It is intended to share first hand experiences on collaborative efforts among watershed stakeholders in the area of advocacy and capacity building as a means of achieving watershed management at the same time moving towards water resources protection/conservation and environmental sanitation. Los tratamientos consistieron en 5 niveles de inclusión de cáscara de naranja 0, 10, 20, 30 y 40 %; se estimó caracterización organoléptica (color y olor durante los tiempos de fermentación (1, 3, 7, 21 y 28 días). Conjuntamente se determinó pH, materia seca (MS), proteína cruda (PC), extracto etéreo (EE), fibra cruda (FC), cenizas (CEN) y extracto no nitrogenado (ENN). Se analizaron coeficientes de digestibilidad (CD), con la técnica de bolsa dacrón móvil (TBDM) y un cerdo de 25 kg de peso, al cual previamente se le implantó una cánula duodenal; para esta prueba se escogieron los tiempos de fermentación (3, 7, 21 días) y los tratamientos con inclusión de cáscara de naranja T2 (10 %), T3 (20 %), T4 (30 %) y el control. Por último se realizó aproxima- ción económica de dietas. La evaluación organoléptica demostró variabilidad en color, debido al cítrico presente en los tratamientos; el olor fue influenciado por la presencia de ácidos, que proporcionaron olor agradable. El análisis químico fue significativo (p<0.01), entre tratamientos y tiempos de fermentación, resultando un compor- tamiento favorable para T3 con valores promedios de pH (4,19), MS (49.7 %), PC (23.3 %), FC (1.8 %), EE (4.4%), CEN (5.3 %) y ENN (62.29 %). Los tratamientos T2 y T3 reportaron CD mayores al control. Se propone el ensilaje cítrico con nivel de 20% para dietas iniciadoras de cerdos.ABSTRACT. The current study evaluated the nutritional value of diets based on orange peel (Citrus sinensis) by the technique of silage. The treatments consisted of 5 levels of inclusion of 0, 10, 20, 30 and 40 % of orange peel respectively. We evaluated organoleptic characterization (colour and odour during the time of fermentation (1, 3, 7, 21 and 28 days). In addition, pH, dry matter (MS), crude protein (PC), ether extract (EE), crude fiber (FC), ash (CEN) and nitrogen-free extract (ENN) were assessed. Digestibility coefficients (CD) were analyzed, through the Dacron bag technique (TBDM) and a pig of 25 kg weight, which was previously implanted with a duodenal cannula; in this test, 3 fermentation times were chosen (3 , 7, 21 days) and treatments with inclusion of orange peel T2 (10 %), T3 (20 %), T4 (30 %) and the control. Finally, economic approximation of dieting was made. Organoleptic appreciation results showed variability in colour, due to citric present in treatments; the smell was influenced by the presence of acids, which provided a pleasant smell. Chemical analysis was significant (p<0.01), between treatments and time of fermentation, resulting in a favourable trend for T3 with average values of pH (4,19), MS (49,7 %), PC (23,3 %), FC (1,8 %), EE (4,4 %), CEN (5,3 %) and, ENN (62,29 %).     A conceptual map about alternating current circuits

    Teachers are deeply concerned on how to be more effective in our task of teaching. We must organize the contents of our specific area providing them with a logical configuration, for which we must know the mental structure of the students that we have in the classroom. We must shape this mental structure, in a progressive manner, so that they can assimilate the contents that we are trying to transfer, to make the learning as meaningful as possible. In the generative learning model, the links before the stimulus delivered by the teacher and the information stored in the mind of the learner requires an important effort by the student, who should build new conceptual meanings. That effort, which is extremely necessary for a good learning, sometimes is the missing ingredient so that the teaching-learning process can be properly assimilated. In electrical circuits, which we know are perfectly controlled and described by Ohm's law and Kirchhoff's two rules, there are two concepts that correspond to the following physical quantities: voltage and electrical resistance. These two concepts are integrated and linked when the concept of current is presented. This concept is not subordinated to the previous ones, it has the same degree of inclusiveness and gives rise to substantial relations between the three concepts, materializing it into a law: The Ohm, which allows us to relate and to calculate any of the three physical magnitudes, two of them known. The alternate current, in which both the voltage and the current are reversed dozens of times per second, plays an important role in many aspects of our modern life, because it is universally used. Its main feature is that its maximum voltage is easily modifiable through the use of transformers, which greatly facilitates its transfer with very few losses.     The Contribution of Halos with Different Mass Ratios to the Overall Growth of Cluster-Sized Halos

    We provide a new observational test for a key prediction of the \Lambda CDM cosmological model: the contributions of mergers with different halo-to-main-cluster mass ratios to cluster-sized halo growth. We perform this test by dynamically analyzing seven galaxy clusters, spanning the redshift range 0.13<zc<0.450.13 < z_c < 0.45 and caustic mass range 0.41.50.4-1.5 1015h0.73110^{15} h_{0.73}^{-1} M_{\odot}, with an average of 293 spectroscopically-confirmed bound galaxies to each cluster. The large radial coverage (a few virial radii), which covers the whole infall region, with a high number of spectroscopically identified galaxies enables this new study. For each cluster, we identify bound galaxies. Out of these galaxies, we identify infalling and accreted halos and estimate their masses and their dynamical states. Using the estimated masses, we derive the contribution of different mass ratios to cluster-sized halo growth. For mass ratios between ~0.2 and ~0.7, we find a ~1 σ\sigma agreement with \Lambda CDM expectations based on the Millennium simulations I and II. At low mass ratios, 0.2\lesssim 0.2, our derived contribution is underestimated since the detection efficiency decreases at low masses, 2×1014\sim 2 \times 10^{14} h0.731h_{0.73}^{-1} M_{\odot}. At large mass ratios, 0.7\gtrsim 0.7, we do not detect halos probably because our sample, which was chosen to be quite X-ray relaxed, is biased against large mass ratios.     CLASH: Mass Distribution in and around MACS J1206.2-0847 from a Full Cluster Lensing Analysis

    We derive an accurate mass distribution of the galaxy cluster MACS J1206.2-0847 (z=0.439) from a combined weak-lensing distortion, magnification, and strong-lensing analysis of wide-field Subaru BVRIz' imaging and our recent 16-band Hubble Space Telescope observations taken as part of the Cluster Lensing And Supernova survey with Hubble (CLASH) program. We find good agreement in the regions of overlap between several weak and strong lensing mass reconstructions using a wide variety of modeling methods, ensuring consistency. The Subaru data reveal the presence of a surrounding large scale structure with the major axis running approximately north-west south-east (NW-SE), aligned with the cluster and its brightest galaxy shapes, showing elongation with a \sim 2:1 axis ratio in the plane of the sky. Our full-lensing mass profile exhibits a shallow profile slope dln\Sigma/dlnR\sim -1 at cluster outskirts (R>1Mpc/h), whereas the mass distribution excluding the NW-SE excess regions steepens further out, well described by the Navarro-Frenk-White form. Assuming a spherical halo, we obtain a virial mass M_{vir}=(1.1\pm 0.2\pm 0.1)\times 10^{15} M_{sun}/h and a halo concentration c_{vir} = 6.9\pm 1.0\pm 1.2 (\sim 5.7 when the central 50kpc/h is excluded), which falls in the range 4 <7 of average c(M,z) predictions for relaxed clusters from recent Lambda cold dark matter simulations. Our full lensing results are found to be in agreement with X-ray mass measurements where the data overlap, and when combined with Chandra gas mass measurements, yield a cumulative gas mass fraction of 13.7^{+4.5}_{-3.0}% at 0.7Mpc/h (\approx 1.7r_{2500}), a typical value observed for high mass clusters.Comment: Accepted by ApJ (30 pages, 17 figures), one new figure (Figure 10) added, minor text changes; a version with high resolution figures available at http://www.asiaa.sinica.edu.tw/~keiichi/upfiles/MACS1206/ms_highreso.pd

    Study protocol of the Bergen brain-gut-microbiota-axis study: A prospective case-report characterization and dietary intervention study to evaluate the effects of microbiota alterations on cognition and anatomical and functional brain connectivity in patients with irritable bowel syndrome

    Introduction: Irritable bowel syndrome (IBS) is a common clinical label for medically unexplained gastrointestinal (GI) symptoms, recently described as a disturbance of the brain-gut-microbiota (BGM) axis. To gain a better understanding of the mechanisms underlying the poorly understood etiology of IBS, we have designed a multifaceted study that aim to stratify the complex interaction and dysfunction between the brain, the gut, and the microbiota in patients with IBS. Methods: Deep phenotyping data from patients with IBS (n = 100) and healthy age- (between 18 and 65) and gender-matched controls (n = 40) will be collected between May 2019 and December 2021. Psychometric tests, questionnaires, human biological tissue/samples (blood, faeces, saliva, and GI biopsies from antrum, duodenum, and sigmoid colon), assessment of gastric accommodation and emptying using transabdominal ultrasound, vagal activity, and functional and structural magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) of the brain, are included in the investigation of each participant. A subgroup of 60 patients with IBS-D will be further included in a 12-week low FODMAP dietary intervention-study to determine short and long-term effects of diet on GI symptoms, microbiota composition and functions, molecular GI signatures, cognitive, emotional and social functions, and structural and functional brain signatures. Deep machine learning, prediction tools, and big data analyses will be used for multivariate analyses allowing disease stratification and diagnostic biomarker detection. Discussion: To our knowledge, this is the first study to employ unsupervised machine learning techniques and incorporate systems-based interactions between the central and the peripheral components of the brain-gut-microbiota axis at the levels of the multiomics, microbiota profiles, and brain connectome of a cohort of 100 patients with IBS and matched controls; study long-term safety and efficacy of the low-FODMAP diet on changes in nutritional status, gut microbiota composition, and metabolites; and to investigate changes in the brain and gut connectome after 12 weeks strict low-FODMAP-diet in patients with IBS. However, there are also limitations to the study. As a restrictive diet, the low-FODMAP diet carries risks of nutritional inadequacy and may foster disordered eating patterns.     Evolution of CRISPR-associated endonucleases as inferred from resurrected proteins

    Clustered regularly interspaced short palindromic repeats (CRISPR)-associated Cas9 is an effector protein that targets invading DNA and plays a major role in the prokaryotic adaptive immune system. Although Streptococcus pyogenes CRISPR–Cas9 has been widely studied and repurposed for applications including genome editing, its origin and evolution are poorly understood. Here, we investigate the evolution of Cas9 from resurrected ancient nucleases (anCas) in extinct firmicutes species that last lived 2.6 billion years before the present. We demonstrate that these ancient forms were much more flexible in their guide RNA and protospacer-adjacent motif requirements compared with modern-day Cas9 enzymes. Furthermore, anCas portrays a gradual palaeoenzymatic adaptation from nickase to double-strand break activity, exhibits high levels of activity with both single-stranded DNA and single-stranded RNA targets and is capable of editing activity in human cells. Prediction and characterization of anCas with a resurrected protein approach uncovers an evolutionary trajectory leading to functionally flexible ancient enzymes.This work has been supported by grant nos.     Maternal-Perinatal Variables in Patients with Severe Preeclampsia Who Develop Acute Kidney Injury

    Introduction: At present, we are witnessing an increase in preeclampsia, especially the most severe forms, which are associated with an increased risk of maternal-perinatal morbidity and mortality. As a severity criterion, acute kidney injury (AKI) has been associated with a worse prognosis, and for this reason, the maternal and perinatal variables associated with AKI in patients with severe preeclampsia (SP) were analysed in this study. Methods: An observational, retrospective, single-centre study of patients with SP treated at a tertiary hospital between January 2007 and December 2018 was conducted. The case criteria based on the criteria established by the ACOG Practice Guidelines for Gestational Hypertension and Preeclampsia. AKI is considered when serum creatinine exceeds 1.1 mg/dL in a pregnant woman with previously normal renal function. In patients with existing chronic kidney disease (CKD), it is referred to as AKI if the baseline serum creatinine increases by 1.5 fold. Pregestational, gestational and postpartum variables were analysed up to 12 weeks postpartum using univariate and multivariate logistic regression analysis. Results: During the study period, 76,828 births were attended, and 303 pregnant women were diagnosed with SP. The annual incidence of SP increased gradually throughout the study period, reaching 1.79/100 births/year in 2018. Acute kidney injury (AKI) occurred in 24.8% of the patients. The multivariate analysis revealed an increased association with a history of previous CKD, the use of assisted reproductive techniques and caesarean section. Uric acid and thrombotic microangiopathy (TMA) had a high correlation with AKI. Indications for caesarean section are associated with AKI in SP. Regarding perinatal outcomes in cases of AKI, there was a higher percentage of neonates who required foetal lung maturation with steroids and an increased need for NICU admission. No case of maternal death was recorded; however, an increase in neonatal mortality was found among patients who did not develop AKI. After 12 weeks postpartum, 72 patients were referred to the nephrology consultation for persistent hypertension, proteinuria or renal failure. Conclusions: In preeclampsia, AKI is a common complication, especially among patients with a history of CKD, those who became pregnant using assisted reproduction techniques and those who delivered via caesarean section. The perinatal impact of AKI is mainly centred on a higher rate of NICU admission and a lower mortality rate. Among biochemical and haematological markers, the uric acid level prior to renal failure has a direct and significant correlation with the risk of AKI, as does the development of TMA in patients with preeclampsia. Therefore, the monitoring of renal function in cases of preeclampsia should be strict, and referral for a nephrology consultation may be necessary in some cases

    JWST reveals a possible z11z \sim 11 galaxy merger in triply-lensed MACS0647-JD

    MACS0647-JD is a triply-lensed z11z\sim11 galaxy originally discovered with the Hubble Space Telescope. Here we report new JWST imaging, which clearly resolves MACS0647-JD as having two components that are either merging galaxies or stellar complexes within a single galaxy. Both are very small, with stellar masses 108M\sim10^8\,M_\odot and radii r<100pcr<100\,\rm pc. The brighter larger component "A" is intrinsically very blue (β2.6\beta\sim-2.6), likely due to very recent star formation and no dust, and is spatially extended with an effective radius 70pc\sim70\,\rm pc. The smaller component "B" appears redder (β2\beta\sim-2), likely because it is older (100200Myr100-200\,\rm Myr) with mild dust extinction (AV0.1magA_V\sim0.1\,\rm mag), and a smaller radius 20pc\sim20\,\rm pc. We identify galaxies with similar colors in a high-redshift simulation, finding their star formation histories to be out of phase. With an estimated stellar mass ratio of roughly 2:1 and physical projected separation 400pc\sim400\,\rm pc, we may be witnessing a galaxy merger 400 million years after the Big Bang. We also identify a candidate companion galaxy C 3kpc\sim3\,{\rm kpc} away, likely destined to merge with galaxies A and B. The combined light from galaxies A+B is magnified by factors of \sim8, 5, and 2 in three lensed images JD1, 2, and 3 with F356W fluxes 322\sim322, 203203, 86nJy86\,\rm nJy (AB mag 25.1, 25.6, 26.6). MACS0647-JD is significantly brighter than other galaxies recently discovered at similar redshifts with JWST. Without magnification, it would have AB mag 27.3 (MUV=20.4M_{UV}=-20.4). With a high confidence level, we obtain a photometric redshift of z=10.6±0.3z=10.6\pm0.3 based on photometry measured in 6 NIRCam filters spanning 15μm1-5\rm\mu m, out to 4300A˚4300\,\r{A} rest-frame.
