    Calidad de vida y resiliencia en adultos mayores inscritos en el Registro Único de Víctimas de Ayacucho

    La presente investigación tuvo como objetivo determinar la relación entre la calidad de vida y resiliencia en adultos mayores inscritos en el Registro Único de Víctimas de Ayacucho. Fue de tipo básica de alcance correlacional, con diseño no experimental transversal, la muestra estuvo conformada por 270 adultos mayores registrados en el RUV, el muestreo utilizado fue no probabilístico de criterio. Los instrumentos de recolección de datos fueron el Índice de Calidad de Vida de Mezzich y Col. y la Escala de Resiliencia de Wagnild y Young. Los resultados evidenciaron una correlación significativa directa alta (r=.666, p<.05) entre la calidad de vida y resiliencia, en cuanto a las dimensiones se obtuvo una correlación directa alta entre la variable calidad de vida y las dimensiones de perseverancia r=.61, confianza en sí mismo r=.60 y sentirse bien consigo mismo r=.60. Se evidenció que los adultos mayores presentan un nivel moderado de calidad de vida y un nivel alto en resiliencia. Concluyendo que, a mayor calidad de vida percibida, mayor resiliencia

    Genomic Relationships, Novel Loci, and Pleiotropic Mechanisms across Eight Psychiatric Disorders

    Genetic influences on psychiatric disorders transcend diagnostic boundaries, suggesting substantial pleiotropy of contributing loci. However, the nature and mechanisms of these pleiotropic effects remain unclear. We performed analyses of 232,964 cases and 494,162 controls from genome-wide studies of anorexia nervosa, attention-deficit/hyper-activity disorder, autism spectrum disorder, bipolar disorder, major depression, obsessive-compulsive disorder, schizophrenia, and Tourette syndrome. Genetic correlation analyses revealed a meaningful structure within the eight disorders, identifying three groups of inter-related disorders. Meta-analysis across these eight disorders detected 109 loci associated with at least two psychiatric disorders, including 23 loci with pleiotropic effects on four or more disorders and 11 loci with antagonistic effects on multiple disorders. The pleiotropic loci are located within genes that show heightened expression in the brain throughout the lifespan, beginning prenatally in the second trimester, and play prominent roles in neurodevelopmental processes. These findings have important implications for psychiatric nosology, drug development, and risk prediction.Peer reviewe

    Finishing the euchromatic sequence of the human genome

    The sequence of the human genome encodes the genetic instructions for human physiology, as well as rich information about human evolution. In 2001, the International Human Genome Sequencing Consortium reported a draft sequence of the euchromatic portion of the human genome. Since then, the international collaboration has worked to convert this draft into a genome sequence with high accuracy and nearly complete coverage. Here, we report the result of this finishing process. The current genome sequence (Build 35) contains 2.85 billion nucleotides interrupted by only 341 gaps. It covers ∼99% of the euchromatic genome and is accurate to an error rate of ∼1 event per 100,000 bases. Many of the remaining euchromatic gaps are associated with segmental duplications and will require focused work with new methods. The near-complete sequence, the first for a vertebrate, greatly improves the precision of biological analyses of the human genome including studies of gene number, birth and death. Notably, the human enome seems to encode only 20,000-25,000 protein-coding genes. The genome sequence reported here should serve as a firm foundation for biomedical research in the decades ahead

    Are neuromodulation interventions associated with changes in the gut microbiota? A systematic review

    The microbiota-gut-brain axis (MGBA) refers to the bidirectional communication between the brain and the gut microbiota and recent studies have linked the MGBA to health and disease. Research has so far investigated this axis mainly from microbiota to brain but less is known about the other direction. One approach to examine the MGBA from brain to microbiota is through understanding if and how neuromodulation might impact microbiota. Neuromodulation encompasses a wide range of stimulation techniques and is used to treat neurological, psychiatric and metabolic disorders, like Parkinson's Disease, depression and obesity. Here, we performed a systematic review to investigate whether neuromodulation is associated with subsequent changes in the gut microbiota. Searches in PsycINFO and MEDLINE were performed up to March 2022. Included studies needed to be clinical or preclinical studies comparing the effects of deep brain stimulation, electroconvulsive therapy, repetitive transcranial magnetic stimulation, transcranial direct current stimulation or vagal nerve stimulation on the gut microbiota before and after treatment or between active and control groups. Seven studies were identified. Neuromodulation was associated with changes in relative bacterial abundances, but not with (changes in) α-diversity or β-diversity. Summarizing, currently reported findings suggest that neuromodulation interventions are associated with moderate changes in the gut microbiome. However, findings remain inconclusive due to the limited number and varying quality of included studies, as well as the large heterogeneity between studies. More research is required to more conclusively establish whether, and if so, via which mechanism(s) of action neuromodulation interventions might influence the gut microbiota

    Electronic materials with nanoscale curved geometries

    As the dimensions of a material shrink from an extended bulk solid to a nanoscale structure, size and quantum confinement effects become dominant, altering the properties of the material. Materials with nanoscale curved geometries, such as rolled-up nanomembranes and zigzag-shaped nanowires, have recently been found to exhibit a number of intriguing electronic and magnetic properties due to shape-driven modifications of charge motion or confinement effects. Local strain generated by curvature can also lead to changes in material properties due to electromechanical coupling. Here we review the development of electronic materials with nanoscale curved geometries. We examine the origin of shape-, confinement- and strain-induced effects and explore how to exploit these in electronic, spintronic and superconducting devices. We also consider the methods required to synthesize and characterize curvilinear nanostructures, and highlight key areas for the future development of curved electronics
