A window overlooking the rural school. This article tries to capture the reality of education in the rural context, of the people who work in this school and what personal an professional experiences have led them to teach there. Based on the problems and difficulties related to the rural school and the teachers who work in it, a case study is carried out whose purpose is to know, as far as possible, what aspects of the lives of these three subjects are those that more they have influenced and conditioned them to carry out their teaching work in the rural context. For this work, the life history and personal development technique is used, for which the following steps have been followed: preparation of an interview protocol, transcription of the interviews, qualitative analysis of the responses through the design of category system and finally, an inventory of values. Through the interviews and their analysis, it is also known the vision that these teachers have about the place in which they carry out their educational practice. All the material used has been prepared taking into account the protocol designed by Atkinson (1997), carrying out the appropriate adaptations for the information to be collected and analysed. Likewise, the interview protocol was exhaustively reviewed by three professionals in the field

The objective of this work was to analyze the incidence of sustainable development on the chain of effects: perceived value - brand equity - loyalty. In order to achieve this, a theoretical model of relations, tested with a sample of 317 hypermarket customers in Ecuador, was proposed. Results, using an exploratory and confirmatory methodology, combined with partial least squares regression, showed that both sustainable development actions as well as perceived value are master pieces to build the retail strategy. Both are established as key variables by their nature, as they are multidimensional, and by their scope, allowing to generate customer loyalty towards the hypermarket through brand equity. The present paper analyzed the influence of ethically minded consumer behavior on retailer’s commitment to sustainable development as perceived by the consumer, and their contribution to the chain of relationships “store equity–loyalty–word of mouth communication”, in the context of retailing. Responses from 317 hypermarket customers in Ecuador were analyzed. The model was estimated using the partial least squares technique. The results show the sustainable development actions implemented by retailers, together with perceived value, contribute significantly to store equity creation, which explains customer loyalty and, ultimately, positive word-of-mouth communication. However, the most concerned consumers of ethical aspects value the retailer’s efforts towards sustainability to a lesser extent. The findings of this research allow developing a series of implications for the managers of these establishments

Today, intelligence does not guarantee happiness in our environment, work or social life. Personal and professional success is not only related to academic knowledge but also to the domain of emotional competences, whose development helps to manage the different stressful situations that occur on a daily basis. In this paper we describe a program in emotional education (SHE), designed and implemented as a pilot study, based on well-known scientific models of intelligence (Salovey &and Mayer, 1997) and emotional regulation (Gross &and John, 2003). This program aims to make available to children the synergies created by a global emotional education: children, teachers and parents. For this purpose, three samples of participants were selected: children from 4th grade primary, a group of parents of 4th grade and a group of teachers from the same school. The intervention consisted of developing and imparting bi-fortnightly sessions on emotional education. The results showed significant effects on the use of emotional regulation strategies - in student and parent samples - with a decrease in emotional suppression and an increase in cognitive reevaluation. In the case of teachers, the scores on negative affection decreased. The values of family functioning remained stable after the intervention. Finally, no significant changes in emotional intelligence skills were observed in any of the three study groups

Basement membrane-rich Organoids with functional human blood vessels are permissive niches for human breast cancer metastasis

Metastasic breast cancer is the leading cause of death by malignancy in women worldwide. Tumor metastasis is a multistep process encompassing local invasion of cancer cells at primary tumor site, intravasation into the blood vessel, survival in systemic circulation, and extravasation across the endothelium to metastasize at a secondary site. However, only a small percentage of circulating cancer cells initiate metastatic colonies. This fact, together with the inaccessibility and structural complexity of target tissues has hampered the study of the later steps in cancer metastasis. In addition, most data are derived from in vivo models where critical steps such as intravasation/extravasation of human cancer cells are mediated by murine endothelial cells. Here, we developed a new mouse model to study the molecular and cellular mechanisms underlying late steps of the metastatic cascade. We have shown that a network of functional human blood vessels can be formed by co-implantation of human endothelial cells and mesenchymal cells, embedded within a reconstituted basement membrane-like matrix and inoculated subcutaneously into immunodeficient mice. The ability of circulating cancer cells to colonize these human vascularized organoids was next assessed in an orthotopic model of human breast cancer by bioluminescent imaging, molecular techniques and immunohistological analysis. We demonstrate that disseminated human breast cancer cells efficiently colonize organoids containing a functional microvessel network composed of human endothelial cells, connected to the mouse circulatory system. Human breast cancer cells could be clearly detected at different stages of the metastatic process: initial arrest in the human microvasculature, extravasation, and growth into avascular micrometastases. This new mouse model may help us to map the extravasation process with unprecedented detail, opening the way for the identification of relevant targets for therapeutic intervention

This work was supported by the Spanish Ministry of Science, Innovation, and Universities under Grant (PID2021-128204OA-I00-AEI/FEDER, UE)[Abstract]: The present systematic review aimed to determine the chronic effects of the combination of transcranial direct current stimulation (tDCS) and exercise on motor function and performance outcomes. We performed a systematic literature review in the databases MEDLINE and Web of Science. Only randomized control trials that measured the chronic effect of combining exercise (comprising gross motor tasks) with tDCS during at least five sessions and measured any type of motor function or performance outcome were included. A total of 22 interventions met the inclusion criteria. Only outcomes related to motor function or performance were collected. Studies were divided into three groups: (a) healthy population (n = 4), (b) neurological disorder population (n = 14), and (c) musculoskeletal disorder population (n = 4). The studies exhibited considerable variability in terms of tDCS protocols, exercise programs, and outcome measures. Chronic use of tDCS in combination with strength training does not enhance motor function in healthy adults. In neurological disorders, the results suggest no additive effect if the exercise program includes the movements pretending to be improved (i.e., tested). However, although evidence is scarce, tDCS may enhance exercise-induced adaptations in musculoskeletal conditions characterized by pain as a limiting factor of motor function.

Introduction: recent studies suggest that women with gestational diabetes are more likely to suffer sleep disorders compared to pregnant women without diabetes. The objectives of this study were to analyze the risk factors associated with gestational diabetes and to verify if exist an association between the presence or abscense of gestational diabetes and the quality of the sleep and/or daytime sleepiness. Material and methods: case-controls study with a sample of 130 pregnant women, 46 of them with gestational diabetes and 84 controls. Anthropometric parameters such as weight, stature, body mass index (BMI) and abdominal perimeter were evaluated. Socio-demographic variables, including age and family situation were assessed, and a gynecological study was performed, evaluating the number of simple or multiple births, number of miscarriages and gynecological pathology during the past 3 years. The O’Sullivan test was conducted for the diagnosis of gestational diabetes. The quality of sleep and daytime sleepiness were also measured. Results: 46 women were diagnosed of gestational diabetes. There are significant differences (p < 0.001) in BMI scores among women with gestational diabetes and controls, being the highest values in the diabetic group. There is a significant association (p = 0.002) between the existence of family history of type 2 diabetes mellitus and the presence or abscense of gestational diabetes. Women with gestational diabetes present a significant worse quality of sleep (p < 0.001), and values of daytime sleepiness higher than the general population. Conclusions: high values of BMI or family history of type 2 diabetes mellitus seems to be factors associated to the risk of suffer gestational diabetes. Women with gestational diabetes have a poorer quality of sleep and a higher degree of daytime sleepiness than the general population, reducing the well-being of the mother and the fetus

Both obesity and SDB have been separately associated with poorer brain health, yet whether SDB severity affects brain health in children with obesity remains unanswered. This study aimed to examine associations of SDB severity with academic performance and brain structure (i.e., total brain and gray and white matter volumes and gray matter volume in the hippocampus) in children with overweight/obesity. One hundred nine children aged 8–12 years with overweight/obesity were included. SDB severity and its subscales (i.e., snoring, daytime sleepiness, and inattention/hyperactivity) were evaluated via the Pediatric Sleep Questionnaire (PSQ), and academic performance was evaluated with the Woodcock-Muñoz standardized test and school grades. Brain structure was assessed by magnetic resonance imaging. SDB severity was not associated with academic performance measured by the standardized test (all |β|> 0.160, P > 0.076), yet it was associated with the school grade point average (β = -0.226, P = 0.007) and natural and social science grades (β = -0.269, P = 0.024). Intention/hyperactivity seemed to drive these associations. No associations were found between SDB severity and the remaining school grades (all β 0.065) or brain volumes (all P > 0.05). Conclusion: Our study shows that SDB severity was associated with lower school grades, yet it was not associated with the standardized measurement of academic performance or with brain volumes in children with overweight/obesity. SDB severity may add to academic problems in children beyond the effects contributed by overweight/obesity status alone.Universidad de Granada/CBUASpanish Government European CommissionSpanish Government DEP201347540 DEP2016-79512-R DEP2017-91544-EXP RYC-201109011Spanish Government FPU17/04802 FPU15/02645 FJC2018-037925-I RYC2019-027287-IUniversity of Granada, Plan Propio de Investigacion 2016, Excellence actions: Units of Excellence, Scientific Excellence Unit on Exercise and Health (UCEES)Junta de Andalucia European Commission SOMM17/6107/UGRSAMID III network, RETICS - PNI + D + I 2017-2021 (Spain)ISCIII-Sub-Directorate General for Research Assessment and PromotionEuropean Commission RD16/0022EXERNET Research Network on Exercise and Health DEP2005-00046/ACTI 09/UPB/19 45/UPB/20 27/UPB/21European Commission 667302HL-PIVOT network-Healthy Living for Pandemic Event ProtectionAndalusian Operational ProgrammeEuropean Regional Development Funds (ERDF in English, FEDER in Spanish) B-CTS-355-UGR1
