Surveying Nearby Brown Dwarfs with HGCA: Direct Imaging Discovery of a Faint, High-Mass Brown Dwarf Orbiting HD 176535 A
Brown dwarfs with well-measured masses, ages and luminosities provide direct
benchmark tests of substellar formation and evolutionary models. We report the
first results from a direct imaging survey aiming to find and characterize
substellar companions to nearby accelerating stars with the assistance of the
Hipparcos-Gaia Catalog of Accelerations (HGCA). In this paper, we present a
joint high-contrast imaging and astrometric discovery of a substellar companion
to HD 176535 A, a K3.5V main-sequence star aged approximately
Gyrs at a distance of pc. In advance of
our high-contrast imaging observations, we combined precision HARPS RVs and
HGCA astrometry to predict the potential companion's location and mass. We
thereafter acquired two nights of KeckAO/NIRC2 direct imaging observations in
the band, which revealed a companion with a contrast of mag at a projected separation of 0.\!\!''35
(13 AU) from the host star. We revise our orbital fit by incorporating
our dual-epoch relative astrometry using the open-source MCMC orbit fitting
code . HD 176535 B is a new benchmark dwarf useful for constraining
the evolutionary and atmospheric models of high-mass brown dwarfs. We found a
luminosity of and a model-dependent
effective temperature of K for HD 176535 B. Our dynamical mass
suggests that some substellar evolutionary models may be underestimating
luminosity for high-mass T dwarfs. Given its angular separation and luminosity,
HD 176535 B would make a promising candidate for Aperture Masking
Interferometry with JWST and GRAVITY/KPIC, and further spectroscopic
characterization with instruments like the CHARIS/SCExAO/Subaru integral field
spectrograph
The INTEGRAL Galactic bulge monitoring program: the first 1.5 years
The Galactic bulge region is a rich host of variable high-energy point
sources. Since 2005, February 17 we are monitoring the source activity in this
region about every three days with INTEGRAL. Thanks to the large field of view,
the imaging capabilities and the sensitivity at hard X-rays, we are able to
present for the first time a detailed homogeneous (hard) X-ray view of a sample
of 76 sources in the Galactic bulge region. We describe the successful
monitoring program and show the first results for a period of about one and a
half year. We focus on the short (hour), medium (month) and long-term (year)
variability in the 20-60 keV and 60-150 keV bands. When available, we discuss
the simultaneous observations in the 3-10 keV and 10-25 keV bands. Per
visibility season we detect 32/33 sources in the 20-60 keV band and 8/9 sources
in the 60-150 keV band. On average, we find per visibility season one active
bright (>~100 mCrab, 20-60 keV) black-hole candidate X-ray transient and three
active weaker (<~25 mCrab, 20-60 keV) neutron star X-ray transients. Most of
the time a clear anti-correlation can be seen between the soft and hard X-ray
emission in some of the X-ray bursters. Hard X-ray flares or outbursts in X-ray
bursters, which have a duration of the order of weeks, are accompanied by soft
X-ray drops. On the other hand, hard X-ray drops can be accompanied by soft
X-ray flares/outbursts. We found a number of new sources, IGR J17354-3255, IGR
17453-2853, IGR J17454-2703, IGR J17456-2901b, IGR J17536-2339, and IGR
J17541-2252. We report here on some of the high-energy properties of these
sources. The high-energy light curves of all the sources in the field of view,
and the high-energy images of the region, are made available through the WWW at

Study of e+e- --> pi+ pi- pi0 process using initial state radiation with BABAR
The process e+e- --> pi+ pi- pi0 gamma has been studied at a center-of-mass
energy near the Y(4S) resonance using a 89.3 fb-1 data sample collected with
the BaBar detector at the PEP-II collider. From the measured 3pi mass spectrum
we have obtained the products of branching fractions for the omega and phi
mesons, B(omega --> e+e-)B(omega --> 3pi)=(6.70 +/- 0.06 +/- 0.27)10-5 and
B(phi --> e+e-)B(phi --> 3pi)=(4.30 +/- 0.08 +/- 0.21)10-5, and evaluated the
e+e- --> pi+ pi- pi0 cross section for the e+e- center-of-mass energy range
1.05 to 3.00 GeV. About 900 e+e- --> J/psi gamma --> pi+ pi- pi0 gamma events
have been selected and the branching fraction B(J/psi --> pi+ pi- pi0)=(2.18

Measurement of the quasi-elastic axial vector mass in neutrino-oxygen interactions
The weak nucleon axial-vector form factor for quasi-elastic interactions is
determined using neutrino interaction data from the K2K Scintillating Fiber
detector in the neutrino beam at KEK. More than 12,000 events are analyzed, of
which half are charged-current quasi-elastic interactions nu-mu n to mu- p
occurring primarily in oxygen nuclei. We use a relativistic Fermi gas model for
oxygen and assume the form factor is approximately a dipole with one parameter,
the axial vector mass M_A, and fit to the shape of the distribution of the
square of the momentum transfer from the nucleon to the nucleus. Our best fit
result for M_A = 1.20 \pm 0.12 GeV. Furthermore, this analysis includes updated
vector form factors from recent electron scattering experiments and a
discussion of the effects of the nucleon momentum on the shape of the fitted

Measurement of Branching Fraction and Dalitz Distribution for B0->D(*)+/- K0 pi-/+ Decays
We present measurements of the branching fractions for the three-body decays
B0 -> D(*)-/+ K0 pi^+/-B0 -> D(*)-/+ K*+/- using
a sample of approximately 88 million BBbar pairs collected by the BABAR
detector at the PEP-II asymmetric energy storage ring.
We measure:
B(B0->D-/+ K0 pi+/-)=(4.9 +/- 0.7(stat) +/- 0.5 (syst)) 10^{-4}
B(B0->D*-/+ K0 pi+/-)=(3.0 +/- 0.7(stat) +/- 0.3 (syst)) 10^{-4}

Search for the W-exchange decays B0 --> Ds(*)- Ds(*)+
We report a search for the decays , , in a sample of 232
million decays to \BBb ~pairs collected with the \babar detector
at the PEP-II asymmetric-energy storage ring. We find no significant

Measurement of the B+ --> p pbar K+ Branching Fraction and Study of the Decay Dynamics
With a sample of 232x10^6 Upsilon(4S) --> BBbar events collected with the
BaBar detector, we study the decay B+ --> p pbar K+ excluding charmonium decays
to ppbar. We measure a branching fraction Br(B+ --> p pbar
K+)=(6.7+/-0.5+/-0.4)x10^{-6}. An enhancement at low ppbar mass is observed and
the Dalitz plot asymmetry suggests dominance of the penguin amplitude in this B
decay. We search for a pentaquark candidate Theta*++ decaying into pK+ in the
mass range 1.43 to 2.00 GeV/c2 and set limits on Br(B+ -->

Heavy quarkonium: progress, puzzles, and opportunities
A golden age for heavy quarkonium physics dawned a decade ago, initiated by
the confluence of exciting advances in quantum chromodynamics (QCD) and an
explosion of related experimental activity. The early years of this period were
chronicled in the Quarkonium Working Group (QWG) CERN Yellow Report (YR) in
2004, which presented a comprehensive review of the status of the field at that
time and provided specific recommendations for further progress. However, the
broad spectrum of subsequent breakthroughs, surprises, and continuing puzzles
could only be partially anticipated. Since the release of the YR, the BESII
program concluded only to give birth to BESIII; the -factories and CLEO-c
flourished; quarkonium production and polarization measurements at HERA and the
Tevatron matured; and heavy-ion collisions at RHIC have opened a window on the
deconfinement regime. All these experiments leave legacies of quality,
precision, and unsolved mysteries for quarkonium physics, and therefore beg for
continuing investigations. The plethora of newly-found quarkonium-like states
unleashed a flood of theoretical investigations into new forms of matter such
as quark-gluon hybrids, mesonic molecules, and tetraquarks. Measurements of the
spectroscopy, decays, production, and in-medium behavior of c\bar{c}, b\bar{b},
and b\bar{c} bound states have been shown to validate some theoretical
approaches to QCD and highlight lack of quantitative success for others. The
intriguing details of quarkonium suppression in heavy-ion collisions that have
emerged from RHIC have elevated the importance of separating hot- and
cold-nuclear-matter effects in quark-gluon plasma studies. This review
systematically addresses all these matters and concludes by prioritizing

Government Assistance and Total Factor Productivity: Firm-level Evidence from China
Industrial policy, particularly through the provision of large-scale assistance to industry in the form of âtax holidaysâ and subsidies to firms, is very important in China. A major contribution of this paper is to introduce firm-level measures of assistance directly into industry-level production functions determining firm output using Chinese firm-level panel data for 1998-2007 and analysing the impact of government assistance on TFP at the firm-level. Our results indicate inverted U-shaped gains from assistance: across the 26 industries considered, firms receiving assistance rates of 1-10%, 10-19%, 20-49% and 50+% experienced on average 4.5%, 9.4%, 9.2% and -3% gains in TFP level, respectively. We then decompose the growth of TFP and relate it to assistance and formal political connections between firms and the government. We find in general firms receiving assistance contributed relatively more to TFP growth than non-assisted firms. However, this was largely through new firms being âencouragedâ to start-up rather than through firms open throughout 1998 to 2007 improving. There is also evidence that closure rates were truncated as a result of assistance. Moreover, the better results for assisted firms was very much âdrivenâ by a sub-group that received assistance but had no formal political connections and were not State-owned
