    Event shapes and azimuthal correlations in Z plus jets events in pp collisions at root s=7TeV^{√s=7 TeV}

The data collected with the CMS detector at the CERN LHC at s=7TeV^{√s=7 TeV} correspond to an integrated luminosity of 5.0 fb1^{-1}. The analysis provides a test of predictions from perturbative QCD for a process that represents a substantial background to many physics channels. Results are presented as a function of jet multiplicity, for inclusive Z boson production and for Z bosons with transverse momenta greater than 150 GeV, and compared to predictions from Monte Carlo event generators that include leading-order multiparton matrix-element (with up to four hard partons in the final state) and next-to-leading-order simulations of Z+1-jet events. The experimental results are corrected for detector effects, and can be compared directly with other QCD model

    This is the first part of the third volume of the four-volume series, a daring project of CEU Press, presenting the most important texts that triggered and shaped the processes of nation-building in the many countries of Central and Southeast Europe. The aim is to confront ‘mainstream’ and seemingly successful national discourses with each other, thus creating a space for analyzing those narratives of identity which became institutionalized as “national canons.” This is the first part of the third volume, containing 59 texts. This volume presents and illustrates the development of the ideologies of nation states, the “modern” successors of former empires. They exemplify the use modernist ideological framaeworks, from liberalism to socialism, in the context of the fundamental reconfiguration of the political system in this part of Europe between the 1860s and the 1930s. It also gives a panorama of the various solutions proposed for the national question in the region. Why, modernism and not modernity? Modernity implies the West, while modernism was the product of the periphery.     The Case On Assessment Of Spilled Oil With Mixed Free Product In Seoul

    The purpose of this study is to assess sources of contamination by analyzing the free product and oil compounds in groundwater near the Subway Station, located adjacent to the Yongsan Garrison in Seoul, Republic of Korea. All of the samples collected twice were groundwater and free product in a monitoring well. Analysis items are TPH fingerprinting, pristine/phytane ratio, alkylbenzene pattern, PAH&alkyl PAH, antioxidant, icing inhibitor, PIANO, element(C, N, H), and sulfur. Using ratio of pristine/phytane, we were able to distinguished fuel type between kerosene and JP-8 samples, which was impossible by GC/FID pattern. Alkyl benzene pattern was very effective in distinguishing between JP-8 and kerosene. It is very important that 2,4-dimethyl-6-tert-butyl phenol, an antioxidant used only for JP-8, was detected in free product samples. The concentration of sulfur in kerosene fuel is much lower than that of JP-8, and the total contents of sulfur in environmental samples can be used to differentiate the fuel type of spilled oil between kerosene and JP-8. In conclusion, according to the result of a variety of analytical methods to find the source of spilled fuel, it had been found that the fuel type detected in the tunnel of subway station and monitoring wells outside of Yongsan Garrison and the monitoring wells inside of Yongsan Garrison are the same

    Search for pair produced fourth-generation up-type quarks in pp collisions at root s=7 TeV with a lepton in the final state

    The results of a search for the pair production of a fourth-generation up-type quark (t') in proton-proton collisions at √s=7 TeV are presented, using data corresponding to an integrated luminosity of about 5.0 fb -1 collected by the Compact Muon Solenoid experiment at the LHC. The t' quark is assumed to decay exclusively to a W boson and a b quark. Events with a single isolated electron or muon, missing transverse momentum, and at least four hadronic jets, of which at least one must be identified as a b jet, are selected. No significant excess of events over standard model expectations is observed. Upper limits for the t't' production cross section at 95% confidence level are set as a function of t' mass, and t'-quark production for masses below 570 GeV is excluded. The search is equally sensitive to nonchiral heavy quarks decaying to Wb. In this case, the results can be interpreted as upper limits on the production cross section times the branching fraction to Wb. © 2012 CERN
