A generalized Holling type II model for the interaction between dextral-sinistral snails and Pareas snakes
Producción CientíficaPareatic snakes possess outstanding asymmetry in the mandibular tooth number, which has probably been caused by its evolution to improve the feeding on the predominant dextral snails. Gene mutation can generate chiral inversion on the snail body. A sinistral snail population can thrive in this ecological context. The interactions between dextral/sinistral snails and Pareas snakes are modeled in this paper by using a new generalized functional response of Holling type II. Distinct Pareas species show different bilateral asymmetry degrees. This parameter plays an essential role in our model and determines the evolution of the populations. Stability of the solutions is also analyzed for different regimes in the space of parameters.Ministerio de Economía, Industria y Competitividad (grant MTM2014-57129-C2-1-P)Junta de Castilla y Leon (grant VA057U16
Coherently manipulating flying qubits in a quantum wire with a magnetic impurity
e study the effect of a magnetic impurity with spin-half on a single
propagating electron in a one-dimensional model system via the tight-binding
approach. Due to the spin-dependent interaction, the scattering channel for the
flying qubit is split, and its transmission spectrum is obtained. It is found
that, the spin orientation of the impurity plays the role as a spin state
filter for a flying qubit.Comment: 6 pages, 5 figure

Assuming that the devices are endowed with a known coverage area, we analyze two different models. The first model aims to minimize the number of devices to be located in order to (fully or partially) cover the volume of the network. In the second model, the number of devices is given, and the goal is to locate them to provide a coverage volume as broad as possible. Unlike other approaches in the literature, in our models, it is not assumed that the devices are located on the network (nodes or edges) but in the whole space and that the different segments in the networks may be partially covered, which allows for more flexible coverage. We also derive a method to construct initial solutions as well as a math-heuristic approach for solving the problem for larger instances. We report the results of a series of experiments on real-world water supply pipeline networks, supporting the validity of our models.Agencia Estatal de Investigacion and Fondos Europeos de Desarrollo Regional

Urans Computations of a DTMB 5415
This paper presents the results of the computations performed in the Canal de Ensayos Hidrodinámicos de ETSI Navales (CEHINAV) for the US Navy Combatant DTMB 5415 [Larsson et al. 2003] at model scale with the URANS free surface commercial solver StarCCM+. In this context we focused on the results required to complete the case 3.1a. In this situation the bare hull ship is fixed in a specified position and sails in still water. These computational results are validated against experimental data [Olivieri et al. 2001] in terms of various global and local quantities
IMM-Based lane-change prediction in highways with low-cost GPS/INS
The prediction of lane changes has been proven to be useful for collision avoidance support in road vehicles. This paper proposes
an interactive multiple model (IMM)-based method for predicting lane changes in highways. The sensor unit consists of a set of low-cost Global Positioning System/inertial measurement unit (GPS/IMU) sensors and an odometry captor for collecting velocity measurements. Extended Kalman filters (EKFs) running in parallel and integrated by an IMM-based algorithm
provide positioning and maneuver predictions to the user. The maneuver states Change Lane (CL) and Keep Lane (KL) are defined by
two models that describe different dynamics. Different model sets have been studied to meet the needs of the IMM-based algorithm. Real trials in highway scenarios show the capability of the system to predict lane changes in straight and curved road stretches with very short latency times.Ministerio de Fomento: FOM/2454/200
Nikita Chama Boom. Un nuevo cortometraje de Juan Padrón que coquetea con la Revolución Cubana
[EN] At the ICAIC animation studies in La Havana, the flagship of Cuban animated cinema, each political age lived at the country has became the subject for one short film. Recently, the influential animation filmmaker Juan Padrón chose one of the most crucial moments in Cuban history, the 1962 Missile Crisis, to develop his last film, Nikita Chama Boom (2010), a direct reference to the Cuban idiosyncrasy, a viewpoint to the distinction of their smart happy folk, who are always able to take advantage of any situation.[ES] En los Estudios de Animación del ICAIC de la Habana, productora por excelencia del cine de animación cubano, cada etapa política vivida por el país se ha convertido en tema para algún cortometraje. Preparing for generation Z:how can technology enhanced learning be firmly embedded in our students' learning experience? A case study from Abertay University
Abertay is a relatively small, modern university (undergraduate population of around 4000) with a wide portfolio and a diverse student population. Around 35% of our students are direct entry from local partner colleges to years 2 and 3 of our programmes and a significant number are first generation higher education within their families. As such, partnership working with colleges and support to aid student transitions are key aspects of Abertay’s provision. Since 2013/14, the university has developed and implemented a new Teaching and Learning Enhancement strategy that has catalysed wholescale transformation across the institution. This paper provides an overview of technology enhanced learning at the university with the drivers for change being to the quality of our students' learning experience, improve student retention and progression and enhance learners’ engagement
