Interactive Multimedia Design In Museum Gallery
The rapid development of digital technologies has made digital media widely available to everyone. Some museum galleries in Malaysia, such as the National Museum, have made use of interactive multimedia, which provides interaction between the users and the items being displayed. Regardless of the presence and accessibility of interactive multimedia, few studies have indicated that research on museum visitors in Malaysia, especially museums with interactive multimedia display, are still lacking. In this research, an interactive multimedia is proposed to enhance visitors’ experience by using design elements and design principles. With the usage of the Norman’s Emotional Design Model as the conceptual theory, the study was conducted to gain insights of interactive multimedia usage and visitors’ perceptions and preferences. The outcome of this study will provide designers and developers the option of considering work closely in order to deliver the best interface design for interactive multimedia. This research will also benefit the museums in Malaysia as it is able to provide an insight into the awareness of interactive multimedia and touch screens usage for more engaging experience. It also encourages visitors to educate and entertain themselves with interactive and multi-sensory contents. Overall, the results provide directions for curatorial and design criteria issues for interactive multimedia in informal learning institution such as galleries in museums. Fine-tuning Large Language Model (LLM) Artificial Intelligence Chatbots in Ophthalmology and LLM-based evaluation using GPT-4
Purpose: To assess the alignment of GPT-4-based evaluation to human clinician
experts, for the evaluation of responses to ophthalmology-related patient
queries generated by fine-tuned LLM chatbots. Methods: 400 ophthalmology
questions and paired answers were created by ophthalmologists to represent
commonly asked patient questions, divided into fine-tuning (368; 92%), and
testing (40; 8%). We find-tuned 5 different LLMs, including LLAMA2-7b,
LLAMA2-7b-Chat, LLAMA2-13b, and LLAMA2-13b-Chat. For the testing dataset,
additional 8 glaucoma QnA pairs were included. 200 responses to the testing
dataset were generated by 5 fine-tuned LLMs for evaluation. A customized
clinical evaluation rubric was used to guide GPT-4 evaluation, grounded on
clinical accuracy, relevance, patient safety, and ease of understanding. GPT-4
evaluation was then compared against ranking by 5 clinicians for clinical
alignment. Results: Among all fine-tuned LLMs, GPT-3.5 scored the highest
(87.1%), followed by LLAMA2-13b (80.9%), LLAMA2-13b-chat (75.5%),
LLAMA2-7b-Chat (70%) and LLAMA2-7b (68.8%) based on the GPT-4 evaluation. GPT-4
evaluation demonstrated significant agreement with human clinician rankings,
with Spearman and Kendall Tau correlation coefficients of 0.90 and 0.80
respectively; while correlation based on Cohen Kappa was more modest at 0.50.
Notably, qualitative analysis and the glaucoma sub-analysis revealed clinical
inaccuracies in the LLM-generated responses, which were appropriately
identified by the GPT-4 evaluation. Conclusion: The notable clinical alignment
of GPT-4 evaluation highlighted its potential to streamline the clinical
evaluation of LLM chatbot responses to healthcare-related queries. By
complementing the existing clinician-dependent manual grading, this efficient
and automated evaluation could assist the validation of future developments in

The gains and losses of face in ongoing intercultural interaction: A case study of Chinese participant perspectives
Given the small number of existing studies of face in intercultural settings and the increasing attention given to participant perspectives in face research, this paper explores the gains and losses of face as perceived by Chinese government officials during a three-week delegation visit to the United States of America. These perspectives were obtained from the group’s spontaneous discussions during regular evening meetings when they reflected on the day’s events. Several key features emerged from the discussions. Firstly, face enhancement was a primary goal for the visit – enhancement of their own face as a delegation, of the face of the Ministry they belonged to, as well as the face of their American hosts. Secondly, the delegates attempted to manage these face goals strategically. Thirdly, they spoke of face as a volatile image that could rise and fall sharply and yet endured across incidents, days and weeks. Attitude, acceptability and knowledge of HPV vaccination among local university students in Hong Kong
© 2016 by the authors; licensee MDPI, Basel, Switzerland. The Human Papillomavirus (HPV) vaccine has the great potential to prevent HPV-related infections for millions of women and men worldwide. However, the success of the vaccine is highly dependent on the vaccination rate. Factors influencing the attitudes of undergraduate students towards HPV vaccination should be studied. This is a cross-sectional survey that was conducted to estimate the HPV vaccination rate among undergraduate students in Hong Kong, and to identify the predictors of their attitude towards HPV vaccination. The results showed that the HPV vaccination rate was 13.3%. Factors related to knowledge of vaccination were the main predictors of the studentsâ attitude towards vaccination (there were seven predictors, with B = 1.36 to 2.30; p < 0.05), followed by gender (B =-1.40; p < 0.05), acceptable maximum price (B = 0.35; p < 0.05), and willingness to receive the HPV vaccine if it can protect against cervical/anal cancer and genital warts (B =-1.90; p < 0.001).Theregressionmodelthatwasdevelopedbasedonthepredictorshadamoderateeffect size (adj-R 2 = 0.33). To conclude, the HPV vaccination rate among undergraduate students in Hong Kong was low. A review: modified agricultural by-products for the development and fortification of food products and nutraceuticals
Producing more food for a growing population in the coming decades, while at the same time combating environmental issues, is a huge challenge faced by the worldwide population. The risks that come with climate change make the mission more daunting. Billion tons of agriculture by-products are produced each year along the agricultural and food processing processes. There is a need to take further actions on exploring the inner potential of agro-waste to stand out as food ingredient to partially or fully substitute the foods in orthodox list. Some of the agro-waste contains the most valuable nutrients in the plant and it is truly a “waste” to dispose any of them. Furthermore, the paper aims at discussing the possible methods of modification to improve the safety and feasibility of the agro-waste either through physical, chemical or microbiological ways. The safety issues and bioactivity contains in the agro-waste also been discussed to present the better overall ideas about the employing of agro-waste in food applications
A simple DNA stretching method for fluorescence imaging of single DNA molecules
Stretching or aligning DNA molecules onto a surface by means of molecular combing techniques is one of the critical steps in single DNA molecule analysis. However, many of the current studies have focused on λ-DNA, or other large DNA molecules. There are very few studies on stretching methodologies for DNA molecules generated via PCR (typically smaller than 20 kb). Here we describe a simple method of stretching DNA molecules up to 18 kb in size on a modified glass surface. The very low background fluorescence allows efficient detection of single fluorescent dye labels incorporated into the stretched DNA molecules
Lipid anti-lipid antibody responses correlate with disease activity in systemic lupus erythematosus.
Systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE) is a chronic autoimmune disorder characterized by broad clinical manifestations including cardiovascular and renal complications with periodic disease flares and significant morbidity and mortality. One of the main contributing factors to the pathology of SLE is the accumulation and impaired clearance of immune complexes of which the principle components are host auto-antigens and antibodies. The contribution of host lipids to the formation of these autoimmune complexes remains poorly defined. The aim of the present study was to identify and analyze candidate lipid autoantigens and their corresponding anti-lipid antibody responses in a well-defined SLE patient cohort using a combination of immunological and biophysical techniques. Disease monitoring in the SLE cohort was undertaken with serial British Isles Lupus Assessment Group (BILAG) scoring. Correlations between specific lipid/anti-lipid responses were investigated as disease activity developed from active flares to quiescent during a follow up period. We report a significant negative correlation between anti-lipid antibodies for 24S-hydroxycholesterol, cardiolipin and phosphatidylserine with SLE disease activity. Taken together, these data suggest that lipid autoantigens represent a new family of biomarkers that can be employed to monitor disease activity plus the efficacy of therapeutic intervention in SLE
Generation and Characterization of a Novel Recombinant Antibody Against 15-Ketocholestane Isolated by Phage-Display
The employment of monoclonal antibodies (Mabs) to identify disease-associated biomarkers in clinical samples represents the underlying principle for many diagnostic tests. To date, these have been principally developed for protein targets with few reported applications for lipids due to their hydrophobicity and poor immunogenicity. Oxysterols represent a family of lipids implicated in diverse human diseases where Mab-based detection assays could have a profound effect on their utility as clinical biomarkers. These are usually identified in patients’ samples by mass- spectrometry based approaches. Here, we describe an antibody phage-library based screening methodology for generating a recombinant monoclonal antibody (RAb) targeting the oxysterol-15-ketocholestane (15-KA), a lipid implicated in multiple sclerosis and Autoimmune Encephalomyelitis (EAE). The antibody is highly specific for 15-KA and shows little or no binding activity for other closely related oxysterols. We employ RAb2E9 to address the controversy over whether 15-KA is a true biomarker for MS/EAE and show that 15-KA is undetectable in serum taken from mice with EAE using antibody based detection methodologies; a finding confirmed by mass-spectrometry analysis. Rapid DNA mapping by fluorescent single molecule detection
DNA mapping is an important analytical tool in genomic sequencing, medical diagnostics and pathogen identification. Here we report an optical DNA mapping strategy based on direct imaging of individual DNA molecules and localization of multiple sequence motifs on the molecules. Individual genomic DNA molecules were labeled with fluorescent dyes at specific sequence motifs by the action of nicking endonuclease followed by the incorporation of dye terminators with DNA polymerase. The labeled DNA molecules were then stretched into linear form on a modified glass surface and imaged using total internal reflection fluorescence (TIRF) microscopy. By determining the positions of the fluorescent labels with respect to the DNA backbone, the distribution of the sequence motif recognized by the nicking endonuclease can be established with good accuracy, in a manner similar to reading a barcode. With this approach, we constructed a specific sequence motif map of lambda-DNA. We further demonstrated the capability of this approach to rapidly type a human adenovirus and several strains of human rhinovirus
