    Proactive policy management for heterogeneous networks

    Context-awareness is a vital requirement of heterogeneous devices which allows them to predict future network conditions with sufficient accuracy. In this paper we present a proactive modelling-based approach for policy management which allows the mobile node to calculate Time Before Vertical Handover for open and closed environments. The paper explains how the knowledge of this component can improve the manner in which multi-class traffic streams are allocated to available network channels. Simulation results confirm the feasibility of the concept

    Virtual Runtime Application Partitions for Resource Management in Massively Parallel Architectures

    This thesis presents a novel design paradigm, called Virtual Runtime Application Partitions (VRAP), to judiciously utilize the on-chip resources. As the dark silicon era approaches, where the power considerations will allow only a fraction chip to be powered on, judicious resource management will become a key consideration in future designs. Most of the works on resource management treat only the physical components (i.e. computation, communication, and memory blocks) as resources and manipulate the component to application mapping to optimize various parameters (e.g. energy efficiency). To further enhance the optimization potential, in addition to the physical resources we propose to manipulate abstract resources (i.e. voltage/frequency operating point, the fault-tolerance strength, the degree of parallelism, and the configuration architecture). The proposed framework (i.e. VRAP) encapsulates methods, algorithms, and hardware blocks to provide each application with the abstract resources tailored to its needs. To test the efficacy of this concept, we have developed three distinct self adaptive environments: (i) Private Operating Environment (POE), (ii) Private Reliability Environment (PRE), and (iii) Private Configuration Environment (PCE) that collectively ensure that each application meets its deadlines using minimal platform resources. In this work several novel architectural enhancements, algorithms and policies are presented to realize the virtual runtime application partitions efficiently. Considering the future design trends, we have chosen Coarse Grained Reconfigurable Architectures (CGRAs) and Network on Chips (NoCs) to test the feasibility of our approach. Specifically, we have chosen Dynamically Reconfigurable Resource Array (DRRA) and McNoC as the representative CGRA and NoC platforms. The proposed techniques are compared and evaluated using a variety of quantitative experiments. Synthesis and simulation results demonstrate VRAP significantly enhances the energy and power efficiency compared to state of the art.Siirretty Doriast

    IPv6-Only Network Design and Deployment at IITH

    The aim of thesis is for deploying an IPv6 only daily base enterprise network in IITH and making it fully functional for the daily use and address some of the key current challenges. The motivation for deploying IPv6 only network in the campus is due to the depletion of IPv4 address space. The IPv4 address space is only 32 bits, therefore has 232 addresses whereas IPv6 addresses are represented by 128 bits thereby its address space consists of 2128 addresses which is quite enough to address all the particles in the world with an IP address. Because of this scarcity of IPv4 addresses, many public organizations implemented NAT (Network Address Translation) to map private IPv4 addresses to a single public IPv4 addresses. So like this way NAT helped in dealing with the problem of IPv4 address scarcity. But NAT has got many disadvantages such as NAT adds complexities and it has basic disconnectivity problem with IPv6 only enabled devices. Also NAT has many security issues such as it is not compatible with IPSec protocol. Morover NAT was meant to be just a temporary solution for IPv4 exhaustion. So came the IPv6 address which contains enough IPv6 addresses to address all the devices. But the problem is both IPv4 and IPv6 are not compatible and during initial phase of IPv6 deployment IPv4 and IPv6 coexist together.So there has to be some mechanism to translate IPv4 to IPv6 and vice versa

    A Toolkit for Simulation of Desktop Grid Environment

    Peer to Peers, clusters and grids enable a combination of heterogeneous distributed recourses to resolve problems in different fields such as science, engineering and commerce. Organizations within the world wide grid environment network are offering geographically distributed resources which are administrated by schedulers and policies. Studying the resources behavior is time consuming due to their unique behavior and uniqueness. In this type of environment it is nearly impossible to prove the effectiveness of a scheduling algorithm. Hence the main objective of this study is to develop a desktop grid simulator toolkit for measuring and modeling scheduler algorithm performance. The selected methodology for the application development is based on prototyping methodology. The prototypes will be developed using JAVA language united with a MySQL database. Core functionality of the simulator are job generation, volunteer generation, simulating algorithms, generating graphical charts and generating reports. A simulator for desktop grid environment has been developed using Java as the implementation language due to its wide popularity. The final system has been developed after a successful delivery of two prototypes. Despite the implementation of the mentioned core functionalities of a desktop grid simulator, advanced features such as viewing real-time graphical charts, generating PDF reports of the simulation result and exporting the final result as CSV files has been also included among the other features

    Advanced Internet of Things for Personalised Healthcare System: A Survey

    As a new revolution of the Internet, Internet of Things (IoT) is rapidly gaining ground as a new research topic in many academic and industrial disciplines, especially in healthcare. Remarkably, due to the rapid proliferation of wearable devices and smartphone, the Internet of Things enabled technology is evolving healthcare from conventional hub based system to more personalised healthcare system (PHS). However, empowering the utility of advanced IoT technology in PHS is still significantly challenging in the area considering many issues, like shortage of cost-effective and accurate smart medical sensors, unstandardized IoT system architectures, heterogeneity of connected wearable devices, multi-dimensionality of data generated and high demand for interoperability. In an effect to understand advance of IoT technologies in PHS, this paper will give a systematic review on advanced IoT enabled PHS. It will review the current research of IoT enabled PHS, and key enabling technologies, major IoT enabled applications and successful case studies in healthcare, and finally point out future research trends and challenges

    This thesis will present SLAM in the current literature to benefit from then it will present the investigation results for a hybrid approach used where different algorithms using laser, sonar, and camera sensors were tested and compared. The contribution of this thesis is the development of a hybrid approach for SLAM that uses different sensors and where different factors are taken into consideration such as dynamic objects, and the development of a scalable grid map model with new sensors models for real time update of the map.The thesis will show the success found, difficulties faced and limitations of the algorithms developed which were simulated and experimentally tested in an indoors environment
