Evidence for hadronic deconfinement in -p collisions at 1.8 TeV
We have measured deconfined hadronic volumes, fm,
produced by a one dimensional (1D) expansion. These volumes are directly
proportional to the charged particle pseudorapidity densities . The hadronization temperature is (syst)
MeV. Using Bjorken's 1D model,the hadronization energy density is (stat) GeV/fm corresponding to an excitation of (stat) quark-gluon degrees of freedom.Comment: 15 pages, 3 figures, 2 table

Study of Resistive Micromegas in a Mixed Neutron and Photon Radiation Field
The Muon ATLAS Micromegas Activity (MAMMA) focuses on the development and
testing of large-area muon detectors based on the bulk-Micromegas technology.
These detectors are candidates for the upgrade of the ATLAS Muon System in view
of the luminosity upgrade of Large Hadron Collider at CERN (sLHC). They will
combine trigger and precision measurement capability in a single device. A
novel protection scheme using resistive strips above the readout electrode has
been developed. The response and sparking properties of resistive Micromegas
detectors were successfully tested in a mixed (neutron and gamma) high
radiation field supplied by the Tandem accelerator, at the N.C.S.R. Demokritos
in Athens. Monte-Carlo studies have been employed to study the effect of 5.5
MeV neutrons impinging on Micromegas detectors. The response of the Micromegas
detectors on the photons originating from the inevitable neutron inelastic
scattering on the surrounding materials of the experimental facility was also
studied
Financial Deregulation and Economic Distress: Is There a Future for Financial Co-operatives?
The last years have witnessed a wide reshaping of the banking scene. According to researchers and authorities, the aftermath of these developments include an increased risk of demarketing of the conventional banking system towards certain customer segmentations and marginal areas and activities. Recently the banking scene has deteriorated, especially at the local level, as the financial crisis increased the scarcity of readily available, sufficient and reliable services. Behind the current crisis seems to be the influential corporate governance of dominant financial institutions, which introduced innovative products that resulted in less transparency and created uncertainty and a lack of trust toward and within the financial system. The present paper argues that this new reality can be thought of as giving new opportunities for financial co-operatives to increase their importance among the market and areas that they historically serve. The paper bases its analysis on the development pattern of the financial co-operatives of Italy and Greece and outlines the critical path that the financial co-operatives should follow in order to provide efficient (and crucial for local development banking) services and products. It is argued that these changes can be exploited only if the financial co-operatives would be able to transform without losing their basic values. Further, this route goes through the development of new strategies and in certain cases of the modernization of their services. Management Matters
New indications of managerial innovations are created and then used to show that changes in organizational technologies are an important source of economic growth. Specifically, the analysis demonstrates that, first, in response to a positive managerial technology shock, output, productivity and hours significantly increase in the short run, second, these types of innovations are as important as non-managerial ones in explaining movements in these variables at business cycle frequencies, and, third, product and process innovations promote the development of new managerial techniques.Business Cycles; Productivity; Management techniques; Technical Change
Exploring the Behavior of Economic Agents: the role of relative preferences
Standard economic theory assumes individuals choose actions that optimize their expected utility. In this paper we investigate how the existence of players with non-standard preferences may influence economic agents' behavior in some of the most frequently studied non-cooperative games. We find that allowing for the existence of agents with relative preferences can help explain observed economic actions which, at times, appear counter-intuitive.
K^L_{mu3} decay: A first evidence of Right-Handed Quark Currents ?
The experimental results published by KTeV and the preliminary results from
NA48 concerning the slope of the Kpi scalar form factor suggest a significant
discrepancy with the prediction of the Callan-Treiman low energy theorem once
interpreted within the Standard Model. In this talk, we will show how this
discrepancy could be explained as a first evidence of the direct coupling of
right-handed quarks to W as suggested by certain type of effective electroweak
