    Design of metallic nanoparticles gratings for filtering properties in the visible spectrum

    Plasmonic resonances in metallic nanoparticles are exploited to create efficient optical filtering functions. A Finite Element Method is used to model metallic nanoparticles gratings. The accuracy of this method is shown by comparing numerical results with measurements on a two-dimensional grating of gold nanocylinders with elliptic cross section. Then a parametric analysis is performed in order to design efficient filters with polarization dependent properties together with high transparency over the visible range. The behavior of nanoparticle gratings is also modelled using the Maxwell-Garnett homogenization theory and analyzed by comparison with the diffraction by a single nanoparticle. The proposed structures are intended to be included in optical systems which could find innovative applications.Comment: submitted to Applied Optic

    Проведено иммунологическое обследование 8 детей с зубосодержащими кистами от временных мо­ ляров нижней челюсти с определением основных популяций лимфоцитов в периферической крови зубо­ альвеолярного сегмента. Образование зубосодержащей кисты происходит на фоне уменьшения количе­ ства лимфоцитов с хелперно-индукторной функцией и увеличения количества лимфоцитов с иммуносу- прессивными свойствами. Імовірність утворення кісти зростає за зниження показника імунорегуляторного індексу до 1,3.The general populations of lymphocytes in peripheral blood of dentoalveolar segments have been deter­ mined during the examination of eight patients with dentigerous cyst from mandibular decidious molars. The dentigerous cyst formation is accompanied by decrease in the number of lymphocytes with helper-inductor function and increase in the number of lymphocytes with immunosuppressive properties. The chance of cyst formation increases with decrease in immunoregulatory index to 1.3

    Elevated virulence of an emerging viral genotype as a driver of honeybee loss.

    PublishedJournal ArticleEmerging infectious diseases (EIDs) have contributed significantly to the current biodiversity crisis, leading to widespread epidemics and population loss. Owing to genetic variation in pathogen virulence, a complete understanding of species decline requires the accurate identification and characterization of EIDs. We explore this issue in the Western honeybee, where increasing mortality of populations in the Northern Hemisphere has caused major concern. Specifically, we investigate the importance of genetic identity of the main suspect in mortality, deformed wing virus (DWV), in driving honeybee loss. Using laboratory experiments and a systematic field survey, we demonstrate that an emerging DWV genotype (DWV-B) is more virulent than the established DWV genotype (DWV-A) and is widespread in the landscape. Furthermore, we show in a simple model that colonies infected with DWV-B collapse sooner than colonies infected with DWV-A. We also identify potential for rapid DWV evolution by revealing extensive genome-wide recombination in vivo The emergence of DWV-B in naive honeybee populations, including via recombination with DWV-A, could be of significant ecological and economic importance.     Somatoform disorders – psycho­genic diseases are characterized by pathological physical symptoms that resemble somatic illness. Thus, any organic manifestations, which can be attributed to known diseases are not detected, but there are non-specific functional impairments. Somatoform disorders include somatization disorder, undifferentiated somatoform disorder, hypocho­n­driacal disorder, somatoform dysfunction of the autonomic nervous system and stable somatoform pain disorder. The first part of the article reviewes features of the clinical manifestations of somatization disorder and undifferentiated somatoform disorder. Role of non-benzodiazepine tranquilizers (ADAPTOL) and metabolic drugs (VASONAT) in the treatment of patients with somatoform disorders is discussed. In review article data of neurologists and cardiologists on the effectiveness of anxiolytic drug ADAPTOL and metabolic drug VASONAT in different clinical groups of patients (coronary artery disease, chronic ischemia of the brain), which can significantly improve quality of life, increase exercise tolerance, improve cognitive function and correct mental and emotional disorders are presented

    Global profiling of miRNAs and the hairpin precursors: insights into miRNA processing and novel miRNA discovery

    MicroRNAs (miRNAs) constitute an important class of small regulatory RNAs that are derived from distinct hairpin precursors (pre-miRNAs). In contrast to mature miRNAs, which have been characterized in numerous genome-wide studies of different organisms, research on global profiling of pre-miRNAs is limited. Here, using massive parallel sequencing, we have performed global characterization of both mouse mature and precursor miRNAs. In total, 87 369 704 and 252 003 sequencing reads derived from 887 mature and 281 precursor miRNAs were obtained, respectively. Our analysis revealed new aspects of miRNA/pre-miRNA processing and modification, including eight Ago2-cleaved pre-miRNAs, eight new instances of miRNA editing and exclusively 5' tailed mirtrons. Furthermore, based on the sequences of both mature and precursor miRNAs, we developed a miRNA discovery pipeline, miRGrep, which does not rely on the availability of genome reference sequences. In addition to 239 known mouse pre-miRNAs, miRGrep predicted 41 novel ones with high confidence. Similar as known ones, the mature miRNAs derived from most of these novel loci showed both reduced abundance following Dicer knockdown and the binding with Argonaute2. Evaluation on data sets obtained from Caenorhabditis elegans and Caenorhabditis sp.11 demonstrated that miRGrep could be widely used for miRNA discovery in metazoans, especially in those without genome reference sequences

    Introduction: Dental implantation in conditions of bone deficiency in the loss of lateral group of teeth of the upper jaw is impossible without the maxillary sinus floor augmentation. Preparation for surgical intervention requires a thorough assessment of the anatomical features of the sinus, relationship between the sinus and adjacent teeth, detection of foci of chronic infection of the Schneiderian membrane. In the complex of the objective methods of investigation, computed tomography is the most informative approach to study the state of the bone and soft tissue structure of the sinus. The aim of the paper is to evaluate the state of the bone structures and maxillary sinus membrane to determine the technique for selection the optimum alternative for management of patients, who required sinus lift, based on the computed tomography. Materials and methods: Computed tomographic examination of 206 patients with bounded and free-end edentulous spaces in the lateral area of the upper jaw was carried out over a period of 2010-2017 to evaluate the appropriateness of sinus lift approach and selection of its technique. The state of the bone tissue and presence of the auxiliary septa, intranasal structures, including ostiomeatal complex, presence of edema and exudates, lesions of the mucosa, as well as the state of ostium maxillaris has been estimated. Results: In the projection of the maxillary sinus the thickness of the bone tissue ranged within 1 mm to 10,5 mm; the density of bone tissues was of the D3-D4 type. Inflammatory events were detected in 60,1%, including: thickening of the mucous membrane on the right and on the left (40,6% and 41,1%, respectively), the total edema (8,6% and 9,7%, respectively). Bilateral thickening was found in 38,8%, and bilateral total edema in 28,0% of cases. Remnants of the filling material were found in 1,4% of sinuses on the right and in 2,8% on the left. Bone septum was visualized on the right in 18,8%, and in 17,4% on the left, bilateral in the 31,8%. Cystic masses were detected on the right in 4,2% of cases and in 6,2% on the left, bilateral in 16,7%. Conclusions: Computed tomographic examination provides thorough evaluation of the parameters of the bone tissues, state of mucous membrane and peculiarities of architectonics of maxillary sinuses at the pre-implantation stage

    Genome-wide profiling reveals remarkable parallels between insertion site selection properties of the MLV retrovirus and the piggyBac transposon in primary human CD4(+) T cells

    The inherent risks associated with vector insertion in gene therapy need to be carefully assessed. We analyzed the genome-wide distributions of Sleeping Beauty (SB) and piggyBac (PB) transposon insertions as well as MLV retrovirus and HIV lentivirus insertions in human CD4+ T cells cells with respect to a panel of 40 chromatin states. The distribution of SB transposon insertions displayed the least deviation from random, while the PB transposon and the MLV retrovirus showed unexpected parallels across all chromatin states. Both MLV and PB insertions are enriched at transcriptional start sites (TSSs) and co-localize with BRD4-associated sites. We demonstrate physical interaction between the PB transposase and BET-domain proteins (including BRD4), suggesting convergent evolution of a tethering mechanism that directs integrating genetic elements into TSSs. We detect unequal biases across the four systems with respect to targeting genes whose deregulation has been previously linked to serious adverse events in gene therapy clinical trials. The SB transposon has the highest theoretical chance of targeting a safe harbor locus in the human genome. The data underscore the significance of vector choice to reduce the mutagenic load on cells in clinical applications
