Experimental And Theoretical Study On The Reactivity Of The R-cn/h2o2 System In The Epoxidation Of Unfunctionalized Olefins
A study on the reactivity of peroxycarboximidic acids in situ generated from acetonitrile, trichloroacetonitrile, benzonitrile, m-chlorobenzonitrile, 3-cyanopyridine, 1-naphthonitrile and 9-anthracenenitrile was performed by semiempirical AM1 method and experimentally in the epoxidation of cyclohexene and R-(+)-limonene. Experimental results showed that the reactivity of Cl3CCN/H2O2 was quite similar to MCPBA in the epoxidation of unfunctionalized olefins when a biphasic mixture CH2Cl2/H2O was employed as solvent.1214246Wiberg, K.B., (1953) J. REGIONALIZAÇÃO NUM CONTEXTO DE DESENVOLVIMENTO LOCAL

In this work we report on the epoxidation of soybean oil by the trichloroacetonitrile -CH2Cl2/H2O2 byphasic system. The reaction was carried out at room temperature and, most importantly, in non acid conditions which prevent the opening of the oxirane ring. The epoxidized soybean oil was characterized by infrared, 1H and 13C NMR. A maximum conversion of 81 % was achieved in two hours with 86% of selectivity in epoxy groupsEn el presente trabajo informamos sobre la epoxidación de aceite de soja mediante el sistema bifásico tricloroacetonitrilo-CH2Cl2/H2O2.
Selective Hydrogenation of Acrolein Over Pd Model Catalysts: Temperature and Particle-Size Effects
In this work, the selectivity in hydrogenation of acrolein over Fe 3 O 4 -supported Pd nanoparticles is investigated as a function of nanoparticle size in the 220-270 K temperature range. While Pd(111) shows nearly 100% selectivity towards the desired hydrogenation of the C=O bond to produce propenol, Pd nanoparticles were found to be much less selective towards this product. In-situ detection of surface species using infrared-reflection absorption spectroscopy shows that the selectivity towards propenol critically depends on the formation of an oxopropyl spectator
species. While an overlayer of oxopropyl species is effectively formed on Pd(111) turning the surface highly selective for propenol formation, this process is strongly hindered on Pd nanoparticles by acrolein decomposition resulting in CO formation. We show that the extent of
acrolein decomposition can be tuned by varying the particle size and the reaction temperature. As a result, significant production of propenol is observed over 12 nm Pd nanoparticles at 250 K, while smaller (4 and 7 nm) nanoparticles did not produce propenol at any of the temperatures investigated. The possible origin of particle size dependence of propenol formation is discussed.
This work demonstrates that the selectivity in hydrogenation of acrolein is controlled by the relative rates of acrolein partial hydrogenation to oxopropyl surface species and of acrolein decomposition, which has significant implications for rational catalyst design
SAMSN1 is a tumor suppressor gene in multiple myeloma
Multiple myeloma (MM), a hematological malignancy characterized by the clonal growth of malignant plasma cells (PCs) in the bone marrow, is preceded by the benign asymptomatic condition, monoclonal gammopathy of undetermined significance (MGUS). Several genetic abnormalities have been identified as critical for the development of MM; however, a number of these abnormalities are also found in patients with MGUS, indicating that there are other, as yet unidentified, factors that contribute to the onset ofMMdisease. In this study, we identify a Samsn1 gene deletion in the 5TGM1/C57BL/KaLwRij murine model of myeloma. In addition, SAMSN1 expression is reduced in the malignant CD138+ PCs of patients with MM and this reduced expression correlates to total PC burden. We identify promoter methylation as a potential mechanismthrough which SAMSN1 expression is modulated in human myeloma cell lines.Notably, re-expression of Samsn1 in the 5TGM1murinePCline resulted in complete inhibition ofMMdisease development in vivo and decreased proliferation in stromal cell–PC co-cultures in vitro. This is the first study to identify deletion of a key gene in the C57BL/KaLwRij mice that also displays reduced gene expression in patients withMMand is therefore likely to play an integral role in MM disease development.Jacqueline E.
