The project consists of: - mechanical tests of the prototype of the new implant and comparison to existing anterior fixation systems in a bone model material; - a literature review in order to classify the test results; - the development of a finite element model for the tension case, which will be validated by the mechanical tests

Gluon-induced W-boson pair production at the LHC

Pair production of W bosons constitutes an important background to Higgs boson and new physics searches at the Large Hadron Collider LHC. We have calculated the loop-induced gluon-fusion process gg -> W*W* -> leptons, including intermediate light and heavy quarks and allowing for arbitrary invariant masses of the W bosons. While formally of next-to-next-to-leading order, the gg -> W*W* -> leptons process is enhanced by the large gluon flux at the LHC and by experimental Higgs search cuts, and increases the next-to-leading order WW background estimate for Higgs searches by about 30%. We have extended our previous calculation to include the contribution from the intermediate top-bottom massive quark loop and the Higgs signal process. We provide updated results for cross sections and differential distributions and study the interference between the different gluon scattering contributions. We describe important analytical and numerical aspects of our calculation and present the public GG2WW event generator.Comment: 20 pages, 4 figure

Ibicaba Farm, property of Senator Nicolau Pereira de Campos Vergueiro during the 19th century, was the subject of studies that focused on the experience with the sharecropping system. This article intends to undertake a revisit to Ibicaba through new lenses of observation. At first, it tries to insert Vergueiro's farm in the context of the changing World-economy of the first decades of the nineteenth century, and then highlight the importance of the spatial dimension of reality in this historical context. In the following two subitems, which constitute the core of the article, an analysis is made of the protocols - especially spatial - of control of the workers, used by the Vergueiros in order to extract the maximum of labor from slaves and sharecroppers, as well as the strategies that captives and immigrants used to escape from this surveillance. Finally, a brief recapitulation of the main points exposed and some considerations about the tensions that emerged in Ibicaba during the studied period are made.

Fully Automated Identification of Two-Dimensional Material Samples

Thin nanomaterials are key constituents of modern quantum technologies and materials research. The identification of specimens of these materials with the properties required for the development of state-of-the-art quantum devices is usually a complex and tedious human task. In this work, we provide a neural-network-driven solution that allows for accurate and efficient scanning, data processing, and sample identification of experimentally relevant two-dimensional materials. We show how to approach the classification of imperfect and imbalanced data sets using an iterative application of multiple noisy neural networks. We embed the trained classifier into a comprehensive solution for end-to-end automatized data processing and sample identification

    Electron transport in dual-gated three-layer

The low-energy band structure of few-layer MoS2 is relevant for a large variety of experiments ranging from optics to electronic transport. Its characterization remains challenging due to complex multiband behavior. We investigate the conduction band of dual-gated three-layer MoS2 by means of magnetotransport experiments. The total carrier density is tuned by voltages applied between MoS2 and both top and bottom gate electrodes. For asymmetrically biased top and bottom gates, electrons accumulate in the layer closest to the positively biased electrode. In this way, the three-layer MoS2 can be tuned to behave electronically like a monolayer. In contrast, applying a positive voltage on both gates leads to the occupation of all three layers. Our analysis of the Shubnikov–de Haas oscillations originating from different bands lets us attribute the corresponding carrier densities in the top and bottom layers. We find a twofold Landau level degeneracy for each band, suggesting that the minima of the conduction band lie at the ±K points of the first Brillouin zone. This is in contrast to band structure calculations for zero layer asymmetry, which report minima at the Q points. Even though the interlayer tunnel coupling seems to leave the low-energy conduction band unaffected, we observe scattering of electrons between the outermost layers for zero layer asymmetry. The middle layer remains decoupled due to the spin-valley symmetry, which is inverted for neighboring layers. When the bands of the outermost layers are energetically in resonance, interlayer scattering takes place, leading to an enhanced resistance and to magneto-interband oscillations.ISSN:2643-156

Além de desempenharem a função de incentivo à emigração, construíram uma imagem do Brasil especificamente para imigrantes.<br>This article presents nine letters of German immigrants living in coffee-plantations in the state of Rio de Janeiro. They were published in 1852/53 in Günther Fröbel's newspapers in Rudolstadt. The intention was to encourage an emigration to the fluminense coffee-plantation, which had adopted a "parceria system" instead of slavery. Besides playing a part in the promotion of the emigration they built specific images of Brazil for immigrants
