Recent developments in unconventional superconductivity theory
The review of recent developments in the unconventional superconductivity
theory is given. In the fist part I consider the physical origin of the Kerr
rotation polarization of light reflected from the surface of superconducting
. Then the comparison of magneto-optical responses in
superconductors with orbital and spin spontaneous magnetization is presented.
The latter result is applied to the estimation of the magneto-optical
properties of neutral superfluids with spontaneous magnetization. The second
part is devoted to the natural optical activity or gyrotropy properties of
noncentrosymmetric metals in their normal and superconducting states. The
temperature behavior of the gyrotropy coefficient is compared with the
temperature behavior of paramagnetic susceptibility determining the noticeable
increase of the paramagnetic limiting field in noncentrosymmetric
superconductors. In the last chapter I describe the order parameter and the
symmetry of superconducting state in the itinerant ferromagnet with
orthorhombic symmetry. Finally the Josephson coupling between two adjacent
ferromagnet superconducting domains is discussed.Comment: 15 page
The in-plane paraconductivity in La_{2-x}Sr_xCuO_4 thin film superconductors at high reduced-temperatures: Independence of the normal-state pseudogap
The in-plane resistivity has been measured in (LSxCO)
superconducting thin films of underdoped (), optimally-doped
() and overdoped () compositions. These films were grown
on (100)SrTiO substrates, and have about 150 nm thickness. The in-plane
conductivity induced by superconducting fluctuations above the superconducting
transition (the so-called in-plane paraconductivity, ) was
extracted from these data in the reduced-temperature range
10^{-2}\lsim\epsilon\equiv\ln(T/\Tc)\lsim1. Such a
was then analyzed in terms of the
mean-field--like Gaussian-Ginzburg-Landau (GGL) approach extended to the
high- region by means of the introduction of a total-energy cutoff,
which takes into account both the kinetic energy and the quantum localization
energy of each fluctuating mode. Our results strongly suggest that at all
temperatures above Tc, including the high reduced-temperature region, the
doping mainly affects in LSxCO thin films the normal-state properties and that
its influence on the superconducting fluctuations is relatively moderate: Even
in the high- region, the in-plane paraconductivity is found to be
independent of the opening of a pseudogap in the normal state of the underdoped
films.Comment: 35 pages including 10 figures and 1 tabl
Nonlinear Time Series Analysis of Sunspot Data
This paper deals with the analysis of sunspot number time series using the
Hurst exponent. We use the rescaled range (R/S) analysis to estimate the Hurst
exponent for 259-year and 11360-year sunspot data. The results show a varying
degree of persistence over shorter and longer time scales corresponding to
distinct values of the Hurst exponent. We explain the presence of these
multiple Hurst exponents by their resemblance to the deterministic chaotic
attractors having multiple centers of rotation.Comment: 10 pages, 6 figures, accepted for publication in Solar Physics,

A Real Space Description of Magnetic Field Induced Melting in the Charge Ordered Manganites: I. The Clean Limit
We study the melting of charge order in the half doped manganites using a
model that incorporates double exchange, antiferromagnetic superexchange, and
Jahn-Teller coupling between electrons and phonons. We primarily use a real
space Monte Carlo technique to study the phase diagram in terms of applied
field and temperature , exploring the melting of charge order with
increasing and its recovery on decreasing . We observe hysteresis in
this response, and discover that the `field melted' high conductance state can
be spatially inhomogeneous even without extrinsic disorder. The hysteretic
response plays out in the background of field driven equilibrium phase
separation. Our results, exploring , , and the electronic parameter
space, are backed up by analysis of simpler limiting cases and a Landau
framework for the field response. This paper focuses on our results in the
`clean' systems, a companion paper studies the effect of cation disorder on the
melting phenomena.Comment: 16 pages, pdflatex, 11 png fig
Anisotropy in mechanical properties and fracture behavior of an oxide dispersion Fe20Cr5Al alloy
Anisotropy of fracture toughness and fracture behavior of Fe20Cr5Al oxide dispersion-strengthened alloy has been investigated by means of compression tests, hardness tests, and wedge splitting test. The results show a small effect of the compression direction on yield strength (YS) and strain hardening. The YS is minimum for longitudinal direction and maximum for the tangential direction. The transverse plastic strain ratio is similar for tangential and longitudinal directions but very different from that in normal direction. Hardness depends on the indentation plane; it is lower for any plane parallel to the L-T plane and of similar magnitude for the other orthogonal planes, i.e., the L-S and T-S planes. Macroscopically, two failure modes have been observed after wedge-splitting tests, those of LS and TS specimens in which fracture deviates along one or two branches normal to the notch plane, and those of LT, TL, SL, and ST specimens in which fracture propagates along the notch plane. Besides LT and TL specimens present delaminations parallel to L-T plane. Both, the fracture surface of branching cracks and that of the delaminations, show an intergranular brittle fracture appearance. It is proposed that the main cause of the delamination and crack branching is the alignment in the mesoscopic scale of the ultrafine grains structure which is enhanced by the ă110ă- texture of the material and by the presence in the grain boundaries of both yttria dispersoids and impurity contaminations. An elastoplastic finite element analysis was performed to study what stress state is the cause of the branches and delaminations. It is concluded that the normal to the crack branches and/or the shear stress components could determine the crack bifurcation mechanism, whereas the delamination it seems that it is controlled by the magnitude of the stress component normal to the delamination plane. © The Minerals, Metals & Materials Society and ASM International 2014.Peer Reviewe
COVAD survey 2 long-term outcomes: unmet need and protocol
Vaccine hesitancy is considered a major barrier to achieving herd immunity against COVID-19. While multiple alternative and synergistic approaches including heterologous vaccination, booster doses, and antiviral drugs have been developed, equitable vaccine uptake remains the foremost strategy to manage pandemic. Although none of the currently approved vaccines are live-attenuated, several reports of disease flares, waning protection, and acute-onset syndromes have emerged as short-term adverse events after vaccination. Hence, scientific literature falls short when discussing potential long-term effects in vulnerable cohorts. The COVAD-2 survey follows on from the baseline COVAD-1 survey with the aim to collect patient-reported data on the long-term safety and tolerability of COVID-19 vaccines in immune modulation. The e-survey has been extensively pilot-tested and validated with translations into multiple languages. Anticipated results will help improve vaccination efforts and reduce the imminent risks of COVID-19 infection, especially in understudied vulnerable groups
Measurement of the View the tt production cross-section using eÎŒ events with b-tagged jets in pp collisions at âs = 13 TeV with the ATLAS detector
This paper describes a measurement of the inclusive top quark pair production cross-section (ÏttÂŻ) with a data sample of 3.2 fbâ1 of protonâproton collisions at a centre-of-mass energy of âs = 13 TeV, collected in 2015 by the ATLAS detector at the LHC. This measurement uses events with an opposite-charge electronâmuon pair in the final state. Jets containing b-quarks are tagged using an algorithm based on track impact parameters and reconstructed secondary vertices. The numbers of events with exactly one and exactly two b-tagged jets are counted and used to determine simultaneously ÏttÂŻ and the efficiency to reconstruct and b-tag a jet from a top quark decay, thereby minimising the associated systematic uncertainties. The cross-section is measured to be:
ÏttÂŻ = 818 ± 8 (stat) ± 27 (syst) ± 19 (lumi) ± 12 (beam) pb,
where the four uncertainties arise from data statistics, experimental and theoretical systematic effects, the integrated luminosity and the LHC beam energy, giving a total relative uncertainty of 4.4%. The result is consistent with theoretical QCD calculations at next-to-next-to-leading order. A fiducial measurement corresponding to the experimental acceptance of the leptons is also presented
