Federated identity architecture of the european eID system

Federated identity management is a method that facilitates management of identity processes and policies among the collaborating entities without a centralized control. Nowadays, there are many federated identity solutions, however, most of them covers different aspects of the identification problem, solving in some cases specific problems. Thus, none of these initiatives has consolidated as a unique solution and surely it will remain like that in a near future. To assist users choosing a possible solution, we analyze different federated identify approaches, showing main features, and making a comparative study among them. The former problem is even worst when multiple organizations or countries already have legacy eID systems, as it is the case of Europe. In this paper, we also present the European eID solution, a purely federated identity system that aims to serve almost 500 million people and that could be extended in midterm also to eID companies. The system is now being deployed at the EU level and we present the basic architecture and evaluate its performance and scalability, showing that the solution is feasible from the point of view of performance while keeping security constrains in mind. The results show a good performance of the solution in local, organizational, and remote environments

Effects of the Combination of Music Therapy and Physiotherapy in the Improvement of Motor Function in Cerebral Palsy: A Challenge for Research

Background: There are different therapeutic strategies such as physiotherapy and music therapy for the treatment of cerebral palsy. Intervention protocols using both therapies to unify the measurement of motor function have not been investigated. Aims and scope: To summarize the effects of the treatment of cerebral palsy through the use of both for the improvement of motor function, analyse the challenges encountered, and submit proposals for improving them. Methods: The systematic review was conducted following PRISMA guidelines and registered in the PROSPERO database (CRD42020162493). Clinical trials that described the results obtained in terms of motor function through physiotherapy and music therapy were included. Results: Eight clinical trials with 234 participants were considered with a significant improvement in motor function. Results of meta-analysis suggested improvements in gait velocity in favour of the control group for cerebral palsy (mean differences = 0.03; 95% confidence interval = 0.01, 0.04, p = 0.001; I-2 = 97%). However, high heterogeneity was identified in the meta-analysis due to the small number of studies included. Conclusions: The combination can be effective in subjects with cerebral palsy to improve motor function, although due to the diversity of studies analysed, it is complex to extrapolate results.This research was funded by the Department of Nursing and Physiotherapy (University of Cadiz)

Géneros de lectura preferidos por los alumnos extremeños. Datos y análisis

The abundant research work on reading habits in Spain shows a disaggregation of municipalities and cities with little geographical sample of their results. In this way, taking as a starting point the previous studies of 2007 for Extremadura carried out by the Germán Sánchez Ruipérez Foundation, our work intends to update and extend the data of reading habits by applying them to the contemporary geographical reality and the degree of rurality of the region. Thus, in the context of a survey focused on reading habits in Extremadura responded by 9.212 students of all educational levels (Primary, Secondary, University) during the year 2017, this study exposes and specifically analyzes the data obtained on the preferred genres according to the educational level and sex of participants. The study is completed with the data to the CDU of the public and school libraries of Extremadura. As a relevant result, the literary genres of mystery and adventure are, in general, the most demanded at all levels of education. In the Senior College, history is preferred. More women than men prefer romantic novels. The lyric genre is not very popular in terms of reading preferences among any of the educational levels analyzed.Los abundantes trabajos de investigación acerca de los hábitos de lectura en España muestran una desagregación de municipios y ciudades con escasa muestra geográfica de sus resultados. Tomando como punto de partida los estudios previos de 2007 realizados por la Fundación Germán Sánchez Ruipérez para Extremadura, nuestro trabajo pretende actualizar y ampliar los datos de hábitos de lectura aplicándolos a la realidad geográfica contemporánea y el grado de ruralidad de la región. Así, en el contexto de una encuesta propia sobre hábitos lectores en Extremadura realizada a 9.212 estudiantes de todos los niveles educativos (Primaria, Secundaria, Universidad) durante el año 2017, este estudio expone y analiza específicamente los datos obtenidos sobre los géneros preferidos atendiendo al nivel educativo y sexo de los encuestados. El estudio se completa con los datos referidos al CDU de las bibliotecas públicas y escolares de Extremadura. Como resultados más relevantes, los géneros literarios de misterio y aventuras son, en general, los más demandados en todos los niveles educativos. En la Universidad de Mayores se prefieren los de historia. La novela romántica gusta más a las mujeres que a los hombres. El género lírico no atraviesa un buen momento en cuanto a las preferencias de lectura en ninguno de los niveles educativos analizados

Hábitos de lectura en lenguas extranjeras en los estudiantes de Extremadura

In this way, taking as a starting point previous studies carried out by the Germán Sánchez Ruipérez Foundation in Extremadura in 2007, our work intends to update and extend the data of reading habits by applying them to the contemporary geographical reality and the degree of rurality of the region. Thus, in the context of a survey focused on reading habits in Extremadura responded by 9212 students of all educational levels (Primary, Secondary, University) during 2017, this study exposes and specifically analyzes the data obtained on reading in foreign languages according to the sex, age, level of studies and geographical area of the respondents. We also analyze other variables related to reading in foreign languages that may be significant such as the language, the fact that the school is following a bilingual programme and the average of books read in other languages by immigrant students.Los abundantes trabajos de investigación acerca de los hábitos de lectura en España muestran una desagregación de municipios y ciudades con escasa muestra geográfica de sus resultados. Tomando como punto de partida los estudios previos realizados por la Fundación Germán Sánchez Ruipérez emn 2007 para Extremadura, nuestro trabajo pretende actualizar y ampliar los datos de hábitos de lectura aplicándolos a la realidad geográfica contemporánea y el grado de ruralidad de la región. Así, en el contexto de una encuesta propia sobre hábitos lectores en Extremadura realizada a 9212 estudiantes de todos los niveles educativos (Primaria, Secundaria, Universidad) durante el año 2017, este estudio expone y analiza específicamente los datos obtenidos sobre la lectura en idiomas extranjeros atendiendo al sexo, edad, nivel de estudios y área geográfica de los encuestados. Se analizan asimismo otras variables relacionadas con la lectura en lenguas extranjeras que pueden resultar significativas tales como el idioma, el soporte de lectura utilizado, la incidencia en centros bilingües y el índice de lectura en otros idiomas entre los alumnos de procedencia inmigrante.

Organización por competencias de las prácticas clínicas de enfermería comunitaria: Guía docente de prácticas.

Informe / Memoria final del Proyecto de Innovación Educativa IE33 “Organización por competencias de las prácticas clínicas de Enfermería Comunitaria: Guía docente de prácticas” correspondiente a la Convocatoria de Innovación Educativa Universitaria del Proyecto Europa de la Universidad de Cádiz (para la adaptación al Espacio Europeo de Educación Superior), desarrollado durante el curso académico 2008-2009 en la Escuela Universitaria de Enfermería y Fisioterapia de esta Universidad. Se describe el proceso seguido, los mecanismos de evaluación desarrollados así como los resultados obtenidos. Igualmente se anexan los diferentes documentos generados tanto originalmente como tras su evaluación y modificación.El presente documento muestra el Informe / Memoria final del Proyecto de Innovación Educativa IE33 “Organización por competencias de las prácticas clínicas de Enfermería Comunitaria: Guía docente de prácticas” correspondiente a la Convocatoria de Innovación Educativa Universitaria del Proyecto Europa de la Universidad de Cádiz (para la adaptación al Espacio Europeo de Educación Superior), desarrollado durante el curso académico 2008-2009 en la Escuela Universitaria de Enfermería y Fisioterapia de esta Universidad. Los objetivos del proyecto han sido: - Introducir las competencias en la organización, desarrollo y evaluación de las prácticas de la asignatura Enfermería Comunitaria. - Elaborar una guía de prácticas (que facilite al alumno saber qué aprender y comprobar qué ha conseguido). - Elaborar unos instrumentos que faciliten la “medición” de los resultados del aprendizaje / grado de consecución de las competencias pretendidas. - Determinar las “Necesidades no cubiertas en el desempeño” y las “Áreas de mejora” consecuentes (modelo PUNs y DENs de Richard Eve). El proceso de implantación del proyecto así como los documentos y metodología seguida han sido evaluados utilizándose metodología cuantitativa y cualitativa. Entre los aspectos positivos destacamos el elevado nivel de satisfacción conseguido, la dinamicidad que conlleva, el elevado nivel de participación del alumnado, que supone una adaptación al EEES, la determinación de necesidades formativas, la evaluación formativa, y que aporta al alumnado y al profesorado información necesaria para actuar de forma correctiva sobre el sistema enseñanza/aprendizaje, tanto sobre el proceso educativo como sobre los recursos ( personales, académicos y asistenciales). Se ha conseguido introducir las competencias en la organización, desarrollo y evaluación de las prácticas de la asignatura, elaborar documentación que supone una guía de prácticas -que facilita al alumno saber qué aprender, en qué contexto, cómo hacerlo y comprobar qué ha conseguido-, y disponer de instrumentos que facilitan la “medición” de los resultados de aprendizaje / grado de consecución de las competencias pretendidas. Al incluirse y adaptarse el modelo PUNs y DENs de R. Eve se han conseguido importantes resultados en aspectos como la evaluación formativa / auto-evaluación del alumnado. En el presente informe aparece descrito el proceso seguido, los mecanismos de evaluación desarrollados así como los resultados obtenidos. CARB-ES-19 Multicenter Study of Carbapenemase-Producing Klebsiella pneumoniae and Escherichia coli From All Spanish Provinces Reveals Interregional Spread of High-Risk Clones Such as ST307/OXA-48 and ST512/KPC-3

ObjectivesCARB-ES-19 is a comprehensive, multicenter, nationwide study integrating whole-genome sequencing (WGS) in the surveillance of carbapenemase-producing K. pneumoniae (CP-Kpn) and E. coli (CP-Eco) to determine their incidence, geographical distribution, phylogeny, and resistance mechanisms in Spain.MethodsIn total, 71 hospitals, representing all 50 Spanish provinces, collected the first 10 isolates per hospital (February to May 2019); CPE isolates were first identified according to EUCAST (meropenem MIC > 0.12 mg/L with immunochromatography, colorimetric tests, carbapenem inactivation, or carbapenem hydrolysis with MALDI-TOF). Prevalence and incidence were calculated according to population denominators. Antibiotic susceptibility testing was performed using the microdilution method (EUCAST). All 403 isolates collected were sequenced for high-resolution single-nucleotide polymorphism (SNP) typing, core genome multilocus sequence typing (cgMLST), and resistome analysis.ResultsIn total, 377 (93.5%) CP-Kpn and 26 (6.5%) CP-Eco isolates were collected from 62 (87.3%) hospitals in 46 (92%) provinces. CP-Kpn was more prevalent in the blood (5.8%, 50/853) than in the urine (1.4%, 201/14,464). The cumulative incidence for both CP-Kpn and CP-Eco was 0.05 per 100 admitted patients. The main carbapenemase genes identified in CP-Kpn were blaOXA–48 (263/377), blaKPC–3 (62/377), blaVIM–1 (28/377), and blaNDM–1 (12/377). All isolates were susceptible to at least two antibiotics. Interregional dissemination of eight high-risk CP-Kpn clones was detected, mainly ST307/OXA-48 (16.4%), ST11/OXA-48 (16.4%), and ST512-ST258/KPC (13.8%). ST512/KPC and ST15/OXA-48 were the most frequent bacteremia-causative clones. The average number of acquired resistance genes was higher in CP-Kpn (7.9) than in CP-Eco (5.5).ConclusionThis study serves as a first step toward WGS integration in the surveillance of carbapenemase-producing Enterobacterales in Spain. We detected important epidemiological changes, including increased CP-Kpn and CP-Eco prevalence and incidence compared to previous studies, wide interregional dissemination, and increased dissemination of high-risk clones, such as ST307/OXA-48 and ST512/KPC-3

Taking the pulse of Earth's tropical forests using networks of highly distributed plots

Tropical forests are the most diverse and productive ecosystems on Earth. While better understanding of these forests is critical for our collective future, until quite recently efforts to measure and monitor them have been largely disconnected. Networking is essential to discover the answers to questions that transcend borders and the horizons of funding agencies. Here we show how a global community is responding to the challenges of tropical ecosystem research with diverse teams measuring forests tree-by-tree in thousands of long-term plots. We review the major scientific discoveries of this work and show how this process is changing tropical forest science. Our core approach involves linking long-term grassroots initiatives with standardized protocols and data management to generate robust scaled-up results. By connecting tropical researchers and elevating their status, our Social Research Network model recognises the key role of the data originator in scientific discovery. Conceived in 1999 with RAINFOR (South America), our permanent plot networks have been adapted to Africa (AfriTRON) and Southeast Asia (T-FORCES) and widely emulated worldwide. Now these multiple initiatives are integrated via ForestPlots.net cyber-infrastructure, linking colleagues from 54 countries across 24 plot networks. Collectively these are transforming understanding of tropical forests and their biospheric role. Together we have discovered how, where and why forest carbon and biodiversity are responding to climate change, and how they feedback on it. This long-term pan-tropical collaboration has revealed a large long-term carbon sink and its trends, as well as making clear which drivers are most important, which forest processes are affected, where they are changing, what the lags are, and the likely future responses of tropical forests as the climate continues to change. By leveraging a remarkably old technology, plot networks are sparking a very modern revolution in tropical forest science.
