Dos PCNs- Le à sala de aula: Uma experiência de transposição didática

The objective of this article is to describe the theoretical content of the official document called PCNs - LE and interpret the possibility of its application in the classrom through the analysis of the objectivies ad contents of a didatic sequence produced to teach EFL. Another issue of concern os the process of didactic transpodition, i.e. PCNs-LE from theory into practice. This study is the result of a post-graduation course taken at PUC-SP with one of its authors. Finally, some conclusions are presented, pointing out the importance of using the document mentioned as an instrument of reflection both in the process of teacher education and teacher development

Gramática/análise linguística no ensino de inglês (língua estrangeira) por meio de sequência didática: uma análise parcial

RESUMO Este artigo discute as possibilidades de articulação entre o ensino de gramática/análise linguística e de expressão escrita (compreensão e produção) durante o processo de implementação de uma Sequência Didática por meio dos gêneros de textos comics, comic strips, political cartoon no contexto de ensino-aprendizagem de Língua Inglesa do Centro de Línguas Estrangeiras Modernas do Estado do Paraná - CELEM. Nossas análises nos permitem concluir que o procedimento Sequência Didática viabiliza o trabalho com a gramática, possibilitando que esta seja trabalhada em sala de aula na perspectiva da análise linguística (cf.: Geraldi 1991, 1997), o que torna esse estudo muito mais significativo e real para o aluno

Uma cartografia da divulgação científica em Ciências da Linguagem no Brasil e em Portugal

In this article, we aim to map channels of media of multimodal productions for Scientific Divulgation in Language Sciences in Brazil and Portugal, from 2018 to 2022. We further aim to understand the motivations and usual procedure of linguists who dedicate themselves to this activity. In order to do so, we used the snowball technique for the first objective and the semistructured interview for the second one. The mapping shows that the divulgation/popularization of science is growing in Brazil, particularly multimodal digital media such as podcasts, YouTube Videos and blogs, and mainly, non-institutional programs that can promote more freedom for thematic choices, namely multimodal productions with direct mention to every day facts or context. In Portugal, the activity is emerging, predominantly in the written mode, in the form of opinion pages in national newspapers, and in some institutional multimodal initiatives by a research center. According to our interviewees, the usual procedure in the dissemination of science develops knowledge and skills related to communication not only outside academia, but also inside (among peers and to students), which could be considered another reason for more linguists to be involved in such activities, deemed relevant for a full-fledged citizenship.  Neste artigo, pretendemos  mapear  mídias de produções multimodais de Divulgação Científica (DC) nas Ciências da Linguagem, no Brasil e em Portugal, de 2018 a 2022. Procuramos ainda compreender as motivações e modos de ação de linguistas que se dedicam a esta atividade. Para tal, usamos a técnica snowball para o primeiro objetivo, e entrevista semiestruturada para o segundo. O mapeamento mostra que  a  DC está em crescimento no  Brasil, particularmente nas mídias digitais multimodais, tais como podcasts, vídeos do YouTube e blogues,  em sua maioria, programas não institucionais que podem promover mais liberdade na escolha temática, nomeadamente em produções multimodais  com menção direta a fatos do cotidiano ou do contexto. Em Portugal, a atividade encontra-se em emergência, com predominância do modo escrito, como artigo de opinião em jornal nacional, e algumas iniciativas institucionais de caráter multimodal por parte de um centro de investigação. Segundo os nossos entrevistados, os modos de ação da DC desenvolvem saberes e competências relacionados à comunicação não só fora da academia, como também dentro (para pares e para alunos), o que seria mais uma razão pela qual mais linguistas deveriam empreender este tipo de ação de DC, considerada importante em prol da (in)formação cidadã

Characterisation of microbial attack on archaeological bone

As part of an EU funded project to investigate the factors influencing bone preservation in the archaeological record, more than 250 bones from 41 archaeological sites in five countries spanning four climatic regions were studied for diagenetic alteration. Sites were selected to cover a range of environmental conditions and archaeological contexts. Microscopic and physical (mercury intrusion porosimetry) analyses of these bones revealed that the majority (68%) had suffered microbial attack. Furthermore, significant differences were found between animal and human bone in both the state of preservation and the type of microbial attack present. These differences in preservation might result from differences in early taphonomy of the bones. © 2003 Elsevier Science Ltd. All rights reserved
