Measurement of Angular Distributions and R= sigma_L/sigma_T in Diffractive Electroproduction of rho^0 Mesons
Production and decay angular distributions were extracted from measurements
of exclusive electroproduction of the rho^0(770) meson over a range in the
virtual photon negative four-momentum squared 0.5< Q^2 <4 GeV^2 and the
photon-nucleon invariant mass range 3.8< W <6.5 GeV. The experiment was
performed with the HERMES spectrometer, using a longitudinally polarized
positron beam and a ^3He gas target internal to the HERA e^{+-} storage ring.
The event sample combines rho^0 mesons produced incoherently off individual
nucleons and coherently off the nucleus as a whole. The distributions in one
production angle and two angles describing the rho^0 -> pi+ pi- decay yielded
measurements of eight elements of the spin-density matrix, including one that
had not been measured before. The results are consistent with the dominance of
helicity-conserving amplitudes and natural parity exchange. The improved
precision achieved at 47 GeV,
reveals evidence for an energy dependence in the ratio R of the longitudinal to

Differential branching fraction and angular analysis of the decay B0→K∗0μ+μ−
The angular distribution and differential branching fraction of the decay B 0→ K ∗0 μ + μ − are studied using a data sample, collected by the LHCb experiment in pp collisions at s√=7 TeV, corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 1.0 fb−1. Several angular observables are measured in bins of the dimuon invariant mass squared, q 2. A first measurement of the zero-crossing point of the forward-backward asymmetry of the dimuon system is also presented. The zero-crossing point is measured to be q20=4.9±0.9GeV2/c4 , where the uncertainty is the sum of statistical and systematic uncertainties. The results are consistent with the Standard Model predictions
Cooperation under incomplete contracting
We examine the notion of the core when cooperation takes place in a setting with time and uncertainty. We do so in a two-period general equilibrium setting with
incomplete markets. Market incompleteness implies that players cannot make all possible binding commitments regarding their actions at different date-events. We
unify various treatments of dynamic core concepts existing in the literature. This results in definitions of the Classical Core, the Segregated Core, the Two-stage Core, the Strong Sequential Core, and the Weak Sequential Core. Except for the Classical Core, all these concepts can be defined by requiring absence of blocking in period 0 and at any date-event in period 1. The concepts only differ with respect to the notion of blocking in period 0. To evaluate these concepts, we study three market structures in detail: strongly complete markets, incomplete markets in finance economies, and incomplete markets in settings with multiple commodities
Diagnosing serious infections in acutely ill children in ambulatory care (ERNIE 2 study protocol, part A): diagnostic accuracy of a clinical decision tree and added value of a point-of-care C-reactive protein test and oxygen saturation
Background: Acute illness is the most common presentation of children to ambulatory care. In contrast, serious infections are rare and often present at an early stage. To avoid complications or death, early recognition and adequate referral are essential. In a recent large study children were included prospectively to construct a symptom-based decision tree with a sensitivity and negative predictive value of nearly 100%. To reduce the number of false positives, point-of-care tests might be useful, providing an immediate result at bedside. The most probable candidate is C-reactive protein, as well as a pulse oximetry.
Methods: This is a diagnostic accuracy study of signs, symptoms and point-of-care tests for serious infections. Acutely ill children presenting to a family physician or paediatrician will be included consecutively in Flanders, Belgium. Children testing positive on the decision tree will get a point-of-care C-reactive protein test. Children testing negative will randomly either receive a point-of-care C-reactive protein test or usual care. The outcome of interest is hospital admission more than 24 hours with a serious infection within 10 days. Aiming to include over 6500 children, we will report the diagnostic accuracy of the decision tree (+/- the point-of-care C-reactive protein test or pulse oximetry) in sensitivity, specificity, positive and negative likelihood ratios, and positive and negative predictive values. New diagnostic algorithms will be constructed through classification and regression tree and multiple logistic regression analysis.
Discussion: We aim to improve detection of serious infections, and present a practical tool for diagnostic triage of acutely ill children in primary care. We also aim to reduce the number of investigations and admissions in children with non-serious infections
Pain-avoidance versus reward-seeking: an experimental investigation
According to fear-avoidance models, a catastrophic interpretation of a painful experience may give rise to pain-related fear and avoidance, leading to the development and maintenance of chronic pain problems in the long term. However, little is known about how exactly motivation and goal prioritization play a role in the development of pain-related fear. This study investigates these processes in healthy volunteers using an experimental context with multiple, competing goals. In a differential human fear-conditioning paradigm, 57 participants performed joystick movements. In the control condition, one movement (conditioned stimulus; CS+) was followed by a painful electrocutaneous unconditioned stimulus (pain-US) in 50% of the trials, whereas another movement (nonreinforced conditioned stimulus; CS-) was not. In the experimental condition, a reward in the form of lottery tickets (reward-US) accompanied the presentation of the pain-US. Participants were classified into 3 groups, as a function of the goal, they reported to be the most important: (1) pain-avoidance, (2) reward-seeking, and (3) both goals being equally important. Results indicated that neither the reward co-occurring with pain nor the prioritized goal modulated pain-related fear. However, during subsequent choice trials, participants selected the painful movement more often when the reward was presented compared with the context in which the reward was absent. The latter effect was dependent on goal prioritization, with more frequent selections in the reward-seeking group, and the least selections in the pain-avoidance group. Taken together, these results underscore the importance of competing goals and goal prioritization in the attenuation of avoidance behavior
Computer-assisted versus oral-and-written dietary history taking for diabetes mellitus
Background: Diabetes is a chronic illness characterised by insulin resistance or deficiency, resulting in elevated glycosylated haemoglobin A1c (HbA1c) levels. Diet and adherence to dietary advice is associated with lower HbA1c levels and control of disease. Dietary history may be an effective clinical tool for diabetes management and has traditionally been taken by oral-and-written methods, although it can also be collected using computer-assisted history taking systems (CAHTS). Although CAHTS were first described in the 1960s, there remains uncertainty about the impact of these methods on dietary history collection, clinical care and patient outcomes such as quality of life.
Objectives: To assess the effects of computer-assisted versus oral-and-written dietary history taking on patient outcomes for diabetes mellitus.
Search methods: We searched The Cochrane Library (issue 6, 2011), MEDLINE (January 1985 to June 2011), EMBASE (January 1980 to June 2011) and CINAHL (January 1981 to June 2011). Reference lists of obtained articles were also pursued further and no limits were imposed on languages and publication status.
Selection criteria: Randomised controlled trials of computer-assisted versus oral-and-written history taking in patients with diabetes mellitus.
Data collection and analysis: Two authors independently scanned the title and abstract of retrieved articles. Potentially relevant articles were investigated as full text. Studies that met the inclusion criteria were abstracted for relevant population and intervention characteristics with any disagreements resolved by discussion, or by a third party. Risk of bias was similarly assessed independently.
Main results: Of the 2991 studies retrieved, only one study with 38 study participants compared the two methods of history taking over a total of eight weeks. The authors found that as patients became increasingly familiar with using CAHTS, the correlation between patients' food records and computer assessments improved. Reported fat intake decreased in the control group and increased when queried by the computer. The effect of the intervention on the management of diabetes mellitus and blood glucose levels was not reported. Risk of bias was considered moderate for this study.
Authors' conclusions: Based on one small study judged to be of moderate risk of bias, we tentatively conclude that CAHTS may be well received by study participants and potentially offer time saving in practice. However, more robust studies with larger sample sizes are needed to confirm these. We cannot draw on any conclusions in relation to any other clinical outcomes at this stage
Quantum Enhancement of the Zero-Area Sagnac Interferometer Topology for Gravitational Wave Detection
Only a few years ago, it was realized that the zero-area Sagnac
interferometer topology is able to perform quantum nondemolition measurements
of position changes of a mechanical oscillator. Here, we experimentally show
that such an interferometer can also be efficiently enhanced by squeezed light.
We achieved a nonclassical sensitivity improvement of up to 8.2 dB, limited by
optical loss inside our interferometer. Measurements performed directly on our
squeezed-light laser output revealed squeezing of 12.7 dB. We show that the
sensitivity of a squeezed-light enhanced Sagnac interferometer can surpass the
standard quantum limit for a broad spectrum of signal frequencies without the
need for filter cavities as required for Michelson interferometers. The Sagnac
topology is therefore a powerful option for future gravitational-wave
detectors, such as the Einstein Telescope, whose design is currently being

Continuous mapping approach to the asymptotics of - and -statistics
We derive a new representation for - and -statistics. Using this
representation, the asymptotic distribution of - and -statistics can be
derived by a direct application of the Continuous Mapping theorem. That novel
approach not only encompasses most of the results on the asymptotic
distribution known in literature, but also allows for the first time a unifying
treatment of non-degenerate and degenerate - and -statistics. Moreover,
it yields a new and powerful tool to derive the asymptotic distribution of very
general - and -statistics based on long-memory sequences. This will be
exemplified by several astonishing examples. In particular, we shall present
examples where weak convergence of - or -statistics occurs at the rate
and , respectively, when is the rate of weak convergence
of the empirical process. We also introduce the notion of asymptotic (non-)

PredNet and Predictive Coding: A Critical Review
PredNet, a deep predictive coding network developed by Lotter et al.,
combines a biologically inspired architecture based on the propagation of
prediction error with self-supervised representation learning in video. While
the architecture has drawn a lot of attention and various extensions of the
model exist, there is a lack of a critical analysis. We fill in the gap by
evaluating PredNet both as an implementation of the predictive coding theory
and as a self-supervised video prediction model using a challenging video
action classification dataset. We design an extended model to test if
conditioning future frame predictions on the action class of the video improves
the model performance. We show that PredNet does not yet completely follow the
principles of predictive coding. The proposed top-down conditioning leads to a
performance gain on synthetic data, but does not scale up to the more complex
real-world action classification dataset. Our analysis is aimed at guiding
future research on similar architectures based on the predictive coding theory

Twitter messages are a potentially rich source of continuously and instantly updated information. Shortness and informality of such messages are challenges for Natural Language Processing tasks. In this paper we present a hybrid approach for Named Entity Extraction (NEE) and Classification (NEC) for tweets. The system uses the power of the Conditional Random Fields (CRF) and the Support Vector Machines (SVM) in a hybrid way to achieve better results. For named entity type classification we used AIDA \cite{YosefHBSW11} disambiguation system to disambiguate the extracted named entities and hence find their type
