Producción CientíficaEl Hostal-Parador “San Marcos” de la ciudad de León ha sido objeto de diversas ampliaciones y reformas parciales en los últimos cincuenta años hasta que, en 2010 y 2011, se acometió una restauración integral del conjunto de edificios, con sus ampliaciones sucesivas. La estructura horizontal dispuesta a lo largo de la segunda mitad del siglo XX consistió en la realización de forjados con viguetas metálicas y un material muy pobre de relleno, a base de cenizas y placas de aislamiento ligero. En la última reforma proyectada se pretendió conseguir, entre otras cosas, una mayor capacidad portante de tales forjados, añadiendo y conectando debidamente una losa superior de hormigón ligeramente armado. Solución simple y económica, frente a otras alternativas de refuerzo más costosas. Ante la ausencia de normativa para estructuras mixtas de forjado en España, esta ponencia expone el planteamiento empleado para resolver el problema, con las escasas indicaciones de EHE y un criterio clásico de resistencia de materiales. Se presta especial atención a la definición empleada para las tensiones tangenciales a resistir por el hormigón y el engarce con las viguetas metálicas existentes

Cognitive paths of pre-service teachers when they compare unequal ratios

En esta investigación se analizan las rutas cognitivas que subyacen a las resoluciones de un grupo de futuros maestros ante una tarea de comparación de razones desiguales en el contexto de las ofertas comerciales. La revisión de la literatura y el análisis en profundidad de las componentes críticas de la tarea nos han permitido definir las dimensiones de análisis de las resoluciones. A partir de ellas hemos realizado un análisis cualitativo de corte interpretativo del cual se desprende que los participantes poseen un escaso desarrollo del pensamiento relativo. Un número importante de ellos presenta dificultades con la comparación de las cantidades relativas desiguales cuando estas se les presentan normalizadas de forma diferente y con distinto referente.In this research we analyze the cognitive paths that underlie the resolutions of a preservice teacher’s group to solve a task of comparing unequal ratios in the context of commercial offers. The review of the literature and the in-depth analysis of the critical components of the task have allowed us to define the analysis dimensions of the resolutions. From them we have made an interpretative and qualitative analysis which shows that participants have a poor development of relative thinking. A significant number of them present difficulties with the comparison of unequal relative quantities when they are presented as normalized in a different way and with a different referent

Implementación de un ariete hidráulico con fines didácticos y experimentales para la carrera de Ingeniería Electromecánica de la Universidad Técnica de Cotopaxi

Nowadays the main important usage of renewable energies, therefore this project focuses to encourage its practice, it will give to the student a tool which will help in practical ways in their professional training, it is about a hydraulic ram which can you transport and reassemble for its outdoor functioning. Among its main parts involved two tanks such us supply tank, elevated tank, supply hose, pumping hose, an impulse valve, air valve, check valve and an air chamber or air hood. The elements for the installation of the ram are: a 1000 liters tank, rigid hose 12 meters of 40 mm, this is the impulse piping, flexible hose 10 meters of 25 mm, this is the pumping pipe, the ram is located on a square tube, two shut-off valves, one for the fluid input to the ram and the other for the fluid output of the ram. All the elements mentioned are removable, so that users can move it to the place where is required and as well to get the data needed to carry out its practice. This hydraulic ram for one-dimensional flow of the water contained in the tube depends on three variables, flow rate, height and time. Two states of the hydraulic ram must be considered, the burst when it has already exceeded the burst presents a cyclical behavior. The hydraulic ram takes five minutes to start functioning through the data collected in the practice, it can be verified that it maintains a height of 2 m of input and varying output the height in (4, 6, and 8) m, the flow rate also varies in inverse form, at higher height lower flow, as well as the number of strokes on the impulse valve, giving us as a result to the height of 4 m a hydraulic efficiency of 84, 8% and to the height of 8 m a hydraulic efficiency of 52.4 %.En la actualidad es de principal importancia la utilización de energías renovables, por ello este proyecto busca incentivar su práctica, para esto se dará al estudiante una herramienta, que ayudara de forma práctica en su formación profesional, se trata de un Ariete hidráulico, mismo que se puede trasportar y re ensamblar para su funcionamiento en exteriores. Entre sus partes principales están: dos tanques, tanque de abastecimiento y tanque elevado, manguera de alimentación y manguera de bombeo, una válvula de impulso, válvula de aire, válvula check, cámara de aire o campana. Los elementos para la instalación del ariete son, un tanque de 1000 litros, 12 metros de manguera rígida de 40 mm, esta es la tubería de impulso, 10 metros de manguera flexible de 25 mm, esta es la tubería de bombeo, el ariete se encuentra sobre una base de tubo cuadrado, dos llaves de paso, una para la entrada del fluido al ariete y otra para la salida del fluido del ariete. Todos los elementos mencionados son desmontables, de tal manera que los usuarios puedan trasladarla al lugar donde se requiera y así conseguir los datos necesarios para realizar su práctica. Este ariete hidráulico para flujo unidimensional del agua contenida en el tubo depende de tres variables, caudal, altura y tiempo. Se debe considerar dos estados del ariete hidráulico, el arranque y cuando ya ha superado el arranque y presenta un comportamiento cíclico. El ariete hidráulico tarda 5 minutos en entrar en funcionamiento, a través de los datos recopilados en la práctica se puede comprobar que manteniendo una altura de entrada de 2 m y variando la altura de salida en (4, 6 y 8) m, el caudal también varía en forma inversa, a más altura menor caudal, al igual que el número de golpes en la válvula de impulso, dándonos como resultado para la altura de 4 m un rendimiento hidráulico de 84, 8 % y para la altura de 8 m un rendimiento hidráulico de 52,4 % .Universidad Técnica de Cotopax

Aplicación de la inmunohistoquímica como herramienta de estudio complementaria para la identificación de componentes del parénquima y estroma mamario.

En la práctica docente, durante la observación microscópica de cortes histológicos coloreados con hematoxilina-eosina (H-E), no es posible la identificación y localización específica de diferentes componentes estructurales de los tejidos. La inmunohistoquímica (IHQ) es una herramienta que está disponible en numerosos laboratorios de histología y podría utilizarse para complementar las actividades docentes. Esta técnica, mediante la utilización de anticuerpos específicos, permite la localización de antígenos en células o tejidos in situ. El objetivo del trabajo fue aplicar la técnica de IHQ como herramienta de estudio complementaria a la coloración de H-E, para identificar componentes del parénquima y estroma de la glándula mamaria bovina. Se obtuvieron muestras de tejido mamario a partir de ubres sanas a los 14 días de involución. Se realizó IHQ indirecta utilizando anticuerpos primarios específicos para identificar: citoqueratinas (AE1/2), vimentina (V9), colágeno I, α-actina del músculo liso (SMA), células endoteliales (CD31), monocitos/macrófagos (CD14) y neutrófilos (CH138). Además, se utilizó anti PCNA para evaluar proliferación celular. El citoplasma de las células epiteliales que revisten alvéolos y conductos expresaron intensamente citoqueratinas AE1/2. Los fibroblastos del tejido conectivo (TC) expresaron marcación positiva con anti V9. En el TC interalveolar e interlobulillar se identificaron fibras de colágeno tipo I. Se observó reacción positiva intensa para CD31 en el citoplasma de las células endoteliales que revisten los vasos sanguíneos. Las células mioepiteliales que rodean alvéolos y conductos y las células musculares de los vasos sanguíneos reaccionaron intensamente con anti-SMA. Se lograron identificar y localizar monocito-macrófagos y neutrófilos. Se identificaron núcleos de células epiteliales y estromales en diferentes fases del ciclo celular. Se concluye que la aplicación de la IHQ en tejido mamario permitió identificar y localizar en forma específica diferentes componentes estructurales del estroma y parénquima, resultando de utilidad para complementar el estudio de la glándula mamaria bovina durante las actividades prácticas con los alumnos

Epigenetics in schizophrenia: a pilot study of global DNA methylation in different brain regions associated with higher cognitive functions

Attempts to discover genes that are involved in the pathogenesis of major psychiatric disorders have been frustrating and often fruitless. Concern is building about the need to understand the complex ways in which nature and nurture interact to produce mental illness. We analyze the epigenome in several brain regions from schizophrenic patients with severe cognitive impairment using high-resolution (450K) DNA methylation array. We identified 139 differentially methylated CpG sites included in known and novel candidate genes sequences as well as in and intergenic sequences which functions remain unknown. We found that altered DNA methylation is not restricted to a particular region, but includes others such as CpG shelves and gene bodies, indicating the presence of different DNA methylation signatures depending on the brain area analyzed. Our findings suggest that epimutations are not relatables between different tissues or even between tissues' regions, highlighting the need to adequately study brain samples to obtain reliable data concerning the epigenetics of schizophrenia

¿Como ha sido la evolución de la eutanasia en la legislación colombiana?

En Colombia últimamente se han visto casos referentes a la eutanasia, por personas que llevan consigo una enfermedad terminal y que así mismo exigen una muerte digna, en base a estos sucesos, el objeto de estudio se basara en casos reales vistos desde la medicina y la parte legal, no es un secreto que en Colombia la eutanasia está mal vista por la comunidad, pero a pesar de esto, es autorizada siempre y cuando cumpla algunas condiciones. Abordaremos el tema central relacionado con bioderecho y bioética, donde se entra a determinar el alcance y los límites frente al derecho a la vida, así mismo es necesario identificar lo que el ser humano es, como un ser personal que se domina así mismo por la razón; posteriormente es necesario hacer un derecho comparado entre Colombia y otras naciones que en su legislación no tienen permitido la facultad que se les da a la comunidad para tener una muerte digna por medio de este método efectivo. Todo lo anterior, se ha tomado como referencia para responder más adelante el problema jurídico planteado

The Submillimeter Array 1.3 mm line survey of Arp 220

We present the first aperture synthesis unbiased spectral line survey toward an extragalactic object. The survey covered the 40 GHz frequency range between 202 and 242 GHz of the 1.3 mm atmospheric window. We find that 80% of the observed band shows molecular emission, with 73 features identified from 15 molecular species and 6 isotopologues. The 13C isotopic substitutions of HC3N and transitions from H2(18)O, 29SiO, and CH2CO are detected for the first time outside the Galaxy. Within the broad observed band, we estimate that 28% of the total measured flux is due to the molecular line contribution, with CO only contributing 9% to the overall flux. We present maps of the CO emission at a resolution of 2.9"x1.9" which, though not enough to resolve the two nuclei, recover all the single-dish flux. The 40 GHz spectral scan has been modelled assuming LTE conditions and abundances are derived for all identified species. The chemical composition of Arp 220 shows no clear evidence of an AGN impact on the molecular emission but seems indicative of a purely starburst-heated ISM. The overabundance of H2S and the low isotopic ratios observed suggest a chemically enriched environment by consecutive bursts of star formation, with an ongoing burst at an early evolutionary stage. The large abundance of water (~10^-5), derived from the isotopologue H2(18)O, as well as the vibrationally excited emission from HC3N and CH3CN are claimed to be evidence of massive star forming regions within Arp 220. Moreover, the observations put strong constraints on the compactness of the starburst event in Arp 220. We estimate that such emission would require ~2-8x10^6 hot cores, similar to those found in the Sgr B2 region in the Galactic center, concentrated within the central 700 pc of Arp 220.Comment: Accepted for publication in A&

Role of age and comorbidities in mortality of patients with infective endocarditis

[Purpose]: The aim of this study was to analyse the characteristics of patients with IE in three groups of age and to assess the ability of age and the Charlson Comorbidity Index (CCI) to predict mortality. [Methods]: Prospective cohort study of all patients with IE included in the GAMES Spanish database between 2008 and 2015.Patients were stratified into three age groups:<65 years,65 to 80 years,and ≥ 80 years.The area under the receiver-operating characteristic (AUROC) curve was calculated to quantify the diagnostic accuracy of the CCI to predict mortality risk. [Results]: A total of 3120 patients with IE (1327 < 65 years;1291 65-80 years;502 ≥ 80 years) were enrolled.Fever and heart failure were the most common presentations of IE, with no differences among age groups.Patients ≥80 years who underwent surgery were significantly lower compared with other age groups (14.3%,65 years; 20.5%,65-79 years; 31.3%,≥80 years). In-hospital mortality was lower in the <65-year group (20.3%,<65 years;30.1%,65-79 years;34.7%,≥80 years;p < 0.001) as well as 1-year mortality (3.2%, <65 years; 5.5%, 65-80 years;7.6%,≥80 years; p = 0.003).Independent predictors of mortality were age ≥ 80 years (hazard ratio [HR]:2.78;95% confidence interval [CI]:2.32–3.34), CCI ≥ 3 (HR:1.62; 95% CI:1.39–1.88),and non-performed surgery (HR:1.64;95% CI:11.16–1.58).When the three age groups were compared,the AUROC curve for CCI was significantly larger for patients aged <65 years(p < 0.001) for both in-hospital and 1-year mortality. [Conclusion]: There were no differences in the clinical presentation of IE between the groups. Age ≥ 80 years, high comorbidity (measured by CCI),and non-performance of surgery were independent predictors of mortality in patients with IE.CCI could help to identify those patients with IE and surgical indication who present a lower risk of in-hospital and 1-year mortality after surgery, especially in the <65-year group
