Peer Group Entry: A Focus On The Behavior And Gender Of The Entering Child And Group Members

Ninety-two 7- to 9-year-old children (47 girls) were observed while attempting to join two relatively unfamiliar same- or opposite-sex peers who were playing a board game. Female guests were less obtrusive than male guests in their entry approaches, whereas male guests were more active and assertive. Guests were less behaviorally constrained when approaching same- than opposite-sex hosts. Female hosts were more socially attentive to the guests than male hosts, who tended to ignore the newcomers. Entry outcomes were best predicted by the joint contributions of the guests\u27 and hosts\u27 gender and behavior. Successful guests performed activity-related behavior, received initiations from the hosts, and responded contingently to host initiations. Since female hosts initiated more behavior to the guests than male hosts, and female guests were more contingently responsive than male guests, girls entering female groups were the most successful. These findings support the thesis that peer group entry is an interactional phenomenon affected by the personal characteristics and contexts of both the entering children and their hosts

Actitudes del docente frente a la diversidad cultural de sus estudiantes

En diferentes investigaciones realizadas en el campo educativo, la diversidad cultural y las actitudes docentes son considerados elementos clave para enriquecer y transformar la educación primaria. La presente monografía tiene la finalidad de explicar, en base a una revisión bibliográfica, diferentes actitudes docentes frente a la diversidad cultural de los educandos y su influencia en éstos. En primer lugar, se realiza una conceptualización de los términos más relevantes de diversidad cultural en el ámbito escolar. Luego, se identifican diferentes actitudes docentes frente a los educandos en el aula con diversidad cultural. Finalmente, se expone cómo se manifiestan las actitudes del docente frente a la diversidad cultural de sus educandos; determinando la influencia de las actitudes favorables y desfavorables del docente en los estudiantes de diversas culturas, las cuales inciden positiva o negativamente en el proceso de formación del estudiantado. Se concluye en que existen dos grandes grupos de actitudes, por medio de las cuales los docentes asumen una postura frente a la diversidad cultural de sus educandos; estas actitudes son positivas o favorables y negativas o desfavorables. Determinando que la primera de éstas es fundamental para enriquecer el proceso educativo, establecer un buen clima en el aula, y fortalecer los vínculos entre docentes y estudiantes.In different investigations carried out in the educational field, cultural diversity, and teaching teachers’ attitudes are considered key elements to enrich and transform primary education. This monograph aims to explain based on a bibliographic review different teaching attitudes towards the cultural diversity of students and their influence on them. First, a conceptualization of the most relevant terms of cultural diversity in the school environment is committed. Then, different teaching teachers ‘attitudes towards students in cultural culture are identified. Finally, it is explained how the teacher's attitudes are manifested towards the cultural diversity of his or her students; To determine the influence of the favorable and unfavorable attitudes of the teacher in students of different cultures, which have a positive or negative impact on the students' formation process. It concludes that there are two large groups of attitudes through which teachers oppose the cultural diversity of their students. These attitudes are positive or favorable and negative or unfavorable. Restauración clínico-quirúrgica integral en fractura complicada de corona y raíz del tercio medio en visita única

Introducción: Las fracturas coronales complicadas en premolares y molares, que involucran también compromiso radicular ocurren usualmente en dientes plenamente formados y engastados en hueso alveolar ya maduro. Pueden alcanzar cualquier segmento de raíz, resultando las de peor pronóstico aquellas que alcanzan el tercio medio radicular, debido a los altos riesgos de aparición de reabsorciones externas asociadas a las terapias convencionales para tratar las mismas. Objetivo: Describir un caso de restauración de una fractura corono-radicular del tercio medio en un primer premolar superior derecho, utilizando el método abierto, en una sola visita. Presentación del caso: Paciente de 58 años, masculino, con antecedentes de salud, que acude a consulta tras sufrir traumatismo dentoalveolar consistente con fractura complicada de corona y raíz del tercio medio, corroborado clínica y radiográficamente. Requirió cementación de perno, reconstrucción del tercio radicular, conformación de muñón y estabilización para el logro de la restauración integral. Todo se realizó en una sola visita. Conclusiones: La restauración clínico-quirúrgica integral en fractura complicada de corona y raíz del tercio medio es una alternativa factible de realizar en una sola visita, que garantiza una rápida recuperación de las funciones buco-dentales. Palabras clave: Traumatismo dental, fractura de corona y raíz, endodoncia  técnica de perno muñón, restauración dental, cirugía dental. Cáncer gástrico. Causas de muerte. Frecuencia y aspectos de su diagnóstico y prevención.

A total of 829 autopsies with cancer of stomach were studied as basic cause of death, taken from the Data Base of Autopsies of the National SARCAP Center, National Register of Autopsies in Cuba, with the purpose of demonstrating its general characteristics and specially its direct causes of death and the evaluation of the premorten diagnoses. Forty hospitals from the different provinces of the country were represented here. It is analyzed the situation about cancer of stomach in the world and in Cuba, making an emphasis on the importance of an early diagnosis in order to achieve greater survivals. The ages were from 18 to 110 years old and the most represented decade was from 55-84 years old with 69.1%. The reason M/F was 1.8. Cancer as such, bronchopneumonía and pulmonary thromboembolism were the most frequent direct causes of death. The diagnostic discrepancies, total and parcial in basic causes of death were 15.0% and 17.3% and the totals in direct causes of death 35.6%. The 96.8% were carcinomas, 2% limphomas and the Gastrointestinal Stromal Tumours (GIST) 1.2%. Lymphatic ganglions, liver, peritoneum, pancreas and lung were the most frequent sites of metastasis. It is highlighted the use of the multiple causes of death in the study of stomach cancer and the role of the autopsy is strengthen as the most complete study of sick/sickness and the guarantee of quality in medicine.Se estudiaron 829 autopsias con cáncer de estómago, como causa básica de muerte, extraídos de la Base de Datos de Autopsias del Centro Nacional del SARCAP, Registro Nacional de Autopsias en Cuba, con el objetivo de demostrar sus características generales y, en especial, sus causas directas de muerte y la evaluación de los diagnósticos premortem. Están representados 40 hospitales de las distintas provincias del país. Se analiza la situación que ocupa el cáncer de estómago en el mundo y en Cuba, destacándose la importancia y la complejidad del diagnóstico precoz destinada a lograr supervivencias mayores. Las edades fueron de 18 hasta 110 años con un promedio de 66 años y el 69.1% fallecieron entre los 55 y 84 años. La razón M/F fue de 1.8. El cáncer como tal, la bronconeumonía y el tromboembolismo pulmonar fueron las causas directas de muerte más frecuente. Las discrepancias diagnósticas totales y parciales en causas básicas de muerte fueron 15.0% y 17.3% y las totales en causas directas de muerte el 35.6%. En los que se especificó la variedad histológica, el 96.8% fueron adenocarcinomas, el 2% correspondieron a linfomas y el 1.2% a tumores de células del estroma gastrointestinal. Los sitios de metástasis más frecuentes fueron: ganglios linfáticos, hígado, peritoneo, páncreas y pulmón. Se destaca la utilización de las causas múltiples de muerte en el estudio del cáncer de estómago y se reafirma el papel de la autopsia como el estudio más completo del enfermo/enfermedad y garantía de calidad en Medicina

Background: The European Commission (EC) Horizon 2020 (H2020)-funded ZIKAlliance Consortium designed a multicentre study including pregnant women (PW), children (CH) and natural history (NH) cohorts. Clinical sites were selected over a wide geographic range within Latin America and the Caribbean, taking into account the dynamic course of the ZIKV epidemic. Methods: Recruitment to the PW cohort will take place in antenatal care clinics. PW will be enrolled regardless of symptoms and followed over the course of pregnancy, approximately every 4 weeks. PW will be revisited at delivery (or after miscarriage/abortion) to assess birth outcomes, including microcephaly and other congenital abnormalities according to the evolving definition of congenital Zika syndrome (CZS). After birth, children will be followed for 2 years in the CH cohort. Follow-up visits are scheduled at ages 1-3, 4-6, 12, and 24 months to assess neurocognitive and developmental milestones. In addition, a NH cohort for the characterization of symptomatic rash/fever illness was designed, including follow-up to capture persisting health problems. Blood, urine, and other biological materials will be collected, and tested for ZIKV and other relevant arboviral diseases (dengue, chikungunya, yellow fever) using RT-PCR or serological methods. Ten millennia of hepatitis B virus evolution

Hepatitis B virus (HBV) has been infecting humans for millennia and remains a global health problem, but its past diversity and dispersal routes are largely unknown. We generated HBV genomic data from 137 Eurasians and Native Americans dated between ~10,500 and ~400 years ago. We date the most recent common ancestor of all HBV lineages to between ~20,000 and 12,000 years ago, with the virus present in European and South American hunter-gatherers during the early Holocene. After the European Neolithic transition, Mesolithic HBV strains were replaced by a lineage likely disseminated by early farmers that prevailed throughout western Eurasia for ~4000 years, declining around the end of the 2nd millennium BCE. The only remnant of this prehistoric HBV diversity is the rare genotype G, which appears to have reemerged during the HIV pandemic

Estilos de crianza y de apego y su relación con el autoconcepto

El propósito del presente estudio fue investigar la relación entre Estilo Parental y Estilo de Apego de un grupo de madres y el Autoconcepto de sus hijos. En esta investigación participaron 272 sujetos divididos en dos grupos: uno compuesto por 136 madres de familia y el otro compuesto por los 136 hijos o hijas de dichas madres. La edad de las madres estaba comprendida entre los 25 y 40 años, mientras que las edades de los hijos(as) estaban comprendidas entre los 8 y los 13 años de edad. Los hijos(as) eran alumnos de 5 Escuelas Públicas Estatales, todas pertenecientes a los Municipios de Veracruz y Boca del Río, Ver. El nivel socioeconómico perteneciente fue medio bajo. Fueron seleccionados por disponibilidad. Para medir las variables se utilizaron cuatro instrumentos: la Escala Socioeconómica, la Escala de Lazos Parentales, la Escala de Estilos de Apego y la escala de Autoconcepto para niños. Los resultados obtenidos en esta investigación sugieren que: a) el cuidado parental impacta positivamente sobre el factor yo físico del hijo; b) la ansiedad de la madre, impacta negativamente el autoconcepto del hijo; c) a mayor cuidado parental existe menor dependencia y menor ansiedad en la madre; d) a mayor cuidado parental existe mayor intimidad de la madre; y e) a mayor sobreprotección parental existe menor intimidad de la madre. La discusión se centra en el impacto positivo que el cuidado parental de la madre tiene sobre la autoimagen del hijo, así como el impacto negativo que la ansiedad de la madre tiene sobre el autoconcepto del hijo. Finalmente se discute la manera en que el cuidado parental adecuado evita el desarrollo de ansiedad y fomenta el desarrollo de lazos íntimos y cercanos de la madre.
