    The first observation of the decay Bˉs0→D0K∗0\bar{B}^0_s \to D^0 K^{*0} using pppp data collected by the LHCb detector at a centre-of-mass energy of 7 TeV, corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 36 pb−1^{-1}, is reported. A signal of 34.4±6.834.4 \pm 6.8 events is obtained and the absence of signal is rejected with a statistical significance of more than nine standard deviations. The Bˉs0→D0K∗0\bar{B}^0_s \to D^0 K^{*0} branching fraction is measured relative to that of Bˉ0→D0ρ0\bar{B}^0 \to D^0 \rho^0: B(Bˉs0→D0K∗0)B(Bˉ0→D0ρ0)=1.48±0.34±0.15±0.12\frac{{\cal B}(\bar{B}^0_s \to D^0 K^{*0})}{{\cal B}(\bar{B}^0 \to D^0 \rho^0)} = 1.48 \pm 0.34 \pm 0.15 \pm 0.12, where the first uncertainty is statistical, the second systematic and the third is due to the uncertainty on the ratio of the B0B^0 and Bs0B^0_s hadronisation fractions.Comment: 10 pages, 3 figures, submitted to Phys. Resumo Esta pesquisa trata da composição e da ocorrĂȘncia de espĂ©cies de macrĂłfitas aquĂĄticas em ĂĄrea de proteção ambiental e ĂĄreas nĂŁo protegidas, que compĂ”em o conjunto de lagos do Vale do Rio Doce em Minas Gerais, terceiro maior sistema lacustre brasileiro. As informaçÔes foram levantadas a partir de publicaçÔes, material depositado em herbĂĄrios e coletas botĂąnicas entre os anos de 2007 e 2010, em ambientes aquĂĄticos localizados no Parque Estadual do Rio Doce (PERD) e zona de amortecimento. Foram registradas 184 espĂ©cies pertencentes a distintos grupos taxonĂŽmicos, hĂĄbitos e formas biolĂłgicas, sendo aqui proposta a criação de uma nova categoria destas, designada embalsada, para contemplar plantas que se estabelecem em ilhas flutuantes. A pesquisa contribuiu com 152 novas citaçÔes para o Vale do Rio Doce em Minas Gerais, com dois primeiros registros nesse estado e com a descrição de uma espĂ©cie inĂ©dita para a ciĂȘncia. A similaridade florĂstica entre ĂĄreas protegidas e nĂŁo protegidas indicou que o PERD guarda 74% das espĂ©cies de macrĂłfitas aquĂĄticas encontradas. Entretanto, 26% do total de espĂ©cies estĂŁo desprotegidas, pois nĂŁo ocorrem nessa unidade de conservação

    A search for the decay B+→K+ΜΜˉB^+ \to K^+ \nu \bar{\nu}

    We search for the rare flavor-changing neutral-current decay B+→K+ΜΜˉB^+ \to K^+ \nu \bar{\nu} in a data sample of 82 fb−1^{-1} collected with the {\sl BABAR} detector at the PEP-II B-factory. Signal events are selected by examining the properties of the system recoiling against either a reconstructed hadronic or semileptonic charged-B decay. Using these two independent samples we obtain a combined limit of B(B+→K+ΜΜˉ)<5.2×10−5{\mathcal B}(B^+ \to K^+ \nu \bar{\nu})<5.2 \times 10^{-5} at the 90% confidence level. In addition, by selecting for pions rather than kaons, we obtain a limit of B(B+→π+ΜΜˉ)<1.0×10−4{\mathcal B}(B^+ \to \pi^+ \nu \bar{\nu})<1.0 \times 10^{-4} using only the hadronic B reconstruction method.Comment: 7 pages, 8 postscript figures, submitted to Phys. High-reflectivity broadband distributed Bragg reflector lattice matched to ZnTe

    Full text link
    We report on the realization of a high quality distributed Bragg reflector with both high and low refractive index layers lattice matched to ZnTe. Our structure is grown by molecular beam epitaxy and is based on binary compounds only. The high refractive index layer is made of ZnTe, while the low index material is made of a short period triple superlattice containing MgSe, MgTe, and ZnTe. The high refractive index step of Delta_n=0.5 in the structure results in a broad stopband and the reflectivity coefficient exceeding 99% for only 15 Bragg pairs.Comment: 4 pages, 3 figure

    Prompt K_short production in pp collisions at sqrt(s)=0.9 TeV

    Get PDF
    The production of K_short mesons in pp collisions at a centre-of-mass energy of 0.9 TeV is studied with the LHCb detector at the Large Hadron Collider. The luminosity of the analysed sample is determined using a novel technique, involving measurements of the beam currents, sizes and positions, and is found to be 6.8 +/- 1.0 microbarn^-1. The differential prompt K_short production cross-section is measured as a function of the K_short transverse momentum and rapidity in the region 0 < pT < 1.6 GeV/c and 2.5 < y < 4.0. The data are found to be in reasonable agreement with previous measurements and generator expectations.Comment: 6+18 pages, 6 figures, updated author lis

    EuFe2_2As2_2 under high pressure: an antiferromagnetic bulk superconductor

    We report the ac magnetic susceptibility χac\chi_{ac} and resistivity ρ\rho measurements of EuFe2_2As2_2 under high pressure PP. By observing nearly 100% superconducting shielding and zero resistivity at PP = 28 kbar, we establish that PP-induced superconductivity occurs at Tc∌T_c \sim~30 K in EuFe2_2As2_2. ρ\rho shows an anomalous nearly linear temperature dependence from room temperature down to TcT_c at the same PP. χac\chi_{ac} indicates that an antiferromagnetic order of Eu2+^{2+} moments with TN∌T_N \sim~20 K persists in the superconducting phase. The temperature dependence of the upper critical field is also determined.Comment: To appear in J. Phys. Soc. Jpn., Vol. 78 No.

    Measurement of the electron energy spectrum and its moments in inclusive B -> Xe nu decays

    We report a measurement of the inclusive electron energy spectrum for semileptonic decays of B mesons in a data sample of 52 million Y(4S)-->B(B) over bar decays collected with the BABAR detector at the PEP-II asymmetric-energy B-meson factory at SLAC. We determine the branching fraction, first, second, and third moments of the spectrum for lower cutoffs on the electron energy between 0.6 and 1.5 GeV. We measure the partial branching fraction to be B(B-->Xenu,E-e>0.6 GeV)=[10.36+/-0.06(stat.)+/-0.23(sys.)]%

    Improved measurement of CP asymmetries in B-0 ->(c(c)over-bar)K0((*)) decays

    Get PDF
    We present results on time-dependent CP asymmetries in neutral B decays to several CP eigenstates. The measurements use a data sample of about 227x10(6) Upsilon(4S)-> B (B) over bar decays collected by the BABAR detector at the PEP-II asymmetric-energy B Factory at SLAC. The amplitude of the CPasymmetry, sin2 beta in the standard model, is derived from decay-time distributions from events in which one neutral B meson is fully reconstructed in a final state containing a charmonium meson and the other B meson is determined to be either a B-0 or (0) from its decay products. We measure sin2 beta=0.722 +/- 0.040(stat)+/- 0.023(syst) in agreement with the standard model expectation
