    Project-Based Learning in Financials Advice

    [EN] The efficient use of the economic resources of companies, both large enterprises and SMEs, as well as the different means to obtain these resources, are critical aspects. For this reason, the new generation of students of degrees such as Business Administration and Management should know in depth the different types of banking entities, the main asset and liability operations of banking entities and the existing risk, as well as the main challenges of the banking sector for the following years. In the same way, a profound comprehension about the stock market and the simulation models to analyse different financial situations are aspects highly valued by companies. Based on this, learning requirements arise to seek active methodologies that allow students to acquire the knowledge and key competencies that companies currently require. Among these methodologies, we would like to highlight the Project-based Learning (PBL) through which the teaching-learning process is carried out through the development of a project that tries to give an answer to a real problem. Through PBL, students develop a high degree of autonomy and responsibility, since they are responsible for planning, structuring the work and preparing the project to solve a specific problem or situation. The lecturers¿ work in this methodology is to guide and support students throughout all the process of project development. Therefore, this article defines a PBL model to satisfy the current needs of the market in terms of financials advice. The PBL model involves two subjects: (i) Banking and Stock Market and (ii) Advanced financial simulation techniques taught in the Degree of Business Administration and Management in the Campus of Alcoy of Universitat Politècnica de València (Spain). The PBL model has been defined collaboratively to be performed on both subjects during one academic year.     Location of upper borders of cavities containing dust and gas under pressure in comets

    The distance between the pre-impact surface of Comet 9P/Tempel 1 and the upper border of the largest cavity excavated during ejection of material after the collision of the impact module of the Deep Impact spacecraft with the comet is estimated to be about 5-6 metres if the diameter of the DI transient crater was about 150-200 m. The estimated distance was 4 m at the diameter was 100 m.     Angular Correlations in Internal Pair Conversion of Aligned Heavy Nuclei

    We calculate the spatial correlation of electrons and positrons emitted by internal pair conversion of Coulomb excited nuclei in heavy ion collisions. The alignment or polarization of the nucleus results in an anisotropic emission of the electron-positron pairs which is closely related to the anisotropic emission of γ\gamma-rays. However, the angular correlation in the case of internal pair conversion exhibits diverse patterns.     Dust observations of Comet 9P/Tempel 1 at the time of the Deep Impact

    On 4 July 2005 at 05:52 UT, the impactor of NASA's Deep Impact (DI) mission crashed into comet 9P/Tempel 1 with a velocity of about 10 km/s. The material ejected by the impact expanded into the normal coma, produced by ordinary cometary activity. The characteristics of the non-impact coma and cloud produced by the impact were studied by observations in the visible wavelengths and in the near-IR. The scattering characteristics of the "normal" coma of solid particles were studied by comparing images in various spectral regions, from the UV to the near-IR. For the non-impact coma, a proxy of the dust production has been measured in various spectral regions. The presence of sublimating grains has been detected. Their lifetime was found to be about 11 hours. Regarding the cloud produced by the impact, the total geometric cross section multiplied by the albedo was measured as a function of the color and time. The projected velocity appeared to obey a Gaussian distribution with the average velocity of the order of 115 m/s. By comparing the observations taken about 3 hours after the impact, we have found a strong decrease in the cross section in J filter, while that in Ks remained almost constant. This is interpreted as the result of sublimation of grains dominated by particles of sizes of the order of some microns.Comment: Accepted by A&

    Performance of a Tungsten-Cerium Fluoride Sampling Calorimeter in High-Energy Electron Beam Tests

    A prototype for a sampling calorimeter made out of cerium fluoride crystals interleaved with tungsten plates, and read out by wavelength-shifting fibres, has been exposed to beams of electrons with energies between 20 and 150 GeV, produced by the CERN Super Proton Synchrotron accelerator complex. The performance of the prototype is presented and compared to that of a Geant4 simulation of the apparatus.     CoRoT's view of newly discovered B-star pulsators: results for 358 candidate B pulsators from the initial run's exoplanet field data

    We search for new variable B-type pulsators in the CoRoT data assembled primarily for planet detection, as part of CoRoT's Additional Programme. We aim to explore the properties of newly discovered B-type pulsators from the uninterrupted CoRoT space-based photometry and to compare them with known members of the Beta Cep and slowly pulsating B star (SPB) classes. We developed automated data analysis tools that include algorithms for jump correction, light-curve detrending, frequency detection, frequency combination search, and for frequency and period spacing searches. Besides numerous new, classical, slowly pulsating B stars, we find evidence for a new class of low-amplitude B-type pulsators between the SPB and Delta Sct instability strips, with a very broad range of frequencies and low amplitudes, as well as several slowly pulsating B stars with residual excess power at frequencies typically a factor three above their expected g-mode frequencies. The frequency data we obtained for numerous new B-type pulsators represent an appropriate starting point for further theoretical analyses of these stars, once their effective temperature, gravity, rotation velocity, and abundances will be derived spectroscopically in the framework of an ongoing FLAMES survey at the VLT.Comment: 22 pages, 30 figures, accepted for publication in A&

    Pre-hibernation performances of the OSIRIS cameras onboard the Rosetta spacecraft

    Context. The ESA cometary mission Rosetta was launched in 2004. In the past years and until the spacecraft hibernation in June 2011, the two cameras of the OSIRIS imaging system (Narrow Angle and Wide Angle Camera, NAC and WAC) observed many different sources. On 20 January 2014 the spacecraft successfully exited hibernation to start observing the primary scientific target of the mission, comet 67P/Churyumov-Gerasimenko. Aims. A study of the past performances of the cameras is now mandatory to be able to determine whether the system has been stable through the time and to derive, if necessary, additional analysis methods for the future precise calibration of the cometary data. Methods. The instrumental responses and filter passbands were used to estimate the efficiency of the system. A comparison with acquired images of specific calibration stars was made, and a refined photometric calibration was computed, both for the absolute flux and for the reflectivity of small bodies of the solar system. Results. We found a stability of the instrumental performances within ±1.5% from 2007 to 2010, with no evidence of an aging effect on the optics or detectors. The efficiency of the instrumentation is found to be as expected in the visible range, but lower than expected in the UV and IR range. A photometric calibration implementation was discussed for the two cameras. Conclusions. The calibration derived from pre-hibernation phases of the mission will be checked as soon as possible after the awakening of OSIRIS and will be continuously monitored until the end of the mission in December 2015. A list of additional calibration sources has been determined that are to be observed during the forthcoming phases of the mission to ensure a better coverage across the wavelength range of the cameras and to study the possible dust contamination of the optics

    Blended intensive programme’s implementation in dental education: post-pandemic evolution of learning

    Blended Intensive Programmes (BIP’s) represent a valuable tool for gathering knowledge and summarising the latest trends in medicine and dentistry. Blended education has been found, even before the COVID-19 pandemic, to increase the level of education and stimulate effective learning for postgraduate healthcare professionals. Interprofessional education is critical for preparing students to enter the health workforce, where teamwork and collaboration are important competencies. This article outlines the key points of the Blended Intensive Programme’s implementation in dental education organised by Wroclaw Medical University in Poland. BIP involved professors from 12 universities or research institutions from Europe and South America and 28 participants from 8 countries. The course was taught remotely and in person. In addition, it included a visit to the university and practical classes with artificial simulation and practice in dentistry. A structured questionnaire enabled measuring the evaluation of students’ perception of the COVID-19 education before and after the pandemic. The European Region Action Scheme for the Mobility of University Students (ERASMUS) was fundamental to carrying out the BIP with the participation of several countries, allowing the exchange of knowledge, assessing the impact of the pandemic on dental universities, and strengthening international collaborations and the future project of research, education and clinical assistance. We conclude that hybrid teaching programmes broaden the learning spectrum in dental studies by allowing transnational and interdisciplinary approaches that make students aware of the importance of their work within the framework of the general health approach, as this differs from country to country
