Adaptive Power Load Balancing in Cellular Networks

    Get PDF
Load balancing in mobile cellular networks is an important mechanism that enables distribution of demand across neighboring cells, which is critical for better resource utilization and user satisfaction. Current approaches for load balancing are reactive, redistributing users only when the offered load approaches the cell capacity. This approach can lead to deteriorated network performance and user experience. In order to better cater to users, mobile networks need to be proactive and provision resources based on expected demand. To this end we propose a load balancing mechanism that allows for proactive network configuration based on prediction of traffic load. Our approach makes use of power control mechanisms to reconfigure the coverage of a mobile base station and thus control the amount of users and offered load at that base station. We apply our method on a real-world cellular network in Senegal and show that it enables better distribution of load in Orange Telecom’s network in Senegal

THERAPEUTIC EFFECT OF COMPLEX PHYSICAL FACTORS IN DISEASES OF THE EXTREMITIES DUE TO OVERSTRAIN AND MICROTRAUMATISM

The authors treated with drugs and complex physical therapy 65 patients with occupational diseases of the extremities. According to the physiotherapeutic procedures, the patients were divided into five groups: 1s t - treated with galvanic baths; 2 n d - with galvanic baths and diadynamic current; 3 r d - with galvanic baths and short-wave therapy; 4t h - with galvanic baths and paraffin, and 5t h - with galvanic baths and high-voltage, low-frequency current. Patient's improvement was evaluated according to the reduction of subjective complaints such as shivering and pain as well as to a series of objective parameters such as muscle strength, skin temperature, time for skin temperature restoration, and peripheral blood flow. The subjective complaints were better influenced than the objective indices. The combination of galvanic baths with short-wave therapy exerted the best effect in the patients with occupational diseases of the extremities

Hallmarks of mechanochemistry: From nanoparticles to technology

    Get PDF
The aim of this review article on recent developments of mechanochemistry (nowadays established as a part of chemistry) is to provide a comprehensive overview of advances achieved in the field of atomistic processes, phase transformations, simple and multicomponent nanosystems and peculiarities of mechanochemical reactions. Industrial aspects with successful penetration into fields like materials engineering, heterogeneous catalysis and extractive metallurgy are also reviewed. The hallmarks of mechanochemistry include influencing reactivity of solids by the presence of solid-state defects, interphases and relaxation phenomena, enabling processes to take place under non-equilibrium conditions, creating a well-crystallized core of nanoparticles with disordered near-surface shell regions and performing simple dry time-convenient one-step syntheses. Underlying these hallmarks are technological consequences like preparing new nanomaterials with the desired properties or producing these materials in a reproducible way with high yield and under simple and easy operating conditions. The last but not least hallmark is enabling work under environmentally friendly and essentially waste-free conditions (822 references).Slovak Grant Agency VEGA 2/0009/11, 2/0043/11Slovak Agency for Science and Development APVV VV-0189-10, VV-0528-11Russian Foundation for Basic Research 10-03-00942a, 12-03-00651aMinistry of Science and Higher education in Poland CUT/c-1/DS/KWC/2008-2012, PB1T09B02330, NN209145136, NN20914893

Preserving Charge and Oxidation State of Au(III) Ions in an Agent-Functionalized Nanocrystal Model System

Supporting functional molecules on crystal facets is an established technique in nanotechnology. To preserve the original activity of ionic metallorganic agents on a supporting template, conservation of the charge and oxidation state of, the active center is indispensable. We. present a model system of a metallorganic agent that, indeed, fulfills this design criterion on a technologically relevant metal support With potential Impact on Au(III)-porphyrin-functionalized nanoparticles for an improved anticancer-drug delivery. Employing scanning tunneling microscopy and -spectroscopy in combination with photoemission spectroscopy,we clarify at the single-molecule level the underlying mechanisms of this exceptional adsorption mode. It is based on the balance between a high-energy oxidation state and an electrostatic screening-response of the surface (image charge). Modeling with first principles methods reveals submolecular details of the metal-ligand bonding interaction and completes the study by providing an Illustrative electrostatic.. model relevant for ionic metalorganic agent molecules, in general

Five insights from the Global Burden of Disease Study 2019

    Get PDF
The Global Burden of Diseases, Injuries, and Risk Factors Study (GBD) 2019 provides a rules-based synthesis of the available evidence on levels and trends in health outcomes, a diverse set of risk factors, and health system responses. GBD 2019 covered 204 countries and territories, as well as first administrative level disaggregations for 22 countries, from 1990 to 2019. Because GBD is highly standardised and comprehensive, spanning both fatal and non-fatal outcomes, and uses a mutually exclusive and collectively exhaustive list of hierarchical disease and injury causes, the study provides a powerful basis for detailed and broad insights on global health trends and emerging challenges. GBD 2019 incorporates data from 281 586 sources and provides more than 3.5 billion estimates of health outcome and health system measures of interest for global, national, and subnational policy dialogue. All GBD estimates are publicly available and adhere to the Guidelines on Accurate and Transparent Health Estimate Reporting. From this vast amount of information, five key insights that are important for health, social, and economic development strategies have been distilled. These insights are subject to the many limitations outlined in each of the component GBD capstone papers.Peer reviewe
