Further evidence to justify reassignment of Mycoplasma mycoides subspecies mycoides Large Colony type to Mycoplasma mycoides subspecies capri
Analysis, using the polymerase chain reaction (PCR), restriction enzyme endonuclease analysis (REA), protein profile patterns, random amplification of polymorphic DNA (RAPD) fingerprinting, 16S rRNA gene sequencing and antisera growth inhibition tests, of 22 strains of Mycoplasma mycoides subsp. mycoides Large Colony type (MmmLC) and eight strains of M. mycoides subsp. capri (Mmc) are presented, along with a summary of comparative data from the literature for over 100 strains, all of which supports the reclassification of the MmmLC and Mmc strains into the single subspecies, M. mycoides subspecies capri
Dispersion and spin wave "tunneling" in nano-structured magnetostatic spin waveguides
Magnetostatic spin wave dispersion and loss are measured in micron scale spin
wave-guides in ferromagnetic, metallic CoTaZr. Results are in good agreement
with model calculations of spin wave dispersion. The measured attenuation
lengths, of the order of 3um, are several of orders of magnitude shorter than
that predicted from eddy currents in these thin wires. Spin waves effectively
"tunnel" through air gaps, produced by focused ion beam etching, as large as

Challenges and opportunities in achieving sustainable mud crab aquaculture in tropical coastal regions
Aquaculture plays a significant role in food security and provides livelihoods and employment for millions of people among coastal communities worldwide. However, the growing aquaculture sector has also created debates around its long-term ecological sustainability, economic viability, potential social inequalities and governance issues. We investigated the perceived challenges and opportunities to achieving sustainable mud crab aquaculture in tropical coastal regions by using the case study of coastal mud crab farms in Andhra Pradesh, India. Informed by perceptions and indicative financial data from a sample of stakeholders we investigated the potential economic outcomes under different scenarios representing varying yield levels, risk factors and project time periods. The main risks identified by the stakeholders were associated with the limited supply of mud crab seeds and the lack of access to governmental and non-governmental support schemes. There are no financial buffers, therefore major disease outbreaks or extreme weather conditions caused by climate change would lead to a loss of livelihoods. This paper also highlights the most critical factor determining the level of success of mud crab farming being the crab survival rate which is influenced by a variety of factors including increasing sea surface temperature. The results of this study show that small-scale mud crab farming has fewer risks and higher flexibility involved than large-scale mud crab farming. It could be an economically sustainable enterprise and serve as a tool for poverty alleviation in developing countries if microfinance support and training are available

Multi-level Dynamical Systems: Connecting the Ruelle Response Theory and the Mori-Zwanzig Approach
In this paper we consider the problem of deriving approximate autonomous
dynamics for a number of variables of a dynamical system, which are weakly
coupled to the remaining variables. In a previous paper we have used the Ruelle
response theory on such a weakly coupled system to construct a surrogate
dynamics, such that the expectation value of any observable agrees, up to
second order in the coupling strength, to its expectation evaluated on the full
dynamics. We show here that such surrogate dynamics agree up to second order to
an expansion of the Mori-Zwanzig projected dynamics. This implies that the
parametrizations of unresolved processes suited for prediction and for the
representation of long term statistical properties are closely related, if one
takes into account, in addition to the widely adopted stochastic forcing, the

A forest typology for monitoring sustainable forest management: The case of European Forest Types
Sustainable forest management (SFM) is presently widely accepted as the overriding objective for forest policy and practice.
Regional processes are in progress all over the world to develop and implement criteria and indicators of SFM. In continental
Europe, a set of 35 Pan-European indicators has been endorsed under the Ministerial Conference on the Protection of
Forests in Europe (MCPFE) to measure progress towards SFM in the 44 countries of the region. The formulation of seven
indicators (forest area, growing stock, age structure/diameter distribution, deadwood, tree species composition, damaging
agents, naturalness) requires national data to be reported by forest types. Within the vast European forest area the values
taken by these indicators show a considerable range of variation, due to variable natural conditions and anthropogenic
influences. Given this variability, it is very difficult to grasp the meaning of these indicators when taken out of their ecological
background. The paper discusses the concepts behind, and the requirements of, a classification more soundly ecologically
framed and suitable for MCPFE reporting than the three (un-informative) classes adopted so far: broadleaved forest,
coniferous forest, mixed broadleaved and coniferous forest. We propose a European Forest Types scheme structured into a
reasonably higher number of classes, that would improve the specificity of the indicators reported under the MCPFE process

The vertical cloud structure of the West African monsoon: a 4 year climatology using CloudSat and CALIPSO
The West African summer monsoon (WAM) is an important driver of the global climate and locally provides most of the annual rainfall. A solid climatological knowledge of the complex vertical cloud structure is invaluable to forecasters and modelers to improve the understanding of the WAM. In this paper, 4 years of data from the CloudSat profiling radar and CALIPSO are used to create a composite zonal mean vertical cloud and precipitation structure for the WAM. For the first time, the near-coincident vertical radar and lidar profiles allow for the identification of individual cloud types from optically thin cirrus and shallow cumulus to congestus and deep convection. A clear diurnal signal in zonal mean cloud structure is observed for the WAM, with deep convective activity enhanced at night producing extensive anvil and cirrus, while daytime observations show more shallow cloud and congestus. A layer of altocumulus is frequently observed over the Sahara at night and day, extending southward to the coastline, and the majority of this cloud is shown to contain supercooled liquid in the top. The occurrence of deep convective systems and congestus in relation to the position of the African easterly jet is studied, but only the daytime cumulonimbus distribution indicates some influence of the jet position
Work characteristics and employee outcomes in local government
The overall objective of this study was to examine the work characteristics that make significant contributions to extra-role performance (as measured by the helping dimension of citizenship behaviour) and employee wellbeing (measured by job satisfaction and psychological health) in a local government. The work characteristics examined were based on the demand-control-support (DCS) model, augmented by organization-specific characteristics. The results indicate that characteristics described in the core DCS are just as relevant to extra-role performance as they are to more traditional indicators of job stress. Although the more situation-specific conditions were not predictive of citizenship behaviour, they made unique contributions to job satisfaction<br /
The International Surface Pressure Databank version 2
The International Surface Pressure Databank (ISPD) is the world's largest collection of global surface and sea-level pressure observations. It was developed by extracting observations from established international archives, through international cooperation with data recovery facilitated by the Atmospheric Circulation Reconstructions over the Earth (ACRE) initiative, and directly by contributing universities, organizations, and countries. The dataset period is currently 1768–2012 and consists of three data components: observations from land stations, marine observing systems, and tropical cyclone best track pressure reports. Version 2 of the ISPD (ISPDv2) was created to be observational input for the Twentieth Century Reanalysis Project (20CR) and contains the quality control and assimilation feedback metadata from the 20CR. Since then, it has been used for various general climate and weather studies, and an updated version 3 (ISPDv3) has been used in the ERA-20C reanalysis in connection with the European Reanalysis of Global Climate Observations project (ERA-CLIM). The focus of this paper is on the ISPDv2 and the inclusion of the 20CR feedback metadata. The Research Data Archive at the National Center for Atmospheric Research provides data collection and access for the ISPDv2, and will provide access to future versions
