    Get PDF
International audienceThis paper describes an OMAP based real-time test bench to find the Pareto frontier of an H.264/SVC decoder within a distortion-energy optimization space. A metric to estimate video distortion is introduced. In addition, energy consumption estimates are obtained from real-time measurements of the computational load. Finally, test bench operation is successfully demonstrated with different H.264/SVC-compliant sets of sequences

    Get PDF
International audienceIn this paper, the implementation of a DSP-based video decoder compliant with the H.264/SVC standard (14496-10 Annex G) is presented. A PC-based decoder implementation has been ported to a commercial DSP. Performance optimizations have been carried out improving the initial version performance about 40% and reaching real time for CIF sequences. Moreover, the performance has been characterized using H.264/SVC sequences with different kinds of scalabilities and different bitrates. This decoder will be the core of a multimedia terminal that will trade off energy against quality of experience

The lowest triplet state 3A′ of H3 +: Global potential energy surface and vibrational calculations

    Get PDF
The adiabatic global potential energy surface of the H3 + system for the lowest triplet excited state of A ' symmetry was computed for an extensive grid of conformations around the minimum region at full configuration interaction ab initia level, using a much more extended basis set than in a previous paper from the same authors. An accurate global fit (rms error lower than 27 cm-1 for energies lower than dissociation into separated atoms and lower than 5 cm-1 for energies lower than the dissociation channel) to these ab initio points and also to part of the previous.calculated points (for a total of 7689 energies in the data set) of the lowest triplet excited state of A′ symmetry is obtained using a diatomics-in-molecules approach corrected by one symmetrized three-body term with a total of 109 linear parameters and 1 nonlinear parameter. This produces an accurate global potential which represents all aspects of the bound triplet excited state of H3 + including the minima and dissociation limits, satisfying the correct symmetry properties of the system. The vibrational eigenstates have been calculated using hyperspherical coordinates with symmetry adapted basis functions with the proper regular behavior at the Eckart singularities. .The accuracy of: the vibrational levels thus obtained is expected to be better than 2 cm-1 with respect to unknown experimental values. Due to the presence of three equivalent minima at collinear geometries (D∝h) the lower vibrational levels are close to triple degenerate. Since the .interconversion barrier between the three minima is about 2640 cm-1, these states split for the upper excited vibrational levels. Such splitting can provide a key feature to identifying the unassigned transitions amongst the many H3 + lines that have been observed in hydrogen plasmas. © 2007 American Institute of Physics.

Once a safe movement within the environment has been assured for a humanoid robot, the capability to drag and move objects becomes essential for a correct interaction within the objects of this environment. In order to accomplish this objective the incorporation of a hand that allows to grip these objects in an effective manner, adapting to the objectives shape. Nevertheless, as the manipulation of objects is a complex task, a device with several additional degrees of freedom than the actual robot is required for finesse. TEO, a humanoid robot in development by the Carlos III University, incorporates an underactuated hand, which enables to grasp objects through a six degrees of freedom mechanism, but just using one actuator. This provides an easy control of the hand, ensuring a reliable grip. In this Final Bachelor Project, electronics and software have been designed to achieve a correct operation of the underactuated hand through the already implemented architecture of robot TEO. As well, the present document collects the design decisions taken and tests performed in order to obtain a proper device operation .Ingeniería en Tecnologías Industriale

    Get PDF

Effectiveness of median nerve neural mobilization versus oral ibuprofen treatment in subjects who suffer from cervicobrachial pain: a randomized clinical trial

    Get PDF
9 p.Oral ibuprofen (OI) and median nerve neural mobilization (MNNM) are first line treatments for patients who suffer cervicobrachial pain (CP). OI may produce side effects which are not tolerated by all subjects who suffer CP, whereas MNNM has no known side effects. Therefore, the aim of this study was to assess the effectiveness of both treatments (OI vs. MNNM) in CP. Material and methods: This investigation was a blinded parallel randomized clinical trial (NCT02593721). Sixty-two participants diagnosed with CP were recruited and randomly assigned to 2 groups (n = 31), which received MNNM or 1200 mg/day OI treatment for 6 weeks. The numeric rating scale for pain intensity was the primary outcome. The cervical rotation range of motion (CROM) and the upper limb function were the secondary outcomes. Results: The results showed that OI treatment (η2 = 0.612–0.755) was clearly superior to MNNM (η2 = 0.816–0.821) in all assessments (p 0.05). Three subjects were discharged because of OI side effects. Conclusions: Oral ibuprofen may be superior to MNNM for pain reduction and upper limb function increase of subjects with CP. Nevertheless, both treatments were effective. Median nerve neural mobilization may be considered an effective non-pharmaceutical treatment option in subjects with CP. Regarding OI adverse effects, our findings challenge the role of pharmacologic versus manual therapy as possible treatments that may improve pain intensity and upper limb functionality in subjects with CP.

    Get PDF
