N.Gehrke as far back as in 1991 proposed that in pursuance of more teachers to take the role of leaders the systematic attitude to this question is necessary and provided arguments that it is needed to begin preparing students for the leadership at high school. These and other similar arguments encouraged to look at training of the leadership competencies at the high school with greater attention. Therefore, in this leadership publication the role of high schools in the process of training of the leadership competencies is reasoned, the problem of training of the leadership competencies at high school is revealed as well as the main strategies of training of the leadership competencies at high schools are surveyed

The Correlations Between Mentors‘ Leadership Competencies And The Functions Performed By The Mentors

Although it is acknowledged positive mentor’s influence to mentee’s development, but not many researches were done to find personal and professional qualities that makes mentor to perform his or her functions better. The lack of such researches encouraged to carry out the research and to determine if the mentor’s leadership competencies have an effect on performance of mentor’s functions, i.e. to determine the correlations between the mentor’s leadership competencies and the quality of mentor’s functions performed. It was determined average strong, statistically significant linear positive correlation between mentor’s leadership competences and the quality of mentor’s functions performed. This correlation means that if mentor has stronger leadership competences, he or she performs mentor‘s functions better

THE ASPECTS OF SHARED LEADERSHIP IN HEALTH CARE

Leadership is overwhelming the thinking of contemporary society. A well-functioning organization is first identified with its leader very often. Therefore, it is very important to question the attitude of leadership constantly, not to devalue it, but to understand it better and realize it. Moreover, the expression of leadership in different organizations is very distinct, and its specificity in areas such as health care is still insufficiently explored. Healthcare organizations hold strict hierarchy, therefore leadership is considered as equal to the administrative position. Modern conceptualizations such as transactional, shared, authentic and other leadership theories point to the educational power of a leadership; however, implementation remains challenging. The article presents the analytical-theoretical point of view and interpretive approach for case study about leadership. Firstly, the article introduces research evidence analysis of leadership educational impact for integrated health care system. Secondly, the traditional discourse of leadership is challenged with analysis of complex adaptive systems theory. The case study research was conducted with the purpose to identify the images of leadership among nursing staff and to recognize the needs for leadership education in the healthcare system. Case study results reveal the great need for leadership education in general and for shared leadership in particular

RELIGIOUSNESS AND SPIRITUALITY IN COPING WITH A DISABILITY OF THE RELATIVES: QUALITATIVE STUDY

The diagnosis of disability is always a critical and negative life event both for individual and family members. In many cases, this leads to complex psychological problems. The aim of this research was to add more understanding of the domain by using a interactional ethnographic approach to learn do (and how) spirituality and religion help individuals impacted by the relative person’s disability survive and cope successfully with their lives in spite of overwhelming despair. Interactional ethnographic approach was chosen for this research. The results revealed that spirituality and religion help in creating emotinal well-being, in finding and keeping hope. They help to make sence of disability and accept the disability. While participating in religious communities adds much to the emotional well-being and gives support from the community.

TMQ – Techniques, Methodologies and Quality – Special Number – Healthcare Quality

This special issue of TMQ Magazine is dedicated to Healthcare Quality. Healthcare quality is the promotion and provision of effective and safe care, reflected in a culture of excellence, resulting in the attainment of optimal or desired health. The aim of fostering the quality of healthcare is improving the experience of care, improving the health of populations, and reducing per capita costs of health care. Whereas worsening quality indicators of healthcare might shake public trust in the overall healthcare system, the quality of healthcare is receiving increasing attention from researchers. However, where exactly does healthcare quality begins and where does it ends? The routine of healthcare quality involves with professionals (their medical and soft competencies and education of those), patients (their needs, expectancies, and education), institutions (and their development), and regulatory agencies among the many parties regularly referring to it. Regarding to that the original articles in this issue deal with the following topics: Assessment of the quality of studies by the students of health sciences; Factors of psychosocial work environment and their impact on stress experienced by nurses; Blood donors’ opinion on nurse communication; Perception of causes of disease in patients with acute coronary syndrome on risk factors of cardiovascular disease; Women‘s Awareness about Epidural Anesthesia during Childbirth; and Nurses Role in Educating Self-Care After Hysteroscopy. Evidence suggests that the safety and quality of care in healthcare institutions can be recognizably improved by educating healthcare professionals and patients. Therefore, health research becomes essential, and the scientific evidence it generates can be put into use in everyday practice in order to improve healthcare quality. Thus, we thank all our Authors and Reviewers for their tremendous efforts and all the time they have spent in recent months to produce this issue. Their efforts highlight the importance of interdisciplinarity in researches of healthcare quality and confirm that quality should become an academic and scientific issue with its own educational content and research

Review article: a comparison of glucagon-like peptides 1 and 2.

    Get PDF
BACKGROUND: Recent advancements in understanding the roles and functions of glucagon-like peptide 1 (GLP-1) and 2 (GLP-2) have provided a basis for targeting these peptides in therapeutic strategies. AIM: To summarise the preclinical and clinical research supporting the discovery of new therapeutic molecules targeting GLP-1 and GLP-2. METHODS: This review is based on a comprehensive PubMed search, representing literature published during the past 30 years related to GLP-1 and GLP-2. RESULTS: Although produced and secreted together primarily from L cells of the intestine in response to ingestion of nutrients, GLP-1 and GLP-2 exhibit distinctive biological functions that are governed by the expression of their respective receptors, GLP-1R and GLP-2R. Through widespread expression in the pancreas, intestine, nervous tissue, et cetera, GLP-1Rs facilitates an incretin effect along with effects on appetite and satiety. GLP-1 analogues resistant to degradation by dipeptidyl peptidase-IV and inhibitors of dipeptidyl peptidase-IV have been developed to aid treatment of diabetes and obesity. The GLP-2R is expressed almost exclusively in the stomach and bowel. The most apparent role for GLP-2 is its promotion of growth and function of intestinal mucosa, which has been targeted for therapies that promote repair and adaptive growth. These are used as treatments for intestinal failure and related conditions. CONCLUSIONS: Our growing understanding of the biology and function of GLP-1, GLP-2 and corresponding receptors has fostered further discovery of fundamental biological function as well as new categories of potent therapeutic medicines
