    Digital Library: Link to E-learning

    Today ’s library includes sophisticated tools that make it easy to find the best information resources, delivering them to one’s desktop or mobile computing device at the push of a button. While there are still many challenges to realizing the potential of digital information, digital library technologies and practices have developed enough so they are within reach of every type and size of educational institution. This paper presents the key concepts of what the digital library can be, its key components, link to e-learning and the Campus Enterprise and some of the future directions. It is clear that digital library technology is becoming an essential enabler of library services

    Observational study of vaginal culture in symptomatic and asymptomatic non pregnant female patient in tertiary care hospital

    Background: Vaginal miroflora plays an important role in maintaining healthy microenvironment. Lactobacilli are the dominant flora responsible for this. Any disturbance in balance of normal and abnormal flora leads to different types of vaginal infections like, vulvo-vaginal candidiasis, and bacterial vaginosis. Most common organisms causing vaginitis is Gardnerella vaginalis which causes bacterial vaginosis. Other organisms responsible for infections are, candida, trichomonas, and viruses. Abnormal growth of pathogenic bacteria during pregnancy can lead to various adverse pregnancy outcomes. Methods: This is an observational study conducted in a tertiary care hospital over a period of 6 months (January 2023 to June 2023). Overall, out of 135 women, sample of 120 women were taken and treated accordingly. Results: Among 120 women, 52 (43.3%) women had no growth on culture, while 20 patients (16.6%) showed growth of Klebsiella and 20 (16.6%) patient shows Candida and rest shows growth of other pathogen. Conclusions: In our study, half of the women were found to be with positive culture report, who shown improvement after treatment

    Implementing the sterile insect technique with RNA interference – a review

    RNA interference (RNAi) of insect pests is reviewed and its potential for implementing Sterile Insect Technique (SIT)-related control is considered. The molecular mechanisms that support RNAi in pest species are reviewed in detail, drawing on literature from a range of species including Drosophila melanogaster and Homo sapiens. The underlying genes that enable RNAi are generally conserved across taxa, although variance exists in both their form and function. RNAi represents a plausible, non-GM system for targeting populations of insects for control purposes, if RNA interference (RNAi) effector molecules can be delivered environmentally (eRNAi). We consider studies of eRNAi from across several insect orders and review to what extent taxonomy, genetics and differing methods of double stranded (ds)RNA synthesis and delivery can influence the efficiency of gene knockdown. Several factors, including the secondary structure of the target mRNA and the specific nucleotide sequence of dsRNA effector molecules, can affect the potency of eRNAi. However, taxonomic relationships between insects cannot be used to reliably forecast the efficiency of an eRNAi response. The mechanisms by which insects acquire dsRNA from their environment require further research, but the evidence to date suggests that endocytosis and transport channels both play key roles. Delivery of RNA molecules packaged in intermediary carriers such as bacteria or nanoparticles may facilitate their entry into and through the gut, and enable the evasion of host defense systems, such as toxic pH, that would otherwise attenuate the potential for RNAi

    Unutilized pine needles are not only a significant issue of environmental hazards like recurrent forest fires and green house gas emission but also a wastage of resources. The pine needles can be used efficiently for electricity generation. In the present study, simulation research on a grid-connected, sustainable, biomass based hybrid energy system was conceived to examine the feasibility in the western Himalayan territory, and locally available abundant pine needle is used as biomass resource with solar and wind resources as a fuel. The Hybrid Optimization of Multiple Energy Resources (HOMER) software is used to model three distinct configurations of hybrid systems, PV/BM/Grid, PV/BM/WT/Grid, and only Grid for feeding electricity to selected educational building loads currently run by state grid. The analysis found that PV/BM/Grid has the lowest cost of energy 0.102 /unitwithTNPC/unit with TNPC 42081 and 83% renewable fraction at 0% capacity shortage. The environmental analysis shows that the proposed system will save around 27815 kg CO2/year (equated to the diesel-only system). The outcomes are found to be very pertinent to policy creators, hybrid system designers, and investors in the field of biomass-based hybrid renewable energy systems

    Cysticercosis is an infection with the larval (cysticercus) stage of Taenia solium. The larvae form cysts commonly in brain, meninges, and eyes, which together constitute 86% of cases with remainder located in the muscles, heart, lungs, and peritoneum. Cases in the maxillofacial region, including tongue and cheek muscles are rare. We report a rare case of cysticercosis involving right masseter muscle presenting as a facial swelling, diagnosed on the basis of fine-needle aspiration cytology and high-resolution ultrasonography and managed conservatively

    Synthesis, Characterization, and Biological Evaluation of Some 3d-Metal Complexes of Schiff Base Derived from Xipamide Drug

    The present paper deals with the synthesis and characterization of metal complexes of Schiff base derived from xipamide, a diuretic drug. The bidentate ligand is derived from the inserted condensation of 5-aminosulfonyl-4-chloro-N-2,6-dimethyl phenyl-2-hydroxybenzamide (Xipamide) with salicylaldehyde in a 1 : 1 molar ratio. Using this bidentate ligand, complexes of Hg(II), Zn(II), and VO(IV) with general formula ML2 have been synthesized. The synthesized complexes were characterized by several techniques using molar conductance, elemental analysis, magnetic susceptibility, FT-IR spectroscopy, electronic spectra, mass spectra, and particle size analysis. The elemental analysis data suggest the stoichiometry to be 1 : 2 [M : L]. All the complexes are nonelectrolytic in nature as suggested by molar conductance measurements. Infrared spectral data indicate the coordination between the ligand and the central metal ion through deprotonated phenolic oxygen and azomethine nitrogen atoms. Spectral studies suggest tetrahedral geometry for Hg(II), Zn(II) complexes, and square pyramidal geometry for VO(IV) complex. The pure drug, synthesized ligand, and metal complexes were screened for their antifungal activities against Aspergillus niger and Aspergillus flavus. The ligand and its Hg(II) and VO(IV) complexes were screened for their diuretic activity too
