Method for Characterization of Nano-Films Mechanical Properties

    Get PDF
The new measuring procedure of nanosized films mechanical characteristics is proposed. The method provides laying of an explored material film on a surface of getter which containing gas. A film is locally deformed to bubbles formation by gassing from getter. Mechanical properties of nanofilm are calculated by measuring the sizes and the shape of the undamaged and destroyed bubbles. Mechanical properties of iron nanofilm with thickness 30 nanometers were determined by the method. Star Unfolding Convex Polyhedra via Quasigeodesic Loops

    Get PDF
We extend the notion of star unfolding to be based on a quasigeodesic loop Q rather than on a point. This gives a new general method to unfold the surface of any convex polyhedron P to a simple (non-overlapping), planar polygon: cut along one shortest path from each vertex of P to Q, and cut all but one segment of Q.Comment: 10 pages, 7 figures. v2 improves the description of cut locus, and adds references. v3 improves two figures and their captions. New version v4 offers a completely different proof of non-overlap in the quasigeodesic loop case, and contains several other substantive improvements. This version is 23 pages long, with 15 figure

We give a counterexample of Bowers-Stephenson's conjecture in the spherical case: spherical inversive distance circle packings are not determined by their inversive distances.Comment: 6 pages, one pictur

Hashimoto’s encephalopathy presenting with seizures: a case report

Hashimoto’s encephalopathy is an autoimmune neuroendocrine syndrome with variable clinical manifestations and a high level of anti-thyroid antibodies. The article deals with a clinical case in 44-year-old woman with the onset of Hashimoto’s encephalopathy, presented by the tonic and clonic cramps, the motor aphasia and the anomy. This article reports the results of the diagnostic search and the results of treatment of this rare pathology. Substitutional doping of Cu in diamond: Mott physics with pp orbitals

Discovery of superconductivity in the impurity band formed by heavy doping of boron into diamond (C:B) as well as doping of boron into silicon (Si:B) has provided a rout for the possibility of new families of superconducting materials. Motivated by the special role played by copper atoms in high temperature superconducting materials where essentially Cu dd orbitals are responsible for a variety of correlation induced phases, in this paper we investigate the effect of substitutional doping of Cu into diamond. Our extensive first principle calculations averaged over various geometries based on density functional theory, indicates the formation of a mid-gap band, which mainly arises from the t2gt_{2g} and 4p4p states of Cu. For impurity concentrations of more than 1\sim 1%, the effect of 2pbandsofneighboringcarbonatomscanbeignored.Basedonourdetailedanalysis,wesuggestatwobandmodelforthemidgapstatesconsistingofaquarterfilledholelike bands of neighboring carbon atoms can be ignored. Based on our detailed analysis, we suggest a two band model for the mid-gap states consisting of a quarter-filled hole like t_{2g}band,andahalffilledbandof band, and a half-filled band of 4pstates.IncreasingtheconcentrationoftheCuimpuritybeyond states. Increasing the concentration of the Cu impurity beyond \sim 5%, completely closes the spectral gap of the host diamond.Comment: 5 figure

Search for single top quarks in the tau+jets channel using 4.8 fb1^{-1} of ppˉp\bar{p} collision data

    Get PDF
We present the first direct search for single top quark production using tau leptons. The search is based on 4.8 fb1^{-1} of integrated luminosity collected in ppˉp\bar{p} collisions at s\sqrt{s}=1.96 TeV with the D0 detector at the Fermilab Tevatron Collider. We select events with a final state including an isolated tau lepton, missing transverse energy, two or three jets, one or two of them bb tagged. We use a multivariate technique to discriminate signal from background. The number of events observed in data in this final state is consistent with the signal plus background expectation. We set in the tau+jets channel an upper limit on the single top quark cross section of \TauLimObs pb at the 95% C.L. This measurement allows a gain of 4% in expected sensitivity for the observation of single top production when combining it with electron+jets and muon+jets channels already published by the D0 collaboration with 2.3 fb1^{-1} of data. We measure a combined cross section of \SuperCombineXSall pb, which is the most precise measurement to date.Comment: 12 pages, 5 figure

Measurement of Z/gamma*+jet+X angular distributions in ppbar collisions at sqrt{s}=1.96 TeV

    Get PDF
We present the first measurements at a hadron collider of differential cross sections for Z+jet+X production in delta phi(Z, jet), |delta y(Z, jet)| and |y_boost(Z, jet)|. Vector boson production in association with jets is an excellent probe of QCD and constitutes the main background to many small cross section processes, such as associated Higgs production. These measurements are crucial tests of the predictions of perturbative QCD and current event generators, which have varied success in describing the data. Using these measurements as inputs in tuning event generators will increase the experimental sensitivity to rare signals.Comment: Published in Physics Letters B 682 (2010), pp. 370-380. 15 pages, 6 figure
