A conjugação estes conceitos
The visual identity is an essential element for the communication of an
institution, in this context the graphic design exercise appears as a mediator between an
institution and its communication intentions.
Within the Póvoa de Varzim's City Hall strategic plan, to create a new
multipurpose equipment in Póvoa de Varzim's Bullring, Póvoa Arena appears, an
equipment with the intention of being a pole of dynamism and affirmation of the city. In
this context, the project aims to develop a visual identity proposal for Póvoa Arena.
Having as a starting point a previous study about the history, development and the
themes that involve the discipline of visual identity, it is also presented an observation to
the past, cultural heritage and the present of Póvoa de Varzim. The combination of these
concepts intends to create a link between the past and the present in order to allow a
historical connection to the city. The results obtained are translated in the development
of the proposal for a graphic solution with the intention of enabling Póvoa Arena to meet
the city's future intention
Nutritional ingredients from spent brewer's yeast obtained by hydrolysis and selective membrane filtration integrated in a pilot process
Spent brewer's yeast is a natural surplus from brewing industry. In order to up-grade this by-product, isolation of compounds has been tentatively assessed. The main objective of this work focuses on the use of ultrafiltration and nanofiltration pilot system for recovering cell compounds. Initially, yeast was autolyzed and ultrafiltered with a 10 kDa cut-off, and the two fractions obtained were hydrolyzed with Cynara cardunculus extract and nanofiltered with 3 kDa cut-off. Four fractions with different molecular weights were obtained, with protein and sugar contents ranging between 30–69% and 20–48%, respectively. Sodium and potassium were the major minerals present, whereas glutamine, glutamic acid and alanine, the most representative free amino acids. Peptide profile showed peptides with hydrophilic and hydrophobic characteristics, usually associated with biological activities, including antihypertensive and antioxidant. Thus, based on their compositions, all fractions show technological and biological potential, and can be used as nutritional ingredients in food and feed.info:eu-repo/semantics/publishedVersio
O Museu do Estado da Bahia, entre ideais e realidades (1918 a 1959)
This article retraces the trajectory of the Museu do Estado da Bahia from 1918 to 1959. The aim is to identify its successive museological practices and the implementation of the so-called processes of musealization during its institutionalization and consolidation, which were also related to the personalities of the administrators and their expectations regarding political and social interactions, as well their expectations toward the State of Bahia itself. Having dealt with a wide range of conflicts, alterations have been observed in how the museum functions. Within the framework in question, three successive periods have been characterized: its establishment as a historic museum; its consolidation as an eclectic museum with a focus on history, and the path towards art under the direction of José Valladares
Characterisation of microbial attack on archaeological bone
As part of an EU funded project to investigate the factors influencing bone preservation in the archaeological record, more than 250 bones from 41 archaeological sites in five countries spanning four climatic regions were studied for diagenetic alteration. Sites were selected to cover a range of environmental conditions and archaeological contexts. Microscopic and physical (mercury intrusion porosimetry) analyses of these bones revealed that the majority (68%) had suffered microbial attack. Furthermore, significant differences were found between animal and human bone in both the state of preservation and the type of microbial attack present. These differences in preservation might result from differences in early taphonomy of the bones. © 2003 Elsevier Science Ltd. All rights reserved
