    International audienceAt the 28nm technology node and below, hot spot prediction and process window control across production wafers have become increasingly critical. We establish proof of concept for ASML's holistic lithography hot spot detection and defect monitoring flow, process window optimizer (PWO), for a 28nm metal layer process. We demonstrate prediction and verification of defect occurenceon wafer that arise from focus variations exceeding process window margins of device hotspots. We also estimate the improvement potential if design aware scanner control was applied

    Postmortem human chorionic gonadotrophin (HCG) blood assay can confirm postmortem diagnosis of pregnancy or document situations in which HCG levels are elevated. In some cases, however, blood sampling is not possible at autopsy. In this study, HCG was quantified by enzyme-linked fluorescent assay (ELFA) in the bile (n = 5), vitreous humor (n = 4), and postmortem blood (n = 4) of five pregnant women. There were no false negatives in the pregnant subjects (n = 5) or false positives in controls (n = 34), enabling this test to be recommended for routine use in forensic contexts in which the detection of elevated HCG levels could be of interest

    Genetic profiling and surface proteome analysis of human atrial stromal cells and rat ventricular epicardium-derived cells reveals novel insights into their cardiogenic potential

    Epicardium-derived cells (EPDC) and atrial stromal cells (ASC) display cardio-regenerative potential, but the molecular details are still unexplored. Signals which induce activation, migration and differentiation of these cells are largely unknown. Here we have isolated rat ventricular EPDC and rat/human ASC and performed genetic and proteomic profiling. EPDC and ASC expressed epicardial/mesenchymal markers (WT-1, Tbx18, CD73, CD90, CD44, CD105), cardiac markers (Gata4, Tbx5, troponin T) and also contained phosphocreatine. We used cell surface biotinylation to isolate plasma membrane proteins of rEPDC and hASC, Nano-liquid chromatography with subsequent mass spectrometry and bioinformatics analysis identified 396 rat and 239 human plasma membrane proteins with 149 overlapping proteins. Functional GO-term analysis revealed several significantly enriched categories related to extracellular matrix (ECM), cell migration/differentiation, immunology or angiogenesis. We identified receptors for ephrin and growth factors (IGF, PDGF, EGF, anthrax toxin) known to be involved in cardiac repair and regeneration. Functional category enrichment identified clusters around integrins, PI3K/Akt-signaling and various cardiomyopathies. Our study indicates that EPDC and ASC have a similar molecular phenotype related to cardiac healing/regeneration. The cell surface proteome repository will help to further unravel the molecular details of their cardio-regenerative potential and their role in cardiac diseases

    Guidelines towards an integrated ocean observation system for ecosystems and biogeochemical cycles

    The observation of biogeochemical cycles and ecosystems has traditionally been based on ship-based platforms. The obvious consequence is that the measured properties have been dramatically undersampled. Recent technological advances in miniature, low power biogeochemical sensors and autonomous platforms open remarkable perspectives for observing the “biological” ocean, notably at critical spatio-temporal scales which have been out of reach until present. The availability of this new observation technology thus makes it possible to envision the development of a globally integrated observation system that would serve both scientific as well as operational needs. This in situ systemm should be fully designed and implemented in tight synergy with two other essential elements of an ocean observation system, first satellite ocean color radiometry and second advanced numerical models of biogeochemical cycles and ecosystems
