Proof of concept of energy harvesting from aeroacoustic noise
This paper reports the testing of a new mechanism converting energy radiated from an acoustic source, i.e. a small cavity created on an aircraft outside skin and inducing high frequency oscillations of airflow passing over it. This acoustic noise is then converted into electrical energy. We have submitted in a wind tunnel a set of cavities to an airflow varying the Mach number, creating high sound levels. In a second set of experiments, we have submitted passive microphones to high acoustic levels and stored in capacitors the electrical energy collected at the microphone output. Finally, directions for future work are identified
Impact of early complications on outcomes in patients with implantable cardioverter-defibrillator for primary prevention
International audienceBackground - The lifesaving benefit of implantable cardioverter-defibrillators (ICDs) has been demonstrated. Their use has increased considerably in the past decade, but related complications have become a major concern. Objective - The purpose of this study was to assess the incidence and effect on outcomes of early (â€30 days) complications after ICD implantation for primary prevention in a large French population. Methods - We analyzed data from 5539 patients from the multicenter French DAI-PP (DĂ©fibrillateur Automatique Implantable-PrĂ©vention Primaire) registry (2002-2012) who had coronary artery disease or dilated cardiomyopathy and were implanted with an ICD for primary prevention. Results - Overall, early complications occurred in 707 patients (13.5%), mainly related to lead dislodgment or hematoma (57%). Independent factors associated with occurrence of early complications were severe renal impairment (odds ratio [OR] 1.66, 95% confidence interval [CI] 1.17-2.37, P = .02), age â„75 years (OR 1.01, 95% CI 1.00-1.02, P = .03), cardiac resynchronization therapy (OR 1.58, 95% CI 1.16-2.17, P = .01), and anticoagulant therapy (OR 1.28, 95% CI 1.02-1.61, P = .03). During a mean ± SD follow-up of 3.1 ± 2.3 years, 824 (15.8%) patients experienced â„1 late complication (>30 days), and 782 (14.9%) patients died. After adjustment, early complications remained associated with occurrence of late complications (OR 2.15, 95% CI 1.73-2.66, P < .0001) and mortality (OR 1.70, 95% CI 1.34-2.17, P = .003). Conclusion - Early complications are common after ICD implantation for primary prevention, occurring in 1 in 7 patients, and are associated with an increased risk of late complications and overall mortality. Further studies are needed to investigate the underlying mechanisms of such associations
Molecular mechanisms of cell death: recommendations of the Nomenclature Committee on Cell Death 2018.
Over the past decade, the Nomenclature Committee on Cell Death (NCCD) has formulated guidelines for the definition and interpretation of cell death from morphological, biochemical, and functional perspectives. Since the field continues to expand and novel mechanisms that orchestrate multiple cell death pathways are unveiled, we propose an updated classification of cell death subroutines focusing on mechanistic and essential (as opposed to correlative and dispensable) aspects of the process. As we provide molecularly oriented definitions of terms including intrinsic apoptosis, extrinsic apoptosis, mitochondrial permeability transition (MPT)-driven necrosis, necroptosis, ferroptosis, pyroptosis, parthanatos, entotic cell death, NETotic cell death, lysosome-dependent cell death, autophagy-dependent cell death, immunogenic cell death, cellular senescence, and mitotic catastrophe, we discuss the utility of neologisms that refer to highly specialized instances of these processes. The mission of the NCCD is to provide a widely accepted nomenclature on cell death in support of the continued development of the field
Long-term cellular immunity of vaccines for Zaire Ebola Virus Diseases
Recent Ebola outbreaks underscore the importance of continuous prevention and disease control efforts. Authorized vaccines include Merckâs Ervebo (rVSV-ZEBOV) and Johnson & Johnsonâs two-dose combination (Ad26.ZEBOV/MVA-BN-Filo). Here, in a five-year follow-up of the PREVAC randomized trial (NCT02876328), we report the results of the immunology ancillary study of the trial. The primary endpoint is to evaluate long-term memory T-cell responses induced by three vaccine regimens: Ad26âMVA, rVSV, and rVSVâbooster. Polyfunctional EBOV-specific CD4+ T-cell responses increase after Ad26 priming and are further boosted by MVA, whereas minimal responses are observed in the rVSV groups, declining after one year. In-vitro expansion for eight days show sustained EBOV-specific T-cell responses for up to 60 months post-prime vaccination with both Ad26-MVA and rVSV, with no decline. Cytokine production analysis identify shared biomarkers between the Ad26-MVA and rVSV groups. In secondary endpoint, we observed an elevation of pro-inflammatory cytokines at Day 7 in the rVSV group. Finally, we establish a correlation between EBOV-specific T-cell responses and anti-EBOV IgG responses. Our findings can guide booster vaccination recommendations and help identify populations likely to benefit from revaccination

TOUTEFOIS, UN FRACTIONNEMENT DE CET HYDROLYSAT A PERMIS DE METTRE EN EVIDENCE DES ACTIVITES ANTI-ECA ATTEIGNANT 83%.LA ROCHELLE-BU (173002101) / SudocSudocFranceF
