A Survey Study of the Current Challenges and Opportunities of Deploying the ECG Biometric Authentication Method in IoT and 5G Environments
The environment prototype of the Internet of Things (IoT) has opened the horizon for researchers to utilize such environments in deploying useful new techniques and methods in different fields and areas. The deployment process takes place when numerous IoT devices are utilized in the implementation phase for new techniques and methods. With the wide use of IoT devices in our daily lives in many fields, personal identification is becoming increasingly important for our society. This survey aims to demonstrate various aspects related to the implementation of biometric authentication in healthcare monitoring systems based on acquiring vital ECG signals via designated wearable devices that are compatible with 5G technology. The nature of ECG signals and current ongoing research related to ECG authentication are investigated in this survey along with the factors that may affect the signal acquisition process. In addition, the survey addresses the psycho-physiological factors that pose a challenge to the usage of ECG signals as a biometric trait in biometric authentication systems along with other challenges that must be addressed and resolved in any future related research.
Smart Computing and Sensing Technologies for Animal Welfare: A Systematic Review
Animals play a profoundly important and intricate role in our lives today.
Dogs have been human companions for thousands of years, but they now work
closely with us to assist the disabled, and in combat and search and rescue
situations. Farm animals are a critical part of the global food supply chain,
and there is increasing consumer interest in organically fed and humanely
raised livestock, and how it impacts our health and environmental footprint.
Wild animals are threatened with extinction by human induced factors, and
shrinking and compromised habitat. This review sets the goal to systematically
survey the existing literature in smart computing and sensing technologies for
domestic, farm and wild animal welfare. We use the notion of \emph{animal
welfare} in broad terms, to review the technologies for assessing whether
animals are healthy, free of pain and suffering, and also positively stimulated
in their environment. Also the notion of \emph{smart computing and sensing} is
used in broad terms, to refer to computing and sensing systems that are not
isolated but interconnected with communication networks, and capable of remote
data collection, processing, exchange and analysis. We review smart
technologies for domestic animals, indoor and outdoor animal farming, as well
as animals in the wild and zoos. The findings of this review are expected to
motivate future research and contribute to data, information and communication
management as well as policy for animal welfare
What Is the Effect of Telehealth and the Internet of Medical Things (IOMT) on Outcomes When Used in At-Risk Pregnancies: A Scoping Review of the Components of Remote Maternal Monitoring for Hypertensive Disorders that Can Successfully be Done Via Digital Technology?
IoMT (Internet of Medical Things) is an emerging technology that facilitates individualized remote e-health services to improve patient\u27s quality of life and satisfaction while decreasing healthcare expenditures. The objective of this scoping review is to explore the usage of IoMT and remote patient monitoring (RPM) in at-risk pregnancies for hypertensive disorders to mitigate pregnancy-related complications. IoMT and other devices in an intelligent health system can meaningfully ameliorate maternal care management in the United States (U.S.). Wearables and nearables, subcategories of IoMT, can be utilized to facilitate patient-centered care and promote excellence in health maintenance/management through a holistic continuum of care approach while decreasing maternal mortality and morbidity in the U.S., which currently has the highest maternal mortality ratio/rate (MMR) among all western nations. IoMT and RPM can leverage the Quadruple Aim framework, the current gold standard in U.S. healthcare service delivery, and exist at the convergence of the different dimensions of care. The four tenets of the Quadruple Aim in delivering high-quality healthcare are to (1) Improve population health, (2) Lower healthcare costs, (3) Enhance patient experience, and (4) Improve care team well-being

INTEGRATION OF INTERNET OF THINGS AND HEALTH RECOMMENDER SYSTEMS
The Internet of Things (IoT) has become a part of our lives and has provided many enhancements to day-to-day living. In this project, IoT in healthcare is reviewed. IoT-based healthcare is utilized in remote health monitoring, observing chronic diseases, individual fitness programs, helping the elderly, and many other healthcare fields. There are three main architectures of smart IoT healthcare: Three-Layer Architecture, Service-Oriented Based Architecture (SoA), and The Middleware-Based IoT Architecture. Depending on the required services, different IoT architecture are being used. In addition, IoT healthcare services, IoT healthcare service enablers, IoT healthcare applications, and IoT healthcare services focusing on Smartwatch are presented in this research. Along with IoT in smart healthcare, Health Recommender Systems integration with IoT is important. Main Recommender Systems including Content-based filtering, Collaborative-based filtering, Knowledge-based filtering, and Hybrid filtering with machine learning algorithms are described for the Health Recommender Systems. In this study, a framework is presented for the IoT-based Health Recommender Systems. Also, a case is investigated on how different algorithms can be used for Recommender Systems and their accuracy levels are presented. Such a framework can help with the health issues, for example, risk of going to see the doctor during pandemic, taking quick actions in any health emergencies, affordability of healthcare services, and enhancing the personal lifestyle using recommendations in non-critical conditions. The proposed framework can necessitate further development of IoT-based Health Recommender Systems so that people can mitigate their medical emergencies and live a healthy life

Application-Specific Things Architectures for IoT-Based Smart Healthcare Solutions
Human body is a complex system organized at different levels such as cells, tissues and organs, which contributes to 11 important organ systems. The functional efficiency of this complex system is evaluated as health. Traditional healthcare is unable to accommodate everyone's need due to the ever-increasing population and medical costs. With advancements in technology and medical research, traditional healthcare applications are shaping into smart healthcare solutions. Smart healthcare helps in continuously monitoring our body parameters, which helps in keeping people health-aware. It provides the ability for remote assistance, which helps in utilizing the available resources to maximum potential. The backbone of smart healthcare solutions is Internet of Things (IoT) which increases the computing capacity of the real-world components by using cloud-based solutions. The basic elements of these IoT based smart healthcare solutions are called "things." Things are simple sensors or actuators, which have the capacity to wirelessly connect with each other and to the internet. The research for this dissertation aims in developing architectures for these things, focusing on IoT-based smart healthcare solutions. The core for this dissertation is to contribute to the research in smart healthcare by identifying applications which can be monitored remotely. For this, application-specific thing architectures were proposed based on monitoring a specific body parameter; monitoring physical health for family and friends; and optimizing the power budget of IoT body sensor network using human body communications. The experimental results show promising scope towards improving the quality of life, through needle-less and cost-effective smart healthcare solutions
Exploring the Landscape of Ubiquitous In-home Health Monitoring: A Comprehensive Survey
Ubiquitous in-home health monitoring systems have become popular in recent
years due to the rise of digital health technologies and the growing demand for
remote health monitoring. These systems enable individuals to increase their
independence by allowing them to monitor their health from the home and by
allowing more control over their well-being. In this study, we perform a
comprehensive survey on this topic by reviewing a large number of literature in
the area. We investigate these systems from various aspects, namely sensing
technologies, communication technologies, intelligent and computing systems,
and application areas. Specifically, we provide an overview of in-home health
monitoring systems and identify their main components. We then present each
component and discuss its role within in-home health monitoring systems. In
addition, we provide an overview of the practical use of ubiquitous
technologies in the home for health monitoring. Finally, we identify the main
challenges and limitations based on the existing literature and provide eight
recommendations for potential future research directions toward the development
of in-home health monitoring systems. We conclude that despite extensive
research on various components needed for the development of effective in-home
health monitoring systems, the development of effective in-home health
monitoring systems still requires further investigation.Comment: 35 pages, 5 figure
