A new species of Liolaemus related to L. nigroviridis from the Andean highlands of Central Chile (Iguania, Liolaemidae)
Indexación: Web of Science; Scopus.The Liolaemus nigroviridis group is a clade of highland lizards endemic to Chile. These species are distributed from northern to central Chile, and currently there are no cases of sympatric distribution. This study describes a new species, Liolaemus uniformis sp. n., from this group, and provides a detailed morphological characterization and mitochondrial phylogeny using cytochrome-b. Liolaemus uniformis was found in sympatry with L. nigroviridis but noticeably differed in size, scalation, and markedly in the color pattern, without sexual dichromatism. This new species has probably been confused with L. monticola and L. bellii, both of which do not belong to the nigroviridis group. The taxonomic issues of this group that remain uncertain are also discussed.https://zookeys.pensoft.net/articles.php?id=601
Analytic structure factors and pair-correlation functions for the unpolarized homogeneous electron gas
We propose a simple and accurate model for the electron static structure
factors (and corresponding pair-correlation functions) of the 3D unpolarized
homogeneous electron gas. Our spin-resolved pair-correlation function is built
up with a combination of analytic constraints and fitting procedures to quantum
Monte Carlo data, and, in comparison to previous attempts (i) fulfills more
known integral and differential properties of the exact pair-correlation
function, (ii) is analytic both in real and in reciprocal space, and (iii)
accurately interpolates the newest, extensive diffusion-Monte Carlo data of
Ortiz, Harris and Ballone [Phys. Rev. Lett. 82, 5317 (1999)]. This can be of
interest for the study of electron correlations of real materials and for the

Fabry disease: recent advances in pathology, diagnosis, treatment and monitoring
<p>Abstract</p> <p>Background</p> <p>In Fabry disease (α-galactosidase A deficiency) accumulation of Globotriaosylceramide (Gb3) leads to progressive organ failure and premature death. The introduction of enzyme replacement therapy (ERT) was the beginning of a new era in this disorder, and has prompted a broad range of research activities. This review aims to summarize recent developments and progress with high impact for Fabry disease.</p> <p>Methods</p> <p>A Pubmed analysis was performed using the search terms "Fabry disease", "Anderson-Fabry disease", "alpha-galactosidase A" and "Gb3". Of the given publications by 31st January 2009 only original articles recently published in peer reviewed journals were included for this review. Case reports were included only when they comprised a new aspect. In addition we included relevant conference abstracts when the results had not already been published as original articles.</p> <p>Results</p> <p>Apart from Gb3-accumulation cellular and organ specific damages may be related also to inflammatory and immunological consequences. It will be interesting whether this may lead to new therapeutic strategies in the treatment of Fabry disease. Since newborn screening is still difficult in Fabry disease, detection of patients in populations at risk is of great importance. Undiagnosed patients with Fabry disease may still be found in cohorts of subjects with renal diseases, cardiomyopathy and TIA or stroke. Efforts should be undertaken to identify these individuals and initialise ERT in order to hault disease progression. It has also been demonstrated that Gb3-accumulation leads to pre-clinical damages and it is believed that early treatment may be the only possibility so far to prevent irreversible organ damage.</p
Measuring Baryon Acoustic Oscillations along the line of sight with photometric redshifs: the PAU survey
Baryon Acoustic Oscillations (BAO) provide a standard ruler of known physical
length, making it a promising probe of the nature of dark energy. The detection
of BAO requires measuring galaxy positions and redshifts. "Transversal"
(angular distance) BAO measure the angular size of this scale, while
"line-of-sight" (or "radial") BAO require precise redshifts, but provide a
direct measurement of the Hubble parameter at different redshifts, a more
sensitive probe of dark energy. The main goal of this paper is to show that a
precision of sigma_z ~0.003(1 + z) is sufficient to measure BAO in the radial
direction. This precision can be achieved for bright, red galaxies, by using a
filter system comprising about 40 filters, each with a width of ~100 A, from ~
4000 A to ~ 8000 A, supplemented by two broad-band filters. We describe a
practical implementation, a new galaxy survey, PAU, to be carried out with a
telescope/camera combination with an etendue of about 20 m^2deg^2, and covering
8000 sq. deg. in the sky in four years. We expect to measure positions and
redshifts for over 14 million red, early-type galaxies with L > L* and i_AB <
22.5 in the interval 0.1 < z < 0.9, with sigma_z < 0.003(1 + z). This
population has a number density n > 10^-3 Mpc^-3 h^3 within the 9 (Gpc/h)^3
volume of the survey, ensuring that the error in the determination of the BAO
scale is not limited by shot-noise. By itself, such a survey will deliver
precisions of order 5% in the dark-energy equation of state parameter w, if
assumed constant, and can determine its time derivative when combined with
future CMB measurements. In addition, PAU will yield high-quality redshift and

Background: Paracoccidioides brasiliensis causes paracoccidioidomycosis, one of the most prevalent systemic mycosis in
Latin America. Thus, understanding the characteristics of the protective immune response to P. brasiliensis is of interest, as it
may reveal targets for disease control. The initiation of the immune response relies on the activation of pattern recognition
receptors, among which are TLRs. Both TLR2 and TLR4 have been implicated in the recognition of P. brasiliensis and
regulation of the immune response. However, the role of TLR9 during the infection by this fungus remains unclear.J.F.
