When comparing groups of pervitin and heroin users we found that the negative influence upon the behavioral stereotypes are more markedly expressed in heroin users. These women also often elect a more risky mode of drug application associated with a higher occurrence of hepatitis C in this group. Insufficient nutrition manifesting as low increase in weight during the pregnancy is also more significant in heroin users. Placental microscopic changes are also more frequent. The vasoconstrictive effect of pervitin more frequently results in placenta abruption. Progress and duration of the Neonatal Abstinence Syndrome is more severe in infants of mothers addicted to heroin. Infants of pervitin users are influenced rather by direct effect of the drug. A methadon replacement program can stabilize a woman during pregnancy with respect to economic and social terms. However, the Neonatal Abstinence Syndrome in this case is mostly more prolonged and more severe than after the exposure to heroin.Available from STL Prague, CZ / NTK - National Technical LibrarySIGLECZCzech Republi
