Comparison of the INRIM and PTB lattice-spacing standards

To base the kilogram definition on the atomic mass of the silicon 28 atom, the present relative uncertainty of the silicon 28 lattice parameter must lowered to 3E-9. To achieve this goal, a new experimental apparatus capable of a centimetre measurement-baseline has been made at the INRIM. The comparison between the determinations of the lattice parameter of crystals MO*4 of INRIM and WASO4.2a of PTB is intended to verify the measurement capabilities and to assess the limits of this experiment.Comment: 10 pages, 8 figures, submitted to Metrologi

We present an exploratory study conducted with 160 engineering students in order to characterize anddescribe the representations that share about Physics. We used a qualitative and quantitative methodologywith an interpretative approach. We applied a hierarchical evocation test and analyzed the content andstructure of the representation. The results suggest a representative process in progress, characterized bycentral elements of the domain of mechanics and concepts relating to the vision of science that began tobe introduced in the representational fi eld. The results are discussed in the light of those obtained in otherstudies and the research theoretical and methodological decisions

The objective of this study is to explore the ways of reviving a traditional dance called Bara which has been abandoned in the rural commune of Pogo in the Segou region of Mali. Nowadays, the threats to the Bara are enormous: the expansion of modern dances and Islam. The question is how to reinvigorate the customary Bara dance in the Bamanan environment in the rural commune of Pogo? This research, carried out using a methodology of qualitative and quantitative surveys among the population, reveals that the Bara dance is a very threatened Bamanan cultural heritage. Only the elderly know it. Young people do not know the Bara because it has been abandoned. The results of the study show that the Bara is a popular dance of rejoicing. It is a dance originating from Segou and is performed in three parts. The end-of-year festival was the main occasion for the organisation of the Bara. Nowadays the revival of the Bara could be achieved through the annual performances of the masks and other cultural events such as the Independence Day.

Topical and Systemic Cannabidiol Improves Trinitrobenzene Sulfonic Acid Colitis in Mice

    Get PDF
Background/Aims: Compounds of Cannabis sativa are known to exert anti-inflammatory properties, some of them without inducing psychotropic side effects. Cannabidiol (CBD) is such a side effect-free phytocannabinoid that improves chemically induced colitis in rodents when given intraperitoneally. Here, we tested the possibility whether rectal and oral application of CBD would also ameliorate colonic inflammation, as these routes of application may represent a more appropriate way for delivering drugs in human colitis. Methods: Colitis was induced in CD1 mice by trinitrobenzene sulfonic acid. Individual groups were either treated with CBD intraperitoneally (10 mg/kg), orally (20 mg/kg) or intrarectally (20 mg/kg). Colitis was evaluated by macroscopic scoring, histopathology and the myeloperoxidase (MPO) assay. Results: Intraperitoneal treatment of mice with CBD led to improvement of colonic inflammation. Intrarectal treatment with CBD also led to a significant improvement of disease parameters and to a decrease in MPO activity while oral treatment, using the same dose as per rectum, had no ameliorating effect on colitis. Conclusion: The data of this study indicate that in addition to intraperitoneal application, intrarectal delivery of cannabinoids may represent a useful therapeutic administration route for the treatment of colonic inflammation. On June 22, 2012 the First Symposium of Ichthyosis Experts in Spain was held at the Hospital Niño de JesĂșs in Madrid. It was a one-day symposium for dermatologists, pediatricians, and physicians-in-training interested in this disease, as well as for other health care professionals involved in the care of patients with ichthyosis. The aim of the meeting was to try to structure the care of ichthyosis patients in Spain. As happens in other rare diseases, because of the low prevalence of ichthyosis and the absence of designated referral centers, the number of patients treated in each center is very low and few dermatologists have any real clinical experience with this condition or know how to order diagnostic genetic tests. This article summarizes the presentations given at the symposium and is intended as a reference for anyone interested in the subject. Pathophysiology of Keratinization Disorders / Ángela HernĂĄndez . -- Extracutaneous Manifestations of Ichthyosis / Antonio Torrelo . -- New Clinical Classification of the Ichthyoses / RaĂșl de Lucas . -- Use of Histologic Diagnosis in Ichthyosis / Fernando Casco . -- Genetic Diagnosis of Ichthyosis / Rogelio GonzĂĄlez Sarmiento . -- The Multidisciplinary Approach in Ichthyosis: Psychological Care / JosĂ© Luis Pedreira Massa . -- Collodion Baby and Congenital Erythroderma: Clinical Management and Course / Heiko Traupe . -- Treatment of Ichthyosis / Heiko Traupe . -- Lessons Learned from Experience / Pablo de Unamuno . -- Looking Towards the Future: Humanized Models of Ichthyosis and other Hyperkeratotic Disorders / Fernando Larcher, Marcela del RĂo . -- What Patients Need / The Leader ship Team of the Spanish Ichthyosis Association . -- Conclusions / Ángela HernĂĄndezPublicad
