    Megawati’s Journals

There are 4 aspects to compare and contrast 2 journals written by Megawati (2016a & 2016b). Firstly, the first journal is journal of Pedagogia whose title is “KESULITAN MAHASISWA DALAM MENCAPAI PEMBELAJARAN BAHASA INGGRIS SECARA EFEKTIF” written by Megawati (2016a). It uses Indonesian language and published on August, 2016. The first journal has different from the second journal. The second journal is JEES (Journal of English Educators Society) whose title is “Tertiary Level Exchange Students’ Perspectives Writing” written by Megawati (2016b). It uses English language and published on October, 2016. Secondly, in the first journal, it tells about the difficulty learning English which researched on students who were in PGSD major at Universitas Muhammadiyah Sidoarjo. It shows that the difficulty learning English on four skills with the most difficult sequence to the easiest as follow Speaking, Listening, Reading, Writing and there are active students, less active students, and passive students. However, it is very different from the second journal which can we look from the quality those are. In the second journal, it tells about the tertiary level exchange students who are from Thailand to study English major at Universitas Muhammadiyah Sidoarjo, Indonesia. It shows that the students are not very proficient in writing course. They still need guidance and more practice to write something which correct grammar and punctuations. The alternative to improve their ability in writing are they can take English course, collaboration or discussion with their friends from Thailand and Indonesia, etc. Thirdly, the pedagogia’s journal uses a participant observation method in which the researcher is directly involved in the activity. The data is qualitative which not numeric data. The JEES uses the questionnaire method and the data is numeric data or usually called quantitative data. Fourthly, the JEES or the second journal is more interesting than the first journal. That is because in the second journal showed specifically by the author and the researcher. The author tells the tertiary level exchange students’ perspective writing which students are from Thailand. The good things from this journal is the language, it uses English language which will make me wonted to with English text. In short, the first journal (Journal of Pedagogia) is different from the second journal (FEES). We can see from those aspects

A Novel Minimally Invasive Tumour Localization Device

    Get PDF
Lung cancer is one of the leading causes of death, by cancer. The usual treatment is surgical resection of tumours. However, patients who are weak or have poor pulmonary function are deemed unfit for surgery. For these patients, a minimally-invasive approach is desired. A major problem associated with minimally-invasive approaches is tumour localization in real time and accurate measurement of tool--tissue forces. This thesis describes the design, analysis, manufacturing and validation of a minimally-invasive instrument for tumour localization, named Palpatron. The instrument has an end effector that is able to support two previously designed jaws, one containing an ultrasound sensor and the other a tactile sensor. The jaws can move with two degrees of freedom to palpate tissue and rotate about the central axis of the instrument. The Palpatron has uncoupled jaw motion that allows for optimal alignment of sensors to improve data acquisition. The instrument can be easily assembled and disassembled allowing it to be cleaned and sterilized. The mechanism is articulated using push rods, each actuated by a motor. A semi-automatic control system was created for palpation. It is composed of a microcontroller that controls four motors via serial communication. In addition, the Palpatron has the ability to prevent tissue damage by measuring tool--tissue forces. Finite element analysis was used to guide material selection for designed components. Grade 5 titanium was selected for end effector links to provide a factor of safety of 1.2 against yielding under a 10 N point load at the tip of a jaw. The design was fabricated and validated by conducting experiments to test articulation and load carrying capacity. An 8-N force was applied to the instrument, which was successfully supported. The semi-automatic control system was used to perform basic maneuvering tasks to verify jaw motion capabilities. With positive testing results, the Palpatron forms the next step towards a comprehensive robotic-assisted palpation technology

Queering Political Economy in Neoliberal Ironbound Newark: Subjectivity and Spacemaking among Brazilian Queer Immigrant Men

    Get PDF
This paper complicates the dominant narrative of Newark’s Ironbound community as an exceptional and heteronormative neighborhood by analyzing the non-heteronormative subjectivities and spaces in them. During the period between 2004-2009, subjects were interviewed, in queer minoritarian spaces, to understand how Brazilian gays/ queers reified and contested neoliberal ideologies of nationalism, “good” ethnicity, individualism, and “appropriate” sexual mores. This ethnographic account employs textual and spatial-temporal analysis to generate an alternative narrative of gay/queer life and groupings in the Ironbound

The financing of corporate real estate acquisition, a South African study

Thesis is submitted in partial fulfilment for the degree of Master of Science in Building (Property Development and Management), to the Faculty of Engineering and the Built Environment, School of Architecture and Planning at the University of the Witwatersrand, Johannesburg, 2017The purpose of this study is to fill specific gaps in the existing body of knowledge of South African corporate real estate management by investigating the determinants influencing the lease versus buy decision; the methods and financing sources of corporate real estate acquisition; and the criteria used in deciding on the financing technique for corporate real estate acquisition. The research followed a similar methodology to that of Redman and Tanner (1991) in their study “The Financing of Corporate Real Estate: A Survey”. However, it specifically focused on the South African corporate real estate environment. The data collection instrument was an online survey and the survey produced quantitative descriptions of certain aspects of the population. The population for the research was corporate real estate decision makers of leading South African companies. The data captured was presented through the aid of tables, charts and graphs. The data was further analysed through cross tabulations and hypothesis testing using the Chi Squared test of independence to determine significance of results. South African firms use some form of leasing (mainly long term leasing) in acquiring their corporate real estate. However, ownership is also a common form of real estate acquisition through the use of mortgages secured by the acquired property, mortgage backed securities and sale of unsecured bonds. The decision criteria for acquisition includes both financial and non-financial determinants. Financial analysis is also an important factor in analysing the lease versus buy decision. This is mainly done by comparing the undiscounted cash flow of leasing versus buying. Where a discounting approach of evaluation is used, the most favoured discount rates include the weighted average cost of capital and rate of return on new investments. Mostly outscored professional services are used when making the lease versus buy decision. The benefit of this study was to understand the factors influencing the corporate real estate decision making process and to provide a corporate real estate decision makers with a decisional framework when determining the form or real estate tenure. Future studies should attempt to secure better response rate to allow for robustness of results and other methodologies of analysis.XL201

Latino/a Youth Subcultures in Elizabeth, New Jersey: Memory, Spacemaking, and Citizenship, 1980s-1990s.

“Latino/a Youth Subcultures in Elizabeth, New Jersey: Memory, Spacemaking, and Citizenship, 1980s-1990s” is a case study that documents youth experiences of coming of age in the house, hip hop, club kid, goth, and skate subcultures in and near Elizabeth, a post-industrial New Jersey city often perceived (along with its residents) to be in decline and undesirable. This narrative reveals that Elizabeth was an important, vibrant subcultural center of progressive youth of color. Youth involvement in subcultures often resonated in subtle ways with support for social movements for racial equality and sexual and gender diversity in the 1980s-1990s. These subcultures represented more than the commodifiable fashions and immature and rebellious phase often associated with them. Ultimately, youth subcultures challenged right wing movements and their assimilationist, heteronormative, and multicultural values, offered youth spaces for their self-determination, and represented yourths’ active cultural citizenship. I conduct ethnographic interviews of 25 second-generation Latinos/as about their experiences with youth spacemaking within or outside dominant publics, such as in a minority Latino and African American gay house scene, the New York City nightlife club kid scene, an annual goth party at a cemetery, an afterhours goth hangout in a diner, and an unofficial skate park. This project contributes to subculture studies by centering Latino/a perspectives in subcultures that are usually reductively coded either white (goth, club-kid and skate) or black (house and hip hop). For Latino/a Studies, this project encourages scholars to employ a subculture lens instead of merely traditional static markers of race, ethnicity, and notions of success and failure to understand Latino/a youth subjectivity and claims to belonging and citizenship.PhDAmerican CultureUniversity of Michigan, Horace H. Full text link
The Effect of Sorting, Sodium hypochloride (NaClO), and Fungicide Treatment on Peanut in Elimination the Aspergillus flavus Contamination. The humid tropical condition of Indonesia, the post harvest treatment, and the storage practices favour rapid growth and wide spread Aspergillus infestation on peanut. The objectives of this research was to find the best technique in controlling the Aspergillus infection on peanut. To achieve those objectives, complete randomised design in factorial with three factors was applied. The factors were grading and colour sorting (A1 = grading and colour sorting; A2 = without grading and colour sorting), NaClO blanching (B1 = without blanching; B2 = 1.25% NaClO blanching; B3=2.5% NaClO blanching), and Benlate T-20 WP treatment (C1 = 2,5 g/L; C2 = 3 g/L; C3 = 3,5 g/L). The result showed that the best combination treatment was A2B2C3 with the minimum amount of spore on peanut seed. With those combination treatment we concluded that the grading and colour sorting, the 1.25% NaClO blanching, and the application of 3,5 g/L Benlate T-20 WP could reduced the Aspergillus contamination up to 80% compare with A1B1C3 treatment
