From the industrial district to the innovative milieu: Contribution to an analysis of territorialised productive organisations
The interest shown in territorialized productive organizations does not simply account for a geographical phenomenon but above all highlights the territorial dimension of development and innovation processes. In the wake of the work done on Italian industrial districts, numerous studies have been conducted that have made it possible to identify similar forms of localized productive organizations. The aim of the present paper is to attempt a synthesis of the way in which these territorialized productive organizations work. To do so, we shall select two concepts: the localized production system and the milieu. The fundamental question is then to identify which logic influences the way a localized production system works: the milieu-actuated territorial logic or the functional logic, which corresponds to industrial organization of an hierarchical natur

Defining manipulative discourse: the pragmatics of cognitive illusions
Manipulative discourse has attracted a lot of attention in various adjacent domains of linguistic research, notably in rhetoric, argumentation theory, philosophy of language, discourse analysis, pragmatics, among others. We start with a review of the existing definitions provided in these fields and highlight some of the difficulties they encounter. In particular, we argue that there is still a need for an analytic model that makes predictions about manipulative discourse. We propose an alternative account of manipulation couched in the relevance-theoretic framework which treats manipulation as a two-step communicative attempt at misleading the contextselection process when interpreting a target utterance. We argue further that such attempts systematically exploit the inherent weaknesses or fl aws of the human cognitive system that are amply discussed in cognitive psychology under the heading of âcognitive illusionsâ. We claim that such a model correctly captures classical instances of manipulative discourse which fall outside the scope of other accounts

Scale of hospitality firms and local economic development: evidence from Crete
The hospitality industry generates benefits for many host communities including employment generation and foreign exchange earnings. However, the hospitality industry often leads to external dependency contributing to a loss of local control over resources, migrant workforce and leakages outside the local economy, seriously reducing industry's potential for generating net financial advantages and growth for the local economy. Despite the variation of size of hospitality firms, there is still limited research on how well different size hospitality firms contribute to local economic development, something which this paper addresses, taking as a case the island of Crete. The findings suggest that the smaller the size of hospitality firm the larger the benefits to the local economy
A silent cry for leadership : organizing for leading (in) clusters
Leadership research so far has neglected clusters as a particular context for leadership, while research on networks and clusters has hardly studied leadership issues. This paper fills this dual gap in the abundant research on leadership on the one hand and on networks/clusters on the other by investigating leadership in photonics clusters from a structuration perspective. Apart from giving an insight into the variety and patterns of leadership practices observed, the paper addresses the dilemma that regional innovation systems such as clusters usually have a critical need of some kind of leadership, but that neither individual nor organizational actors wish to be led. This dilemma can only be âmanagedâ by organizing for leading (in) clusters in a certain way
