Hospitality, Culture and Regeneration: Urban decay, entrepreneurship and the "ruin" bars of Budapest
This paper considers the relationships between hospitality, culture and urban regeneration through an examination of rom (ruin) venues, which operate in dilapidated buildings in Budapest, Hungary. The paper reviews previous work on culture and urban regeneration in order to locate the role of hospitality within emerging debates. It subsequently interrogates the evolution of the rom phenomenon and demonstrates how, in this context, hospitality thrives because of social and physical decay in urban locations, how operators and entrepreneurs exploit conflicts among various actors involved in regeneration, and how hospitality may be mobilised purposefully in the regeneration process. The paper demonstrates how networked entrepreneurship maintains these operations and how various forms of cultural production are entangled and mobilised in the venues’ hospitality propositions
On the Quantum Invariant for the Spherical Seifert Manifold
We study the Witten--Reshetikhin--Turaev SU(2) invariant for the Seifert
manifold where is a finite subgroup of SU(2). We show
that the WRT invariants can be written in terms of the Eichler integral of the
modular forms with half-integral weight, and we give an exact asymptotic
expansion of the invariants by use of the nearly modular property of the
Eichler integral. We further discuss that those modular forms have a direct
connection with the polyhedral group by showing that the invariant polynomials
of modular forms satisfy the polyhedral equations associated to .Comment: 36 page
b-Jet Identification in the D0 Experiment
Algorithms distinguishing jets originating from b quarks from other jet
flavors are important tools in the physics program of the D0 experiment at the
Fermilab Tevatron p-pbar collider. This article describes the methods that have
been used to identify b-quark jets, exploiting in particular the long lifetimes
of b-flavored hadrons, and the calibration of the performance of these

Measurement of spin correlation in ttbar production using dilepton final states
We measure the correlation between the spin of the top quark and the spin of
the anti-top quark in (ttbar -> W+ W- b bbar -> l+ nu b l- nubar bbar) final
states produced in ppbar collisions at a center of mass energy sqrt(s)=1.96
TeV, where l is an electron or muon. The data correspond to an integrated
luminosity of 5.4 fb-1 and were collected with the D0 detector at the Fermilab
Tevatron collider. The correlation is extracted from the angles of the two
leptons in the t and tbar rest frames, yielding a correlation strength C=
0.10^{+0.45}_{-0.45}, in agreement with the NLO QCD prediction within two
standard deviations, but also in agreement with the no correlation hypothesis.Comment: 10 pages, 3 figures, submitted to PL
Search for the standard model Higgs boson in tau final states
We present a search for the standard model Higgs boson using hadronically
decaying tau leptons, in 1 inverse femtobarn of data collected with the D0
detector at the Fermilab Tevatron ppbar collider. We select two final states:
tau plus missing transverse energy and b jets, and tau+ tau- plus jets. These
final states are sensitive to a combination of associated W/Z boson plus Higgs
boson, vector boson fusion and gluon-gluon fusion production processes. The
observed ratio of the combined limit on the Higgs production cross section at
the 95% C.L. to the standard model expectation is 29 for a Higgs boson mass of
115 GeV.Comment: publication versio
Search for pair production of the scalar top quark in the electron-muon final state
We report the result of a search for the pair production of the lightest
supersymmetric partner of the top quark () in
collisions at a center-of-mass energy of 1.96 TeV at the Fermilab Tevatron
collider corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 5.4 fb. The scalar
top quarks are assumed to decay into a quark, a charged lepton, and a
scalar neutrino (), and the search is performed in the electron
plus muon final state. No significant excess of events above the standard model
prediction is detected, and improved exclusion limits at the 95% C.L. are set
in the the (,) mass plane
Search for scalar bottom quarks and third-generation leptoquarks in ppbar collisions at sqrt(s) = 1.96 TeV
We report the results of a search for pair production of scalar bottom quarks
(sbottom) and scalar third-generation leptoquarks in 5.2 fb-1 of ppbar
collisions at the D0 experiment of the Fermilab Tevatron Collider. Scalar
bottom quarks are assumed to decay to a neutralino and a quark, and we set
95% C.L. lower limits on their production in the (m_sbottom, m_neutralino) mass
plane such as m_sbottom>247 GeV for m_neutralino=0 and m_neutralino>110 GeV for
160<m_sbottom<200 GeV. The leptoquarks are assumed to decay to a tau neutrino
and a quark, and we set a 95% C.L. lower limit of 247 GeV on the mass of a
charge-1/3 third-generation scalar leptoquark.Comment: Published by Phys. Lett.
An observational study of pleiotropy and penetrance of amyotrophic lateral sclerosis associated with CAG-repeat expansion of ATXN2
Spinocerebellar ataxia type 2 (SCA2) and amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS) are both associated with a CAG-repeat expansion in ATXN2 and with TDP-43-positive neuronal cytoplasmic inclusions. The two disorders have been viewed as distinct entities, where an intermediate length expansion of 31-33 CAG-repeats is associated with sporadic ALS and a full length expansion of ≥34 CAG-repeats is associated with SCA2. We report the clinical phenotype of ATXN2-positive patients and their relatives, identified in three specialist ALS clinics, which force a reconsideration of this dichotomy. We also report the frequency of ATXN2 expansions in two large cohorts of ALS patients and in a population-matched cohort of controls. We report ten cases of familial ALS in which disease is associated with either an intermediate or a full-length ATXN2 CAG-repeat expansion. Pedigrees and patients feature additional phenotypes including parkinsonism, dementia and essential tremor (ET). We conclude that CAG-repeat expansions in ATXN2 exhibit pleiotropy and are associated with a disease spectrum that includes ALS, SCA2, and parkinsonism; to recognise this complexity we propose the new term ‘ATXN2-related neurodegeneration’. We also observed sporadic ALS associated with full-length expansions. We conclude that ATXN2 CAG-repeat expansions, irrespective of length, should be considered a risk factor for ALS. Interrupted CAG-repeats were associated with an ALS phenotype in our data but we also identified ALS cases with uninterrupted expansions. Our findings have relevance for researchers, patients and families linked to CAG-repeat expansions in ATXN2
A measurement of the ratio of inclusive cross sections at TeV
The ratio of the cross section for interactions producing a
boson and at least one quark jet to the inclusive cross
section is measured using of collisions
collected with the \dzero\ detector at the Fermilab Tevatron collider at
TeV. The candidate events with at
least one jet are discriminated from charm and light jet(s) events by
a novel technique that exploits the properties of the tracks associated to the
jet. The measured ratio is for events having a jet with
transverse momentum \pt > 20 \GeV and pseudorapidity , which
