Design of semi-interpenetrating networks based on poly(ethyl-2-cyanoacrylate) and oligo(ethylene glycol) diglycidyl ether

The synthesis of semi-interpenetrating networks (SIPN) based on linear poly(ethyl 2- cyanoacrylate) (PECA) and oligo(ethylene glycol) diglycidyl ether (OEGDG) based polymer networks was motivated by the hypothesis that the brittleness of polycyanoacrylates may be overcome by incorporating them into a polymer network architecture. A sequential synthetic route was applied, in which first PECA was prepared by anionic polymerization. Subsequently, OEGDG was crosslinked with different anhydrides and curing catalysts to form networks with hydrolyzable ester bonds and interpenetrating PECA. These SIPNs showed a low water uptake compared to other polyether based networks. Some of the obtained materials were transparent and exhibited a great flexibility, which was maintained also after 24 h of immersion in water and subsequent drying. Such networks could be components of future stimuli-sensitive material systems

Lenguaje y verdad: sobre la relación entre retórica y filosofía en Hans-Georg Gadamer

La filosofía práctica, la retórica y la hermenéutica constituyen en la obra de Gadamer una constelación central y al mismo tiempo problemática. Si la lingüisticidad (Sprachlichkeii) y la relación con el lenguaje (Sprachhezogenheit) de toda comprensión tienen para la hermenéutica la fuerza de acuñar una teoría, con ello se tematizan, por otra parte, los motivos que Gadamer encuentra para romper el estrecho concepto de hermenéutica como arte de la comprensión de textos. Sin embargo, su comprensión de la hermenéutica como filosofía práctica sólo se puede reconstruir mediante un eslabón intermedio: la rehabilitación de la retórica. La tesis de las siguientes reflexiones es que la rehabilitación de la retórica es la base para la comprensión gadameriana de la hermenéutica en tanto que filosofía práctica. Mi exposición reposa en la asunción de que la concepción de Gadamer de la hermenéutica como filosofía práctica se apoya sobre la corrección de una idea de la retórica cuyo sentido de productividad histórica (wirkungsgeschichtlich) se ha visto reducido, y en que el debate de la relación entre la ética y la hermenéutica nos confronta con un problema que sigue sin resolverse. La démocratie et la politique de la vie nue. Des réflexions philosophico-historiques sur le langage dans l’oeuvre de Giorgio Agamben

Haben sich die Lebensformen in den westlichen Demokratien zu reinen Überlebensformen transformiert – Formen bloßen Lebens, wie Giorgio Agamben es nennt? Gibt es keine Trennung mehr zwischen der Sphäre nackten Lebens und der Sphäre der Politik als einem von Lebensnotwendigkeiten nicht strukturierten Raum? Wenn ja, was ist dann der Sprache widerfahren, der wir laut Aristoteles ein Leben jenseits der nackten Existenz verdanken, während sie Agamben mit einem Gefängnis vergleicht? Um Antworten auf diese Fragen zu erhalten, ist zunächst (I.) in Erfahrung zu bringen, was kennzeichnend für die Sphäre nackten Lebens ist. Sodann ist (II.) Agambens Auffassung von Sprache zu klären, um zu verstehen, warum er ihr die Kraft zuschreibt, politische und nackte Existenz trennen zu können. Abschließend ist (III.) zu erörtern, in welcher Relation Agambens Zeitdiagnose von der Reduktion menschlicher Lebensformen auf Überlebensformen mit seinen geschichtsphilosophischen Sprachbetrachtungen steht.Have the forms of life in the western democracies transformed into mere forms of survival – forms of bare life, as formulated by Giorgio Agamben? Has the sphere of bare life already become truly inseparable from the sphere of politics as an arena not structured by the necessities of life? If this is so, what has then happened to language, which – according to Aristotle – we owe life to on the other side of bare existence, yet which Agamben compares with a dungeon? In order to answer the above questions, the author first (1) looks into the features of the sphere of bare life. He then (2) expounds Agamben’s understanding of language so as to be able to penetrate the reasons because of which he ascribes language the power which facilitates the separation of political and bare existence. Finally (3), the author examines the relation between Agamben’s diagnosis of the reduction of the human forms of life to forms of survival and his historical-philosophical reflections on language.Les formes de vie dans les démocraties occidentales ont-elles été transformées en formes pures de survivance – formes de vie pures, selon Giorgio Agamben? La sphère de la vie nue est-elle vraiment déjà inséparable de la sphère de la politique, domaine qui n’est pas structuré par les nécessités vitales? Si c’est le cas, qu’est-ce qui est arrivé au langage auquel, d’après Aristote, nous devons la vie au-delà de l’existence nue, alors qu’Agamben le compare avec la prison? Pour répondre à ces questions, il faut tout d’abord (I.) connaître les propriétés de la sphère de la vie nue. Ensuite (II.) il faut expliquer l’appréhension d’Agamben du langage afin de comprendre pourquoi il lui attribue le pouvoir grâce auquel il peut séparer l’existence politique de l’existence nue. A la fin, il faut examiner le rapport du diagnostic d’Agamben de la réduction des formes humaines de vie en formes de survivance avec ses réflexions philosophico-historiques

Hydrolytic Degradation Behavior of Poly(rac-lactide)-block-poly(propylene glycol)-block-poly(rac-lactide) Dimethacrylate Derived Networks Designed for Biomedical Applications

For polymer-based degradable implants, mechanical performance and degradation behavior need to be precisely controlled. Based on a rational design, this work comprehensively describes the properties of photo-crosslinked polymer networks prepared from poly(rac-lactide)-block-poly(propylene glycol)-block-poly(rac-lactide) dimethacrylate precursors during degradation. By varying the length of poly(rac-lactide) blocks connected to a central 4?kDa polyether block, microphase separated networks with adjustable crosslinking density, hydrophilicity/hydrophobicity ratio, thermal, and mechanical properties are obtained. The materials are characterized by a low water uptake, controlled mass loss, and slowly decreasing wet-state E moduli in the kPa range

Ist Bildung auf Ausbildung reduzierbar? Ist Bildung mit Erziehung gleichzusetzen? Was ist unter Bildung zu verstehen? Seit Fichte und Schleiermacher über Nietzsche und Jaspers bis hin zu Habermas sind diese Fragen im Kontext des Verhältnisses von Bildung und Universität immer wieder neu diskutiert worden. Eine Vergegenwärtigung der Geschichte dieser Diskussion ist insofern lehrreich, als sich zeigt, dass gegenwärtige Diskussionen um eine Bildungs- und Hochschulreform in wesentlichen Aspekten eine Aktualisierung von (politisch ungelösten) Problemen insbesondere aus den 1950er-Jahren ist, in denen mit immer noch nachdenkenswerten Überlegungen vor einer Unterordnung der Wissenschaftspolitik unter die Wirtschaftspolitik gewarnt wurde.Can education be reduced to training? Can education become equal to upbringing? What is meant by education? From Fichte to Schleiermacher, through Nietzsche and Jaspers, up to Habermas, these questions were discussed over and over again in the context of the relationship between education and universities. Reviving the history of this discussion is instructive in as much as it shows that contemporary discussions about the reform of education and higher education in very important aspects represent the revival of politically unresolved problems. Especially those from the 1950’s, which – through deliberations which were worth the attention – warned against subordinating scientific politics to economic politics.Peut-on réduire la formation ŕ l’enseignement? Peut-on assimiler la formation ŕ l’éducation? De Fichte et Schleiermacher ŕ Habermas, en passant par Nietzsche et Jaspers, ces questions ont été constamment sur le tapis dans le contexte de l’enseignement. Le rappel de l’histoire de ce débat est instructif dans la mesure oů les discussions actuelles sur la réforme de l’enseignement et des universités représentent essentiellement une actualisation des problčmes (politiquement) irrésolus, surtout ceux soulevés dans les années 1950, oů des avertissements méritant réflexion furent lancés contre la subordination de la politique scientifique ŕ la politique économique

Predicció de la taxa d’atur espanyola: un anàlisi regional

Per un costat, es fa ús dels mètodes deterministes per la taxa de desocupació nacional. Mitjançant els contrastos de Daniel i Kruskal-Wallis es detecta que la sèrie temporal presenta tendència però no component estacional. És per això que els mètodes emprats en la primera fase del exercici són: la TL (Tendència Lineal), les DMM (Dobles Mitjanes Mòbils) i l’AEH (Allisat Exponencial de Holt). Per l’altre costat, es generen prediccions a través de models ARIMA (Model Autoregressiu de Mitjana Mòbil) a nivell nacional i per a cada una de les disset CCAA (Comunitats Autònomes). En darrer lloc, s’avalua la capacitat predictiva dels mètodes i models utilitzats. La conclusió principal d’aquest estudi subratlla la importància de generar prediccions independents per a cada regió.(eng) The goal of this research project is to conduct a forecasting experiment for the Spanish unemployment rate at a regional level. We use a sampling size that starts at the first quarter of the year 2002 and ends at the last quarter of the year 2017. First, we apply a deterministic approach at the national level. We run Daniel and Kruskal-Wallis tests and find that the unemployment growth rate presents a significant trend component although the seasonal component is not significant. As a result, we use the Linear Trend, Double Moving Average and Holt Exponential Smoothing methods. Second, we generate forecasts by means of ARIMA models at the national and regional level. At the national exercise we use the Box-Jenkins Methodology with Gretl and compare it to the output generated with the auto-ARIMA function with R designed by Hyndman and Khandakar (2008). We find that the auto-ARIMA function provides better outcomes, for this reason we use it for model selection at the regional level. We obtain different optimal ARIMA models in each region. This finding suggests that unemployment forecasting should be implemented by means of region-specific models. Finally, we compute the out-of-sample forecast accuracy for the four quarters of the year 2017. We obtain the best results for Galicia and Valencian Community, as opposed to Aragon

Herramientas para la toma de decisiones en la planificación financiera de la jubilación

La desfavorable evolución de las variables demográficas y económicas supone una agravación de la sostenibilidad del sistema público de pensiones español, lo cual también dificulta poder mantener la suficiencia de las pensiones públicas para la jubilación. En consecuencia, los trabajadores se plantean invertir en instrumentos de ahorro privado para complementar la pensión pública y así garantizar la suficiencia de ingresos en el momento de la jubilación. El trabajo plantea herramientas alternativas para seleccionar el producto de ahorro para la jubilación más conveniente. Estas herramientas se basan en el uso del operador linguistic ordered weighted averaging (LOWA), el operador induced linguistic ordered weighted averaging (ILOWA), el operador linguistic ordered weighted averaging distance (LOWAD) y el operador linguistic induced ordered weighted averaging distance (LIOWAD). Al final del trabajo, se presenta un ejemplo ilustrativo de la aplicación de los operadores de agregación LOWA, ILOWA, LOWAD y LIOWAD en procesos de planificación financiera para la jubilación. Los resultados demuestran la utilidad de esta clase de operadores de agregación lingüísticos en la toma de decisiones para la jubilación

Attaching different kinds of proteinaceous nanospheres to a variety of fabrics using ultrasound radiation

The application of a rapid, non-destructive, cost-effective technique such as ultrasonic emulsification for the coating of different textiles was explored. The technical benefits for this research were the generation of multifunctional materials and their combinations through environmentally friendly processing technologies. We have shown for the first time that ultrasonic waves can be used to coat proteinaceous micro- and nanospheres (PM) of BSA (Bovine Serum Albumin) protein and casein on the surface of cotton and polyester (PE) fabrics. The creation and the anchoring of the microbubbles to the fabrics were performed by a one step reaction, and the process is usually stopped after 3 min. The PM of bovine serum albumin (BSA) bonded to cotton and polyester fabrics has shown stability for ~9 months. The PMs were shown to be attached more strongly to the polyester than to the cotton, and sustained stronger washing conditions on PE. The diameter of the BSA and the casein spheres on cotton was in the range of 0.8–1.0 µm, while on the PE it varied between 60 and 120 nm.This research, was carried out as part of the activities of the LIDWINE Consortium, Contract No NMP2-CT-2006-026741 LIDWINE is an IP Project of the 6th EC Progra
