Intelligence and negation biases on the Conditional Inference task:A dual-processes analysis

Does negative conclusion bias stem from Type 1 or Type 2 processing? Does implicit negation bias stem from Type 1 or Type 2 processing? Our analysis demonstrated that rejecting denial of the antecedent and affirmation of the consequent inferences was positively correlated with intelligence, while endorsing modus tollens inferences was not; that the occurrence of negative conclusion bias was related to the extent of Type 2 processing; and that the occurrence of implicit negation bias was not related to the extent of Type 2 processing. We conclude that negative conclusion bias is, at least in part, a product of Type 2 processing, while implicit negation bias is not
Faraday rotation in the MOJAVE blazars: 3C 273 a case study
Radio polarimetric observations of Active Galactic Nuclei can reveal the
magnetic field structure in the parsec-scale jets of these sources. We have
observed the gamma-ray blazar 3C 273 as part of our multi-frequency survey with
the Very Long Baseline Array to study Faraday rotation in a large sample of
jets. Our observations re-confirm the transverse rotation measure gradient in
3C 273. For the first time the gradient is seen to cross zero which is further
indication for a helical magnetic field and spine-sheath structure in the jet.
We believe the difference to previous epochs is due to a different part of the

Non-gray rotating stellar models and the evolutionary history of the Orion Nebular Cluster
Rotational evolution in the pre-main sequence (PMS) is described with new
sets of PMS evolutionary tracks including rotation, non-gray boundary
conditions (BCs) and either low (LCE) or high convection efficiency (HCE).
Using observational data and our theoretical predictions, we aim at
constraining 1) the differences obtained for the rotational evolution of stars
within the ONC by means of these different sets of models; 2) the initial
angular momentum of low mass stars, by means of their templates in the ONC. We
discuss the reliability of current stellar models for the PMS. While the 2D
radiation hydrodynamic simulations predict HCE in PMS, semi-empirical
calibrations either seem to require that convection is less efficient in PMS
than in the following MS phase or are still contradictory. We derive stellar
masses and ages for the ONC by using both LCE and HCE. The resulting mass
distribution for the bulk of the ONC population is in the range 0.20.3
{\msun} for our non-gray models and in the range 0.10.3{\msun} for models
having gray BCs. In agreement with Herbst et al. (2002) we find that a large
percentage (70%) of low-mass stars (M\simlt 0.5{\msun} for LCE;
M\simlt0.35{\msun} for HCE) in the ONC appears to be fast rotators (P4days).
Three possibilities are open: 1) 70% of the ONC low mass stars lose their
disk at early evolutionary phases; 2)their locking period is shorter; 3) the
period evolution is linked to a different morphology of the magnetic fields of
the two groups of stars. We also estimate the range of initial angular momentum
consistent with the observed periods. The comparisons made indicate that a
second parameter is needed to describe convection in the PMS, possibly related
to the structural effect of a dynamo magnetic field.Comment: 17 pages, 11 figure
Exploring pre-main sequence variables of ONC: The new variables
Since 2004, we have been engaged in a long-term observing program to monitor
young stellar objects in the Orion Nebula Cluster. We have collected about two
thousands frames in V, R, and I broad-band filters on more than two hundred
nights distributed over five consecutive observing seasons. The high-quality
and time-extended photometric data give us an opportunity to address various
phenomena associated with young stars. The prime motivations of this project
are i) to explore various manifestations of stellar magnetic activity in very
young low-mass stars; ii) to search for new pre-main sequence eclipsing
binaries; and iii) to look for any EXor and FUor like transient activities
associated with YSOs. Since this is the first paper on this program, we give a
detailed description of the science drivers, the observation and the data
reduction strategies as well. In addition to these, we also present a large
number of new periodic variables detected from our first five years of
time-series photometric data. Our study reveals that about 72% of CTTS in our
FoV are periodic, whereas, the percentage of periodic WTTS is just 32%. This
indicates that inhomogeneities patterns on the surface of CTTS of the ONC stars
are much more stable than on WTTS. From our multi-year monitoring campaign we
found that the photometric surveys based on single-season are incapable of
identifying all periodic variables. And any study on evolution of angular
momentum based on single-season surveys must be carried out with caution.Comment: Accepted for publication by MNRAS, 26 pages, 17 figures, 6 table
Fermi Large Area Telescope Observations of Misaligned AGN
Analysis is presented on 15 months of data taken with the Large Area
Telescope (LAT) on the Fermi Gamma-ray Space Telescope for 11 non-blazar AGNs,
including 7 FRI radio galaxies and 4 FRII radio sources consisting of 2 FRII
radio galaxies and 2 steep spectrum radio quasars. The broad line FRI radio
galaxy 3C 120 is reported here as a gamma-ray source for the first time. The
analysis is based on directional associations of LAT sources with radio sources
in the 3CR, 3CRR and MS4 (collectively referred to as 3C-MS) catalogs. Seven of
the eleven LAT sources associated with 3C-MS radio sources have spectral
indices larger than 2.3 and, except for the FRI radio galaxy NGC 1275 that
shows possible spectral curvature, are well described by a power law. No
evidence for time variability is found for any sources other than NGC 1275. The
gamma-ray luminosities of FRI radio galaxies are significantly smaller than
those of BL Lac objects detected by the LAT, whereas the gamma-ray luminosities
of FRII sources are quite similar to those of FSRQs, which could reflect
different beaming factors for the gamma-ray emission. A core dominance study of
the 3CRR sample indicate that sources closer to the jet axis are preferentially
detected with the Fermi-LAT, insofar as the gamma-ray--detected misaligned AGNs
have larger core dominance at a given average radio flux. The results are

Failure of a repeat course of cyclooxygenase inhibitor to close a PDA is a risk factor for developing chronic lung disease in ELBW infants
<p>Abstract</p> <p>Background</p> <p>The optimal treatment regimen or protocol for managing a persistent patent ductus arteriosus (PDA) in extremely low birth weight (ELBW) infants has not been well established. This study was aimed at evaluating the failure rate of a cyclooxygenase (COX) inhibitor (COI) for PDA closure and to determine the incidence of a PDA requiring ligation in ELBW infants. We examined the clinical characteristics and risk factors that may predict the clinical consequences of failure of PDA closure by COI.</p> <p>Methods</p> <p>Medical information on 138 infants with birth weight (BW) < 1000 gm who survived for > 48 hours was retrieved. Clinical characteristics and outcomes of patients whose PDAs closed with COI were compared with those who did not close.</p> <p>Results</p> <p>Of the 138 patients, 112 survived to discharge. Eighty (71.4%) of those who survived received 1-3 courses of COI treatment for a symptomatic PDA. A total of 32 (40%) failed COI treatment and underwent PDA ligation. Multivariable logistic regression analysis suggests that the observed differences in the outcomes in infants with or without symptomatic PDA can be explained by the babies with symptomatic PDA being more immature and sicker. No significant difference was seen in the incidence of chronic lung disease (CLD) in infants whose PDA was treated medically versus those who failed medical treatment and then underwent ligation. However, after adjusting for disease severity and other known risk factors, the odds ratio of developing CLD for surviving babies with a persistent PDA compared to those whose PDA was successfully closed with 1-2 courses of COI is 3.24 (1.07-9.81; p = 0.038).</p> <p>Conclusions</p> <p>When successfully treated, PDA in ELBW infants did not contribute significantly to the adverse outcomes such as CLD, retinopathy of prematurity (ROP) and age at discharge. This suggests that it is beneficial for a hemodynamically significant PDA to be closed. The failure of a repeat course of COI to close a PDA is a major risk factor for developing CLD in ELBW infants.</p
Perpetrating Cyber Dating Abuse: A Brief Report on the Role of Aggression, Romantic Jealousy and Gender
There is increasing evidence that the use of elec-tronic communication technology (ECT) is being integrated into romantic relationships, which can be used as a medium to control a romantic partner. Most research focuses on the vic-tims of cyber dating abuse, however, we focused on the factors that predict perpetration of cyber dating abuse. We explored whether aggression (verbal aggression, physical aggression, anger and hostility), romantic jealousy (emotional, cognitive and behavioral jealousy), and gender predicted perpetration of cyber dating abuse (n = 189). We found that hostility, behav-ioral jealousy and gender significantly predicted perpetration of cyber dating abuse. The findings of this study contribute to our understanding of the psychological factors that drive cyber dating abuse in romantic relationships
A New Basal Sauropodomorph (Dinosauria: Saurischia) from Quebrada del Barro Formation (Marayes-El Carrizal Basin), Northwestern Argentina
BACKGROUND: Argentinean basal sauropodomorphs are known by several specimens from different basins; Ischigualasto, El Tranquilo, and Mogna. The Argentinean record is diverse and includes some of the most primitive known sauropodomorphs such as Panphagia and Chromogisaurus, as well as more derived forms, including several massospondylids. Until now, the Massospondylidae were the group of basal sauropodomorphs most widely spread around Pangea with a record in almost all continents, mostly from the southern hemisphere, including the only record from Antarctica. METHODOLOGY/PRINCIPAL FINDING: We describe here a new basal sauropodomorph, Leyesaurus marayensis gen. et sp. nov., from the Quebrada del Barro Formation, an Upper Triassic-Lower Jurassic unit that crops out in northwestern Argentina. The new taxon is represented by a partial articulated skeleton that includes the skull, vertebral column, scapular and pelvic girdles, and hindlimb. Leyesaurus is diagnosed by a set of unique features, such as a sharply acute angle (50 degrees) formed by the ascending process of the maxilla and the alveolar margin, a straight ascending process of the maxilla with a longitudinal ridge on its lateral surface, noticeably bulging labial side of the maxillary teeth, greatly elongated cervical vertebrae, and proximal articular surface of metatarsal III that is shelf-like and medially deflected. Phylogenetic analysis recovers Leyesaurus as a basal sauropodomorph, sister taxon of Adeopapposaurus within the Massospondylidae. Moreover, the results suggest that massospondylids achieved a higher diversity than previously thought. CONCLUSIONS/SIGNIFICANCE: Our phylogenetic results differ with respect to previous analyses by rejecting the massospondylid affinities of some taxa from the northern hemisphere (e.g., Seitaad, Sarahsaurus). As a result, the new taxon Leyesaurus, coupled with other recent discoveries, suggests that the diversity of massospondylids in the southern hemisphere was higher than in other regions of Pangea. Finally, the close affinities of Leyesaurus with the Lower Jurassic Massospondylus suggest a younger age for the Quebrada del Barro Formation than previously postulated
A Multicenter Evaluation of Pediatric Emergency Department Injury Visits during the COVID-19 Pandemic
BACKGROUND: Injuries, the leading cause of death in children 1-17 years old, are often preventable. Injury patterns are impacted by changes in the child\u27s environment, shifts in supervision, and caregiver stressors. The objective of this study was to evaluate the incidence and proportion of injuries, mechanisms, and severity seen in Pediatric Emergency Departments (PEDs) during the COVID-19 pandemic.
METHODS: This multicenter, cross-sectional study from January 2019 through December 2020 examined visits to 40 PEDs for children \u3c 18 years old. Injury was defined by at least one International Classification of Disease-10th revision (ICD-10) code for bodily injury (S00-T78). The main study outcomes were total and proportion of PED injury-related visits compared to all visits in March through December 2020 and to the same months in 2019. Weekly injury visits as a percentage of total PED visits were calculated for all weeks between January 2019 and December 2020.
RESULTS: The study included 741,418 PED visits for injuries pre-COVID-19 pandemic (2019) and during the COVID-19 pandemic (2020). Overall PED visits from all causes decreased 27.4% in March to December 2020 compared to the same time frame in 2019; however, the proportion of injury-related PED visits in 2020 increased by 37.7%. In 2020, injured children were younger (median age 6.31 years vs 7.31 in 2019), more commonly White (54% vs 50%, p \u3c 0.001), non-Hispanic (72% vs 69%, p \u3c 0.001) and had private insurance (35% vs 32%, p \u3c 0.001). Injury hospitalizations increased 2.2% (p \u3c 0.001) and deaths increased 0.03% (p \u3c 0.001) in 2020 compared to 2019. Mean injury severity score increased (2.2 to 2.4, p \u3c 0.001) between 2019 and 2020. Injuries declined for struck by/against (- 4.9%) and overexertion (- 1.2%) mechanisms. Injuries proportionally increased for pedal cycles (2.8%), cut/pierce (1.5%), motor vehicle occupant (0.9%), other transportation (0.6%), fire/burn (0.5%) and firearms (0.3%) compared to all injuries in 2020 versus 2019.
CONCLUSIONS: The proportion of PED injury-related visits in March through December 2020 increased compared to the same months in 2019. Racial and payor differences were noted. Mechanisms of injury seen in the PED during 2020 changed compared to 2019, and this can inform injury prevention initiatives
