non-O139 with cladocerans by promoting growth of V. cholerae non-O1/non-O139 in the water and on the surfaces of the cladocerans. In contrast, copepods had a negative effect on the growth of V. cholerae non-O1/non-O139 via competing bacteria from their surfaces. Thus, beside other known factors, biofilm formation by V. cholerae on crustacean zooplankton appears to be zooplankton taxon specific and may be controlled by the natural bacterial community.     Diante das dificuldades para se trabalhar as noções do teatro pós-dramático no ambiente escolar, reconhece-se a emergência de um novo paradigma educacional também na pedagogia teatral. Este trabalho busca perceber aspectos metodológicos influenciados pela relação entre o ensino do teatro pós-dramático e o paradigma educacional emergente, refletindo a partir da concepção de pós-dramático desenvolvido por Lehmann (2007) e de paradigma educacional emergente proposta por Moraes (2007). O estudo utiliza a revisão teórica para delimitar as noções e estabelecer as aproximações e seu possível reflexo no ensino do teatro pós-dramático em uma perspectiva educacional emergente. In view of the difficulties surrounding the concepts of post-dramatic theater in the school environment, the emergence of a new educational paradigm is also recognized in theater pedagogy. This work seeks to understand methodological aspects influenced by the relationship between post-dramatic theater teaching and the emergent educational paradigm, reflecting from the post-dramatic conception developed by Lehmann (2007) and the emerging educational paradigm proposed by Moraes (2007). The study uses theoretical revision to define the concepts and establish approximations and their possible reflections in the teaching of post-dramatic theater from an emergent educational perspective.Ante las dificultades para trabajar las nociones del teatro post-dramático en el entorno escolar, el surgimiento de un nuevo paradigma educativo también se reconoce en la pedagogía teatral. Este trabajo busca compreender los aspectos metodológicos influenciados por la relación entre la enseñanza teatral post-dramática y el paradigma educativo emergente, reflejando la concepción post-dramática desarrollada por Lehmann (2007) y el paradigma educativo emergente propuesto por Moraes (2007). El estudio utiliza la revisión teórica para delimitar las nociones y estabelecer las aproximaciones y su posible reflexión en la enseñanza del teatro post-dramático en una perspectiva educativa emergente.

    Establishing an algorithm for molecular genetic diagnostics in 127 families with juvenile nephronophthisis.BackgroundJuvenile nephronophthisis (NPH1), an autosomal recessive cystic disease of the kidney, represents the most common genetic cause of end-stage renal disease in the first two decades of life. On the basis of identification of the gene (NPHP1) defective in NPH1 and the presence of homozygous deletions of NPHP1 in the majority of NPH1 patients, molecular genetic diagnosis for NPH1 is now possible. Molecular genetic testing offers the only method for definite diagnosis of NPH1 and avoids invasive diagnostic measures like renal biopsy.MethodsWe examined 127 families (204 patients) with the presumed diagnosis of NPH using molecular genetic diagnostic techniques. In 68 families, renal biopsy was performed and was consistent with NPH, and in 61 families, there was more than one affected child ("multiplex families").ResultsIn 74 families (115 patients), there was proof of the diagnosis of NPH1 by detection of a homozygous deletion of the NPHP1 gene, and in 5 families a heterozygous deletion in combination with a point mutation in NPHP1 was demonstrated. Furthermore, for 16 families, NPH1 was excluded with high likelihood by linkage analysis, and for 20 families by detection of heterozygosity for two newly identified polymorphic markers within the deletion region. In 5 of the remaining 12 families, which were noninformative for these markers, fluorescence in situ hybridization did not detect any further heterozygous deletions.ConclusionsThe diagnosis of NPH1 was proven by molecular genetic techniques in 62% of families with one or more children with the presumed diagnosis of NPH. We present evidence that there is a fourth locus for NPH, since only 6 of the 26 multiplex families in whom the diagnosis of NPH1 was excluded were compatible with linkage to other loci for NPH. On the basis of the presented data, we propose an algorithm for molecular genetic diagnostics in NPH

    Real-time monitoring of beta-d-glucuronidase activity in sediment laden streams: A comparison of prototypes

    AbstractDetection of enzymatic activities has been proposed as a rapid surrogate for the culture-based microbiological pollution monitoring of water resources. This paper presents the results of tests on four fully automated prototype instruments for the on-site monitoring of beta-d-glucuronidase (GLUC) activity. The tests were performed on sediment-laden stream water in the Hydrological Open Air Laboratory (HOAL) during the period of March 2014 to March 2015. The dominant source of faecal pollution in the stream was swine manure applied to the fields within the catchment. The experiments indicated that instrument pairs with the same construction design yielded highly consistent results (R2 = 0.96 and R2 = 0.94), whereas the results between different designs were less consistent (R2 = 0.71). Correlations between the GLUC activity measured on-site and culture-based Escherichia coli analyses over the entire study period yielded R2 = 0.52 and R2 = 0.47 for the two designs, respectively. The correlations tended to be higher at the event scale. The GLUC activity was less correlated with suspended sediment concentrations than with E. coli, which is interpreted in terms of indicator applicability and the time since manure application. The study shows that this rapid assay can yield consistent results over a long period of on-site operation in technically challenging habitats. Although the use of GLUC activity as a proxy for culture-based assays could not be proven for the observed habitat, the study results suggest that this biochemical indicator has high potential for implementation in early warning systems

    Have genetic targets for faecal pollution diagnostics and source tracking revolutionised water quality analysis yet?

    The impacts on faecal pollution analysis using nucleic acid-based methods, such as PCR and sequencing, in health-related water quality research were assessed by rigorous literature analysis. A wide range of application areas and study designs has been identified since the first application more than 30 years ago (>1,100 publications). Given the consistency of methods and assessment types, we suggest defining this emerging part of science as a new discipline: genetic faecal pollution diagnostics (GFPD) in health-related microbial water quality analysis. Undoubtedly, GFPD has already revolutionised faecal pollution detection and microbial source tracking, the current core applications. GFPD is also expanding to many other research areas, including infection and health risk assessment, evaluation of microbial water treatment, and support of wastewater surveillance. In addition, storage of DNA extracts allows for biobanking, which opens up new perspectives. The tools of GFPD can be combined with cultivation-based standardised faecal indicator enumeration, pathogen detection, and various environmental data types, in an integrated data analysis approach. This comprehensive meta-analysis provides the scientific status quo of this field, including trend analyses and literature statistics, outlining identified application areas, and discussing the benefits and challenges of nucleic acid-based analysis in GFPD

    Developing effective policy strategies to retain health workers in rural Bangladesh: a policy analysis

We reviewed relevant policies and provisions in relation to HRH aiming to develop appropriate rural retention strategies in Bangladesh. Methods: We conducted a document review, thorough search and review of relevant literature published from 1971 through May 2013, key informant interviews with policy elites (health policy makers, managers, researchers, etc.), and a roundtable discussion with key stakeholders and policy makers. We used the World Health Organization's (WHO's) guidelines as an analytical matrix to examine the rural retention policies under 4 domains, i) educational, ii) regulatory, iii) financial, and iv) professional and personal development, and 16 sub-domains. Results: Over the past four decades, Bangladesh has developed and implemented a number of health-related policies and provisions concerning retention of HRH. The district quota system in admissions is in practice to improve geographical representation of the students. Students of special background including children of freedom fighters and tribal population have allocated quotas. In private medical and nursing schools, at least 5% of seats are allocated for scholarships. Medical education has a provision for clinical rotation in rural health facilities. Further, in the public sector, every newly recruited medical doctor must serve at least 2 years at the upazila level. To encourage serving in hard-to-reach areas, particularly in three Hill Tract districts of Chittagong division, the government provides an additional 33% of the basic salary, but not exceeding US$ 38 per month. This amount is not attractive enough, and such provision is absent for those working in other rural areas. Although the government has career development and promotion plans for doctors and nurses, these plans are often not clearly specified and not implemented effectively. Conclusion: The government is committed to address the rural retention problem as shown through the formulation and implementation of related policies and strategies. However, Bangladesh needs more effective policies and provisions designed specifically for attraction, deployment, and retention of HRH in rural areas, and the execution of these policies and provisions must be monitored and evaluated effectivelyPublishe

    Global Distribution of Human-Associated Fecal Genetic Markers in Reference Samples from Six Continents

    Numerous bacterial genetic markers are available for the molecular detection of human sources of fecal pollution in environmental waters. However, widespread application is hindered by a lack of knowledge regarding geographical stability, limiting implementation to a small number of well-characterized regions. This study investigates the geographic distribution of five human-associated genetic markers (HF183/BFDrev, HF183/BacR287, BacHum-UCD, BacH, and Lachno2) in municipal wastewaters (raw and treated) from 29 urban and rural wastewater treatment plants (750-4»400»000 population equivalents) from 13 countries spanning six continents. In addition, genetic markers were tested against 280 human and nonhuman fecal samples from domesticated, agricultural and wild animal sources. Findings revealed that all genetic markers are present in consistently high concentrations in raw (median log10 7.2-8.0 marker equivalents (ME) 100 mL-1) and biologically treated wastewater samples (median log10 4.6-6.0 ME 100 mL-1) regardless of location and population. The false positive rates of the various markers in nonhuman fecal samples ranged from 5% to 47%. Results suggest that several genetic markers have considerable potential for measuring human-associated contamination in polluted environmental waters. This will be helpful in water quality monitoring, pollution modeling and health risk assessment (as demonstrated by QMRAcatch) to guide target-oriented water safety management across the globe.Fil: Mayer, René E..
