National identification as a function of perceived social control: A subjective group dynamics analysis

Based on subjective group dynamics theory (SGDT; e.g., Marques, Paez, & Abrams, 1998), we examine the effects of a group’s ability to effectively control its deviant members on participants’ ingroup identification. In Studies 1 and 2 (N = 79 and N = 173) participants were informed that the ingroup (vs. outgroup) dealt with deviant occurrences in an effective (vs. ineffective) way. As predicted, induced ingroup effectiveness generated higher ingroup identification, trust in the ingroup’s social control system, and more positive emotional climate, whereas induced ingroup ineffectiveness generated more negative emotional climate or anomie and weaker ingroup identification as compared to outgroup conditions. In Study 3 (N = 115), perceived ingroup effectiveness predicted ingroup identification, via emotional climate, ingroup anomie, confidence in the group’s social control system, and ingroup emotions. We discuss the results in light of SGDT and the role of perceived ingroup social control in promoting ingroup identification.This work is part of project EXCL/MHCPSO/ 0800/2012, which was supported by the Portuguese Foundation for Science and Technology (FCT). Este trabajo presenta una extensión a un modelo de eventos discretos para el diseño de simuladores de Sistemas de Tiempo Real con tareas periódicas, incorporando tareas de tipo esporádico y aperiódico. Además, se estudia el soporte para jitter y offset. El modelo es diseñado empleando la técnica de grafo de eventos, y se ajusta a los sistemas dinámicos discretos como lo son los Sistemas de Tiempo Real. Intégration de l’analyse prédictive dans des systèmes auto-adaptatifs

In this thesis we proposed a proactive self-adaptation by integrating predictive analysis into two phases of the software process. At design time, we propose a predictive modeling process, which includes the activities: define goals, collect data, select model structure, prepare data, build candidate predictive models, training, testing and cross-validation of the candidate models and selection of the ''best'' models based on a measure of model goodness. At runtime, we consume the predictions from the selected predictive models using the running system actual data. Depending on the input data and the time allowed for learning algorithms, we argue that the software system can foresee future possible input variables of the system and adapt proactively in order to accomplish middle and long term goals and requirements.Au cours des dernières années, il y a un intérêt croissant pour les systèmes logiciels capables de faire face à la dynamique des environnements en constante évolution. Actuellement, les systèmes auto-adaptatifs sont nécessaires pour l’adaptation dynamique à des situations nouvelles en maximisant performances et disponibilité. Les systèmes ubiquitaires et pervasifs fonctionnent dans des environnements complexes et hétérogènes et utilisent des dispositifs à ressources limitées où des événements peuvent compromettre la qualité du système. En conséquence, il est souhaitable de s’appuyer sur des mécanismes d’adaptation du système en fonction des événements se produisant dans le contexte d’exécution. En particulier, la communauté du génie logiciel pour les systèmes auto-adaptatif (Software Engineering for Self-Adaptive Systems - SEAMS) s’efforce d’atteindre un ensemble de propriétés d’autogestion dans les systèmes informatiques. Ces propriétés d’autogestion comprennent les propriétés dites self-configuring, self-healing, self-optimizing et self-protecting. Afin de parvenir à l’autogestion, le système logiciel met en œuvre un mécanisme de boucle de commande autonome nommé boucle MAPE-K [78]. La boucle MAPE-K est le paradigme de référence pour concevoir un logiciel auto-adaptatif dans le contexte de l’informatique autonome. Cet modèle se compose de capteurs et d’effecteurs ainsi que quatre activités clés : Monitor, Analyze, Plan et Execute, complétées d’une base de connaissance appelée Knowledge, qui permet le passage des informations entre les autres activités [78]. L’étude de la littérature récente sur le sujet [109, 71] montre que l’adaptation dynamique est généralement effectuée de manière réactive, et que dans ce cas les systèmes logiciels ne sont pas en mesure d’anticiper des situations problématiques récurrentes. Dans certaines situations, cela pourrait conduire à des surcoûts inutiles ou des indisponibilités temporaires de ressources du système. Support for group-based inequality among members of low-status groups as an ingroup status-enhancement strategy

We discuss the idea that competition-based motives boost low-status group members’ support for group-based hierarchy and inequality. Specifically, the more low-status group members feel motivated to compete with a relevant high-status outgroup, based on the belief that existing status positions may be reversed, the more they will defend status differentials (i.e., high social dominance orientation; SDO). Using minimal groups (N = 113), we manipulated ingroup (low vs. high) status, and primed unstable status positions to all participants. As expected, we found that SDO positively mediates the relation between ingroup identification and collective action, when ingroup’s status is perceived to be low and status positions are perceived as highly unstable. We discuss the implications of considering situational and contextual factors to better understand individuals’ support for group-based hierarchies and inequality, and the advantages of considering ideological processes in predicting collective action.info:eu-repo/semantics/publishedVersio

Este trabajo trata sobre la probabilidad de encontrar un instante crítico con los peores casos de jitter de instanciación en un Sistema de Tiempo Real. Se analizará mediante simulaciones, que esta condición de planificación acontece muy rara vez, más aún cuando los sistemas poseen numerosas tareas. Consecuentemente, basar el diseño del sistema en esta condición puede provocar implementaciones de hardware sobredimensionadas para el funcionamiento normal del mismo. Social Dominance Orientation Boosts Collective Action Among Low-Status Groups

We propose that low-status group members' support for group-based hierarchy and inequality (i.e., social dominance orientation; SDO) may represent an ideological strategy to guarantee the legitimacy of future ingroup status-enhancement. Specifically, we argue that, under unstable social structure conditions, SDO serves as an ideological justification for collective action tendencies aimed at competing for a higher status. In such context, SDO should be positively related with actions aimed to favor the ingroup (i.e., collective actions) by increasing group members' motivation to engage in direct competition with a relevant higher-status outgroup. We conducted two studies under highly competitive and unstable social structure contexts using real life groups. In Study 1 (N = 77), we induced Low vs. High Ingroup (University) Status and in Study 2 (N = 220) we used competing sports groups. Overall, results showed that, among members of low-status groups, SDO consistently increased individuals' motivation to get involved in actions favoring the ingroup, by boosting their motivation to compete with the opposing high-status outgroup.
