    B ->\eta_c K(\eta_c^\prime K) decays in QCD factorization

    We study the exclusive decays of BB meson into pseudoscalar charmonium states ηc\eta_c and ηcâ€Č\eta_c^\prime within the QCD factorization approach and find that the nonfactorizable corrections to naive factorization are infrared safe at leading-twist order. The spectator interactions arising from the kaon twist-3 effects are formally power-suppressed but chirally and logarithmically enhanced. The theoretical decay rates are too small to accommodate the experimental data. On the other hand, we compare the theoretical calculations for J/ψ,ψâ€ČJ/\psi, \psi^\prime, and ηc,ηcâ€Č\eta_c, \eta_c^\prime, and find that the predicted relative decay rates of these four states are approximately compatible with experimental data.Comment: 8 pages, LaTex, 1 figure, one footnote and two references adde

    ΄(nS)\Upsilon(nS) and χb(nP)\chi_b(nP) production at hadron colliders in nonrelativistic QCD

    ΄(nS)\Upsilon(nS) and χb(nP)\chi_b(nP) (n=1,2,3) production at the LHC is studied at next-to-leading order in αs\alpha_s in nonrelativistic QCD. Feeddown contributions from higher χb\chi_b and ΄\Upsilon states are all considered for lower ΄\Upsilon cross sections and polarizations. The long distance matrix elements (LDMEs) are extracted from the yield data, and then used to make predictions for the ΄(nS)\Upsilon(nS) polarizations, which are found to be consistent with the measured polarization data within errors. In particular, the ΄(3S)\Upsilon(3S) polarization puzzle can be understood by a large feeddown contribution from χb(3P)\chi_b(3P) states. Our results may provide a good description for both cross sections and polarizations of prompt ΄(nS)\Upsilon(nS) and χb(nP)\chi_b(nP) production at the LHC.Comment: The text and abstract are substantially changed due to the change in the fitting procedure: we now extract LDMEs of ΄(nS)\Upsilon(nS) and χbnP\chi_b{nP} by fitting the yield data of the LHC (including cross sections measured by ATLAS, CMS, and LHCb), and then make predictions for the polarizations of $\Upsilon(nS)

    A Uniform Description of the States Recently Observed at B-factories

    The newly found states Y(4260), Y(4361), Y(4664) and Z±^\pm(4430) stir broad interest in the study of spectroscopy in a typical charmonium scale. The Y(4260) which was observed earlier has been interpreted as hybrid, molecular state, and baryonium, etc. In this note we show for the first time that these new structures, which are hard to be interpreted as charmonium states, can be systematically embedded into an extended baryonium picture. According to this assignment, the so far known characters of these states are understandable. And, in the same framework, we make some predictions for experimenters to measure in the future.Comment: 6 pages in Latex. to appear in J.Phys.

    How Resonances can synchronise with Thresholds

    The mechanism by which a threshold may capture a resonance is examined. It involves a threshold cusp interfering constructively with either or both (i) a resonance produced via confinement, (ii) attractive t- and u-channel exchanges. The fo(980), X(3872) and Z(4430) are studied in detail. The fo(980) provides a valuable model of the locking mechanism. The X(3872) is too narrow to be fitted by a cusp, and requires either a resonance or virtual state. The Z(4430) can be fitted as a resonance but also can be fitted successfully by a cusp with no nearby resonant pole.Comment: 19 pages, 6 figures. Replaces 0709.125

    Search for the standard model Higgs boson in the H to ZZ to 2l 2nu channel in pp collisions at sqrt(s) = 7 TeV

    A search for the standard model Higgs boson in the H to ZZ to 2l 2nu decay channel, where l = e or mu, in pp collisions at a center-of-mass energy of 7 TeV is presented. The data were collected at the LHC, with the CMS detector, and correspond to an integrated luminosity of 4.6 inverse femtobarns. No significant excess is observed above the background expectation, and upper limits are set on the Higgs boson production cross section. The presence of the standard model Higgs boson with a mass in the 270-440 GeV range is excluded at 95% confidence level.Comment: Submitted to JHE

    Search for anomalous t t-bar production in the highly-boosted all-hadronic final state

    A search is presented for a massive particle, generically referred to as a Z', decaying into a t t-bar pair. The search focuses on Z' resonances that are sufficiently massive to produce highly Lorentz-boosted top quarks, which yield collimated decay products that are partially or fully merged into single jets. The analysis uses new methods to analyze jet substructure, providing suppression of the non-top multijet backgrounds. The analysis is based on a data sample of proton-proton collisions at a center-of-mass energy of 7 TeV, corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 5 inverse femtobarns. Upper limits in the range of 1 pb are set on the product of the production cross section and branching fraction for a topcolor Z' modeled for several widths, as well as for a Randall--Sundrum Kaluza--Klein gluon. In addition, the results constrain any enhancement in t t-bar production beyond expectations of the standard model for t t-bar invariant masses larger than 1 TeV.Comment: Submitted to the Journal of High Energy Physics; this version includes a minor typo correction that will be submitted as an erratu
