Laminosioptes cysticola and Gallibacterium anatis infections in a lymphoma diseased chicken hen with a cystic right oviduct
A domestic hen showing infraorbital swelling was presented for a routine classroom demonstration of avian diagnostics. At necropsy, tiny whitish caseo-calcareous nodules were found in the subcutaneous tissues of the carcass, produced by the subcutaneous fowl mite, Laminosioptes cysticola. Gallibacterium anatis biovar haemolytica was isolated from the infraorbital sinus, it containing a caseous exudate. During necropsy, a conspicuous cyst was found in the abdominal cavity. Microscopic examination of the internal lining of the cyst revealed a single cuboidal to columnar, ciliated epithelium, leading to a diagnosis of oviductal cyst. Also, the microscopic examination of the heart, lung, liver and kidney reveal a multifocal infiltration of lymphoma cells. It appears the first case of simultaneous presentation of these conditions from a single chicken

Extending magny-cours cache coherence
One cost-effective way to meet the increasing demand for larger high-performance shared-memory servers is to build clusters with off-the-shelf processors connected with low-latency point-to-point interconnections like HyperTransport. Unfortunately, HyperTransport addressing limitations prevent building systems with more than eight nodes. While the recent High-Node Count HyperTransport specification overcomes this limitation, recently launched twelve-core Magny-Cours processors have already inherited it and provide only 3 bits to encode the pointers used by the directory cache which they include to increase the scalability of their coherence protocol. In this work, we propose and develop an external device to extend the coherence domain of Magny-Cours processors beyond the 8-node limit while maintaining the advantages provided by the directory cache. Evaluation results for systems with up to 32 nodes show that the performance offered by our solution scales with the number of nodes, enhancing the directory cache effectiveness by filtering additional messages. Particularly, we reduce execution time by 47 percent in a 32-die system with respect to the 8-die Magny-Cours configuration. This work was supported by the Spanish MICINN, Consolider Programme and Plan E funds, as well as European Commission FEDER funds, under Grants CSD2006-00046 and TIN2009-14475-C04-01/03. LanderPick, a Remote Operated Trawled Vehicle to cost-effectively deploy and recover lightweight oceanographic landers.
Landers are modular structures equipped with miscellaneous sensors and monitoring equipment which are positioned directly on the seabed to operate autonomously for a defined timeframe. A drawback of landers intended to operate for prolonged periods in the deep ocean is the high cost of recovery systems, typically depending on buoyancy modules plus expendable ballast, or requiring ROVs assistance. LanderPick concept consists of the design of a specific trawled vehicle to deploy and recover lightweight oceanographic landers not provided with recovery elements, but having a capture mesh that facilitates their hitching. The LanderPick vehicle is technically a ROTV (Remote Operated Trawled Vehicle) controlled through a standard coaxial electromechanical cable that allows real-time control from the vessel. Navigation is enabled by a low-light high-definition camera, aided by spotlights and laser pointers. Small propellers aid in the final precision approach maneuvers. A mechanical release allows the precise placement at the sea bottom of landers carried as a payload, as well as their recovery by means of a triple hook. First sea missions of the system were carried out successfully in 2021 in southern Biscay. A 4-month deployment of a lander array equipped with current-meters along an energetic canyon axis provided unprecedented detail in the progression of the internal tidal bore. Short (48-hours) deployments of a fully-instrumented lander, including lapse-time image and baits in a deep seamount summit within a marine protected area, provided insights on the biodiversity of a unique ecosystem. The LanderPick novel approach to cost-effectively and precisely deploy and recover lightweight oceanographic landers allows to conceive (i) monitoring systems based on the deployment of arrays or fleets of low-cost landers and (ii) experiments associated with deep habitats such as coral reefs in which it is necessary to locate landers with great precision
suggesting a seismic origin (Earthquake Archaeological Effects: EAEs). The proposed seismic event could be
tentatively dated in the late 3rd century AD, coinciding with the beginning of the economic fall of the Roman Empire at
Iberia. However, some of the recorded EAEs can be also interpreted as a result of intervening slope movements in the
eastern hillslope of this roman site. The inventory and analysis of the proposed EAEs make possible to discern between
seismic oriented damage and other causes. In spite of the data show a significant dispersion, their analysis result in two
different orientations of maximum deformation (ey) or preferential ground movement: NNW-SSE and ENE-WSW. The
main ey orientation (NNW-SSE) can be tentatively related to a seismic event occurred in the environs of the northern
border of the Guadalquivir Depression. The secondary orientation (ENE-WSW) can be interpreted as a consequence of
latter slope movements triggered (or not) by other ancient earthquakes

Castillomys rivas rivas, Elíomys intermedius, Equus altidens y Capra sp. aff. C.
The Quaternary karstic site of Sierra de Quibas (Abanilla, Murcia, Spain) has provided
a wide faunallist with 53 species distributed among gastropods, myriapods, amphibians,
reptiles, birds and mammals. Especially interesting among the gastropods is
Palaeoglandina that became extinct in Europe during the Pliocene. It remains as a relict
genus in the Pleistocene of the Iberian Peninsula. Two of the birds, Gypaetus barbatus
and Geronticus eremita, and a snake, Elaphe cf. E. sealaris, are scarcely represented in the fossil record. For several birds, it is the first record in the Lower Pleistocene of the
Iberian Peninsula. Among the mammals, the presence of the Cercopithecine Macaca sylvanus
is especially relevant. The assemblage of the taxa Arvicola deucalion, Castillomys
rivas rivas, Eliomys intermedius, Equus altidens and Capra sp. aff. C. alba allows the
correlation with Plines 1, Orce 3 and Venta Micena, among other sites. Therefore Quibas
can be clated before the end of Lower Pleistocene, between 1.3 and 1 Ma. A dry paleoclimatic
regime, very similar to the current climate in the geographical area, though perhaps
slightly wetter and warmer, can be inferred from the faunal assemblage. The environment
of the karstic cavity was a rocky place with open brushwood areas, but in the
proximities there were wetlands and woodlands, as can be inferred from the presence of
birds and micromammals characteristic of these [email protected] [email protected]
