The highest concentration of Palaeolithic sites known in the Iberian Peninsula is located in the lower stretches of the Manzanares and Jarama rivers. This area, together with a number of zones in the Tagus valley, constitutes one of the most important archives for the knowledge of the European Pleistocene. The purpose of this paper is to establish the chronological frame and the technological strategies implemented in manufacturing lithic tools during the Acheulean techno-complex in the middle stretch of the Tagus basin. Use of large flakes for making bifaces is common in the Acheulean assemblages from this area, as well as in the rest of the Iberian Peninsula and the south of France. The earliest Acheulean evidence has been dated to between MIS 15 and MIS 13. From MIS 11/MIS 9 on, this techno-complex is widespread in the region, until MIS 6, when the last evidence has been recorded. Handaxes, cleavers on flake and trihedral picks dominate in the châines opèratoires of façonnage, which are present in significant percentages. Short ch^aines opèratoires of débitage prevail in quartzite, and discoid and polyhedric in flint. Most retouched tools are seldom elaborate. Lithic assemblages with ch^aines opératoires of façonnage exclusively represented by handaxes start to be recorded towards the end of the Middle Pleistocene. These handaxes are more elaborate than previous and the retouched tolos are more complex. Among the activities identified in the sites excavated in overbank facies, exploitation of large mammals, particularly proboscideans, is outstanding, as well as the manufacture of lithic tools and the exploitation of primary flint outcrops. The recording of long recurrent settlements on the same location is remarkable

The statistics of landing of fresh and chilled fish in Yarinacocha lake during the period 2015 to 2019 were analysed, considering: total landings and landings by species (in metric tons - t), fishing gear, fishing locations and number of trips. The catch per unit effort (CPUE) was expressed in t * fishing trip-1. The results indicate that landings were relatively higher in 2016 (815 t), although without significant differences between years. The monthly landings showed significant differences mainly between the months of “high waters” (January-April) with months of “low waters” (July-August), which confirms the influence of river levels, where landings increase in low waters (July-September) and decrease in high waters (January-March). In landings by trophic category, detritivores dominated in “high waters” and omnivores in “low waters”. Species of the orders Siluriformes and Characiformes were dominant, especially Pterygoplichthys spp "carachama" and Prochilodus nigricans "boquichico". The most important fishing gears for their contribution to landing were gillnets and purse seines, while hooks also stood out due to the frequency of use.

This paper is structured around two strategic blocks (introduction and closing) and two thematic blocks (slums and neighborhoods; creativity and research) on which PAIDI HUM-958 IN-GENTES (Research in generating of territories) research group investigations have been organized and managed. The first section specifies the strategic phases that the group has experienced since its creation in 2007 until today. This will then be used as the basis for explicit the research carried out in two fields that emerge with a greater presence and continuity. On the one hand, research focused on the issues we have termed “slums and neighborhoods”. The majority of the projects financed; department courses, which have had a strong research component (elective subject of “Fundamentals of inhabit”, belonging to Plan 98, or “Architecture and Sustainability” in Plan 2010); teaching in master and the common parent research line to all of them have been structured around this issue. On the other hand, “creativity and research”, which includes doctoral theses defended, the majority of the parallel research for the initial projects courses and teaching in doctoral program

Differential clinicopathological and molecular features within late-onset colorectal cancer according to tumor location

Background: Since there is a predilection of some clinical and molecular features for a given tumor location, we assessed whether this can be confirmed in late-onset colorectal cancer (LOCRC). Results: Right colon cancers showed features associated with sporadic Microsatellite Instability: predominance of female cases and BRAF mutations, and an important mucinous component. Left colon cancers developed a higher number of polyps and multiple primary CRCs, showed the strongest familial component, and had better prognosis. Rectal cancers showed a predominantly sporadic phenotype, with worse prognosis and a CpG Island Methylator Phenotype (CIMP)-High. No copy number alterations (CNAs) greater than or equal to 50% were observed in this LOCRC group, and the most recurrent alterations were losses at 5q13 and 14q11, and gains at 7q11, 7q21-q22, 19p13-p12, 19q13 and 20p11-q11. KRAS and PIK3CA were the only mutated genes showing differences according to the tumor location, mainly for right colon cancers. Materials and Methods: We analyzed clinical and molecular characteristics of LOCRC at different tumor locations in order to determine if there are differential phenotypes related with the location in the colon. Conclusions: Categorizing LOCRC according to tumor location appears to be an adequate first step to resolving the heterogeneity of this subset of CRCThis work was funded by Projects PI10/0683, PI13/01741, PI13/0127 and PI14/00459 from the Spanish Ministry of Health and Consumer Affairs and FEDER, and was approved by the Ethics Committee of our Institutio

Objectives To evaluate effectiveness and safety of certolizumab pegol (CZP) in uveitis due to immune-mediated inflammatory diseases (IMID). Methods Multicentre study of CZP-treated patients with IMID uveitis refractory to conventional immunosuppressant. Effectiveness was assessed through the following ocular parameters: best-corrected visual acuity, anterior chamber cells, vitritis, macular thickness and retinal vasculitis. These variables were compared between the baseline, and first week, first, third, sixth months, first and second year. Results We studied 80 (33 men/47 women) patients (111 affected eyes) with a mean age of 41.6±11.7 years. The IMID included were: spondyloarthritis (n=43), Behçet's disease (n=10), psoriatic arthritis (n=8), Crohn's disease (n=4), sarcoidosis (n=2), juvenile idiopathic arthritis (n=1), reactive arthritis (n=1), rheumatoid arthritis (n=1), relapsing polychondritis (n=1), Conclusions CZP seems to be effective and safe in uveitis related to different IMID, even in patients refractory to previous biological drugs

Objective: Copy number variants (CNVs) have been associated with the risk to develop multiple autoimmune diseases. Our objective was to identify CNVs associated with the risk to develop psoriatic arthritis (PsA) using a genome-wide analysis approach. Methods: A total of 835 patients with PsA and 1498 healthy controls were genotyped for CNVs using the Illumina HumanHap610 BeadChip genotyping platform. Genomic CNVs were characterised using CNstream analysis software and analysed for association using the χ2 test. The most significant genomic CNV associations with PsA risk were independently tested in a validation sample of 1133 patients with PsA and 1831 healthy controls. In order to test for the specificity of the variants with PsA aetiology, we also analysed the association to a cohort of 822 patients with purely cutaneous psoriasis (PsC). Results: A total of 165 common CNVs were identified in the genome-wide analysis. We found a highly significant association of an intergenic deletion between ADAMTS9 and MAGI1 genes on chromosome 3p14.1 (p=0.00014). Using the independent patient and control cohort, we validated the association between ADAMTS9-MAGI1 deletion and PsA risk (p=0.032). Using next-generation sequencing, we characterised the 26 kb associated deletion. Finally, analysing the PsC cohort we found a lower frequency of the deletion compared with the PsA cohort (p=0.0088) and a similar frequency to that of healthy controls (p>0.3). Conclusions: The present genome-wide scan for CNVs associated with PsA risk has identified a new deletion associated with disease risk and which is also differential from PsC risk

To assess severity markers and outcomes of patients with systemic sclerosis (SSc) with or without pulmonary arterial hypertension (PAH-SSc/non-PAH-SSc), and the impact of interstitial lung disease (ILD) on PAH-SSc. Non-PAH-SSc patients from the Spanish SSc registry and PAH-SSc patients from the Spanish PAH registry were included. A total of 364 PAH-SSc and 1589 non-PAH-SSc patients were included. PAH-SSc patients had worse NYHA-functional class (NYHA-FC), worse forced vital capacity (FVC) (81.2 ± 20.6% vs 93.6 ± 20.6%, P < 0.001), worse tricuspid annular plane systolic excursion (TAPSE) (17.4 ± 5.2 mm vs 19.9 ± 6.7 mm, P < 0.001), higher incidence of pericardial effusion (30% vs 5.2%, P < 0.001) and similar prevalence of ILD (41.8% vs. 44.9%). In individuals with PAH-SSc, ILD was associated with worse hemodynamics and pulmonary function tests (PFT). Up-front combination therapy was used in 59.8% and 61.7% of patients with and without ILD, respectively. Five-year transplant-free survival rate was 41.1% in PAH-SSc patients and 93.9% in non-PAH-SSc patients (P < 0.001). Global survival of PAH-SSc patients was not affected by ILD regardless its severity. The multivariate survival analysis in PAH-SSc patients confirmed age at diagnosis, worse NYHA-FC, increased PVR, reduced DLCO, and lower management with up-front combination therapy as major risk factors. In conclusion, in PAH-SSc cohort risk of death was greatly increased by clinical, PFT, and hemodynamic factors, whereas it was decreased by up-front combination therapy. Concomitant ILD worsened hemodynamics and PFT in PAH-SSc but not survival regardless of FVC impairment

Objectives: Systemic sclerosis (SSc) and rheumatoid arthritis (RA) are autoimmune diseases that share clinical and immunological characteristics. To date, several shared SSc- RA loci have been identified independently. In this study, we aimed to systematically search for new common SSc-RA loci through an inter-disease meta-GWAS strategy. Methods: We performed a meta-analysis combining GWAS datasets of SSc and RA using a strategy that allowed identification of loci with both same-direction and opposingdirection allelic effects. The top single-nucleotide polymorphisms (SNPs) were followed-up in independent SSc and RA case-control cohorts. This allowed us to increase the sample size to a total of 8,830 SSc patients, 16,870 RA patients and 43,393 controls. Results: The cross-disease meta-analysis of the GWAS datasets identified several loci with nominal association signals (P-value < 5 x 10-6), which also showed evidence of association in the disease-specific GWAS scan. These loci included several genomic regions not previously reported as shared loci, besides risk factors associated with both diseases in previous studies. The follow-up of the putatively new SSc-RA loci identified IRF4 as a shared risk factor for these two diseases (Pcombined = 3.29 x 10-12). In addition, the analysis of the biological relevance of the known SSc-RA shared loci pointed to the type I interferon and the interleukin 12 signaling pathways as the main common etiopathogenic factors. Conclusions: Our study has identified a novel shared locus, IRF4, for SSc and RA and highlighted the usefulness of cross-disease GWAS meta-analysis in the identification of common risk loci

Sustentabilidad y tecnología. Herramientas para la gestión segura y eficiente del hábitat

    Get PDF
