Multiple Intelligences in the Mathematics Classroom: A Curriculum Project on Linear Equations and Inequalities in One Variable
This curriculum project explores the utilization of Howard Gardener’s Multiple Intelligences theory in the mathematics classroom. There are eight distinct multiple intelligences that can be found in heterogeneous classrooms of students and often students have a blend of these eight intelligences. This curriculum project discusses different methods for integrating certain multiple intelligences into the mathematics classroom. The multiple intelligences that have been included in this curriculum project are Verbal/Linguistic, Logical/Mathematical, Visual/Spatial, Kinesthetic, Interpersonal, and Intrapersonal. The Algebra unit this curriculum project focuses on is Linear Equations and Inequalities in One Variable. The curriculum provided includes a variety of ways to incorporate the multiple intelligences theory throughout each of the thirteen lessons within the unit
Nitrous Oxide as Pain Relief for Women in Labor
Labor and childbirth can be a very frightening and anxious time in a woman’s life. Pain is considered a normal, natural and expected part of childbirth and for that reason, it is vitally important to provide women access to different approaches to pain management. Healthcare professionals must be aware of all the options available to women for pain management because it is crucial that women feel they have a choice in what they use for their body. While every woman will experience pain differently, they should be able to have a choice of which measures they use to cope with the pain and demands of labor and they should understand the basic physiology behind why they are experiencing pain. “Pain is defined as ‘an unpleasant sensation caused by noxious stimulation of the sensory nerve endings’ or ‘as a state in which an individual experiences and reports the presence of severe discomfort or an uncomfortable sensation” (Lennon, 2018, p.637)
Designing the Artists’ Book: How Graphic Design Impacts the Photographic Portfolio
The purpose of this thesis is to explore how graphic design and the artists’ book format can enhance and add meaning to a photographic portfolio. Today, we face a disconnect between an audience and digital portfolios. Artists’ books provide a way for artists to choose their materials, layout, and design in order to showcase their work. It is the audience interaction with the book that bridges the disconnect and allows for a personal connection between the viewer and the art. Throughout this project, I explore how the layout of the artists’ book and the pairing of image and text impacts the message being communicated. The first portion consists of research of materials, formats, bookbinding, and printing. I determine which format will work the best for my photographic portfolio, and what materials will be available for the creation of the book. The second portion focuses on designing the format of the book using established graphic design methodologies and includes explanations of why certain decisions were made. Overall, it is established why the artists’ book format works and how it enhances the viewing experience of a photographic portfolio
Exploring Angles, Lines and Triangles Through Project-Based Learning
This project was created by a teacher for teachers, providing a hands-on learning module for a geometry classroom. The project-based learning module emphasizes collaboration and communication as part of the task. Topics include congruence and similarity as well as theorems involving lines, angles and triangles. Students will also apply geometric methods to solve design problems. Recommendations for how implement each phase of the project have been provided by the author. Additionally, scoring rubrics have been provided. The project-based learning module is aligned to the New York State Next Generation Standards for Mathematics, specifically geometry standards throughout secondary grade levels
Collegiate Level Student-Athletes Identity and Academic Success
The purpose of this synthesis is to review the literature on collegiate level student-athletes identity and academic success. The articles that were reviewed helped to answer two questions which were, what kind of identity do student-athletes typically associate with and what are the factors that drive them to that identity, and do student-athlete’s have better GPA’s and academic success during their seasons or in their off-seasons. Deliminating factors were used to limit research which yielded 10 articles. It was discovered that most student-athletes typically will adapt a student identity over time instead of an athletic identity because of the slim chances of going pro. It was also revealed that student-athletes have better success in their off-seasons than during their season
Como explica María Victoria Carrera, “[t]he growing visibility of these diverse lived experiences of sex/gender has shifted the focus from the individual to the social, so that the trans person’s distress at being born into the ‘wrong’ boy has more recently been replaced with having been born into the ‘wrong’ society” (210). Me interesa comprobar si es posible usar películas para contribuir a la creación de una Sociedad más justa que acepte a todas las personas sin que importe su identidad de género
Albert W. Brown interviewed by Kenneth O\u27Brien #1
Albert W. Brown was the President of the College from 1965 to 1981. Brown was the third President of the College. During his time as President the College experienced a great period of growth. Enrollment grew throughout his term from 3,000-12,000 students. The college also changed from a Teacher’s College to a SUNY Comprehensive Undergraduate and Graduate Institution. He pioneered and led such programs as the Delta College, Mature Adult College Program, Peace Corp., College Degree Program, 3-1-3 High School College Articulated Program, the Washington Semester Program and the Philosophical Year
Tarsia Puzzle: An Interactive Activity for the Middle School Mathematics Classroom
Tarsia Formulator is a software package that enables teachers to create and customize engaging mathematical jigsaw puzzles to fit into their instruction. From arithmetic to calculus content, students have engaged in learning mathematics using this instructional practice. The goal of the activity is to assemble the puzzle so that a particular shape will be formed. Teachers design the puzzle to support specific learning objectives and student’s problem solve to match questions and answers which appear on different cards. This Curriculum Project presents Tarsia Puzzles designed to support the instruction and learning of middle school mathematics
Solving Systems of Equations and Inequalities using Technology and Virtual Manipulatives
This curriculum project was developed to assist teachers to utilize virtual manipulatives and technology in the New York State Next Generation Algebra I curriculum, specifically systems of equations and systems of inequalities. Technology has become an integral part of students’ lives and research has shown that incorporating technology in the classroom can impact student learning. This curriculum project includes lessons from the Algebra I curriculum through a variety of technological applications
